The doctor is doing you a service by sending an RX for "Prenatal vitamin", if you call to clarify you are wasting everyone time. We fill it with the one with the weird picture of the pregnant belly on the stock bottle. If they want DHA we use Macnatal DHA

QFT, what a waste of time calling the doc.
If the doctor cared, they would have specified the brand. There is probably an OB somewhere in country who would care, but the OB in my area absolutely do not care. Apparently they have been harassed by some pharmacist in the area for brand, because they now write their RX's as Prenatal vitamin, OK to substitute any prenatal vitamin.
What does the plus mean in certain brands that have a separate plus version side by side on the shelf?

Er, it might depend on the brand. Usually it means DHA is added, but I think some brands might use it to mean extra folic acid?
the base film is to help prevent the stomach upset from the base (it does a minimal job of that), while still keeping it base....unless one is treating a GI infection, enteric coating is the best choice.
That's how it should be. Imagine a day when you get a script for Ace-Inhibitor, may dispense whichever Ace-inhibitor profits you the most.

So EC dissolves and gets absorbed in the small intestine, but the film coated still gets absorbed in the stomach, just helps a little?
this x1000 - calling the doc will make you one of "those pharmacist" who went to school for 6-8 years yet can't use their brain to make a judgement. If a hospital pharmacist called a doctor because he got an order for MVI and asked them what brand, I would punch them right in the face
I usually just fix these little orders (like... patient takes Nephrocaps, MD/DO ordered generic MVI; patient takes cholecalciferol at home, doc ordered ergo) and tell the doc later. I usually get a big ass thank you.

If you get an order to continue a home dose of vitamin C, D, E, lactaid, etc and the person is here for a broken leg- just make up a frickin dose

That being said, I have a MTHFR gene defect that effects my ability to produce folic acid, so my prenatal vitamins contain the activated form. So dont autosub me Kthanks.
well, I hope people like you are smart enough to bring your own specialty vitamins if you have these rare disorders!
