I am planning on applying during my senior, rather than junior year. This would mean I'd have a year off in between undergrad & med school. However, I have taken private loans out....is there a way I can defer payment on these loans during the year I have off?

Any advice or information regarding what happens to individuals in this situation would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

I'm taking 2 online CC courses to make me a half-time student. I then petitioned my lender for in-school deferment and it was granted. Voila, no loan repayment.

You could take up an Americorps position where you can get loans deferred. A lot of these spots are part time and also would look great on an app.

in my graduate financial aid info session i asked the same question and the lender representative told me I need to contact the individual lenders and tell them I am applying for med school, they should give you a deferment.
