Pre-Med Indie Music Thread?

I just saw "The 88" last night at the Troubador in LA. F'ing loved it! If you haven't checked them out yet, you should. They kinda have that 60's retro pop thing about them, but the singer has a "billie holiday-like" vibrato. Great energy on state too. Have any of you gone to a show recently?
 
since the thread's been revived and all: i saw editors a week ago with stellastarr. stellastarr were okay but the bassist is way hotter than the pictures make her look. editors were really good. i also saw wolf parade on tuesday, that was also a pretty good show. now i'm showless for awhile.

Cool. I'm going to that show next week. And THEN two weeks later... Sigur Ros. Small small venue. Owwwwwwwww!!! So excited. 😀

Hmmm. Everything was cute except her face. I like her hands, her body, her style. Face wasn't that special-- rather average, I thought. And her bass was completely suffocating in the mix. It's all I could hear during their set. But still, they were good.

Editors. Shazam!!! They were awesome. Just another Joy Division? Maybe so, but who doesn't want to hear more of that goodness?! 👍
 
Dang, I just looked at the updated Coachella line-up and now I really want to go. (I had decided not to-- was trying to save $$.)

For one thing, Rob Dickinson was added. Haven't seen him in years, and I likey. And what's this with "Madonna"? Is that "Madonna" as in "Madonna"? As in, the original Material Girl will actually be there, or just a cardboard cutout? I'm only perplexed because she's listed in the roster after Tool and Massive Attack (and in smaller letters too), suggesting she's a lesser known/less popular artist. 😕

Jebus, you going?

fyi, metric's vocalist is haine, feist is feist herself and they are bss' female vocalists

Yeah, it is the "actual" Madonna, but she's playing in the dance tent, which probably means that she'll be performing when Tool is. Kind of a bummer if you want to see both. I'm gonna skip out on tool about half way through and tear over to see the last half of her set. I've never really cared much for her stuff, but I figure I should at least check it out. How much do her tickets go for now? Hundreds of dollars??? Coachella is a steal if you really think about it 🙂
 
i'll be at coachella. and i'm not paying 85 bucks for tix. i've gone the past 2 years and scalped tickets for 20 bucks a day every time. don't waste your money

wow. you must have really high standards 😀 -- good-looking hands are already hard to find, but harder if you wanna pair it with a good body, style, or even face.

how often do they boot poeple? and do they just look at your ratio?

i registered a few days ago and have been beefing up my library. i added 15 gigs the past few days but have only uploaded like 1/2. i want to upload, no one is downloading the stuff i have.

does anyone have any suggestions to raise my ratio?

btw, jedi mind tricks and atmosphere are awesome indie hiphop artists. the new flaming lips rocks. boards of canada and squarepusher are fantastic electronic musicians.

are you "clever"? when you click on your username and it lists what you're sharing, it should say "yes" in the clever column. i assume we're talking about oink.

The quickest ways to boost your ratio are to fill requests by uploading something as FLAC and to start to download the popular stuff as soon as you can - even if you don't want it. I already had the yeah yeah yeahs newest album, but I made damn sure I downloaded it and I'd uploaded like 2 gigs of it a couple of weeks later.
Oh, and they give you 7 days to bring that ratio up to ~1.0 (or make the smiley face not angry/sad). You'd best get crackalackin, nukka.

I do have really high standards, and I'm picky about certain body parts. Must have attractive hands, feet, voice (speaking, singing, AND laughing), eyebrows, mouth, hair... I'm not attracted to many.

But I specifically mentioned stellabassgirl's hands because during the show I was standing 12" away from them. 😉

Okay, so why does the Coachella website suck this year? I can't find any detailed line-up information, including which stage and time each act is on. Last year you could download the little line-up pdf brochure ahead of time.

Do any of you have that info?

I don't want to go if all of my favorite acts are on at the same time.

WTF? Bloc Party vs. stellastarr* vs. Paul Oakenfold? Spread the love around, Coachella! How am I to choose?

And what's with Madonna playing early? Yes, she's 50 years old and a little past her prime, yes this is a trendy indie festival where most of the acts are like 20 years old, but we're talking about Ma-****-ing-donna! On at 8:00?? And opposing Editors? Crikey.

the whole trip doesn't quite fit in my budget right now 🙁 but almost all my friends are going, so i can live vicariously through them. *sigh*

that is pretty excellent. i recently learned that my cousin, who was the former music director at UGA and runs some record label in DC, went to school with danger mouse and they are tight. i was in awe.
 
wilco, radiohead, and the shins are among my favorite bands.

also, i am totally going to start the UIC thread for next year and name it "come on feel the illinoise!"

indie is not really a genre of music. anything under an independent label can be indie, which includes industrial
