good god, are you guys still ranting on issue? I've analyzed data from two experiments and been to the bank and back since you guys starting going off on bushbaby.

There's a much more interesting debate going, "whats up with URMs". There's even more bickering to be had before the days out.

I thought it was just me. Mine you it was in the back of my mind that I would get caught (worse case scenario) then I have to retake the class. But graduation was early May, summer I starts late May, I didn't get the letter/info until mid-June meaning I have no choice but to take summer II and the summer II bio classes (they only offer 3 advance bio class in the summer)would be almost filled up. SO i was calling the prof to try to squeeze into his class or do independent study with him(then I would meet him once a week, which means I can still work full-time).

Wow! I go read the URM thread for a little while and there's all these new posts here! Incredible! So much controversy on SDN today...

Bushbaby-- if the class you needed was in the same department as your major, then you probably had the advanced work to cover it and spending the extra time/money would really have been a waste. Congrats for getting it worked out in your favor-- as you know, that doesn't always happen.

And I promise I'm not trying to crucify or stone you-- I went through a similar ordeal trying to prove that I met the requirements for graduation (I had taken the class, but there was a clerical error and they didn't give me credit for it at first). I had to do some serious work to prove that I had fulfilled the requirements (hunted down the retired professor, got him to write a letter and submit papers i had written for the class...blah blah blah), so I was a bit suprised to hear that someone else had just tried to slide through when they knew they were missing the credits. But hey, it worked for you.

ok, I felt as though I have to chime in:

:p DIE BUSHBABY, YOU INSOLENT SCUM!!!! BURN IN HELL FOR YOUR TRANSGRESSIONS!!!! :p

wait, what are we upset at you about again?
once again, regardless of our disagreements lets not take ourselves TOO seriously on this site

Well, at least I thought my earlier post was funny. I was trying to make at least one person who is taking SDN and its issues unrelated to one's PERSONAL admissions experience, far too seriously. But alas, it didn't work. Some people really need to lighten up.

Here's the thing. If you had a problem with that requirement You should have worked within the system and used it to your benefit.

I was in my last semester and had taken up to Calc II when I found out I could not graduate without taking a PRE-Algebra course. I was furious because it would upset my entire schedule and delay graduation. So, I petitioned to the dean of the Math Dept (god awful lady that has something stuck up her a$$.) I read up on the rules of the university and wrote a 3 page letter explaining how absurd it would be to make me take a pre-algebra class when I had passed calc II. I also included my transcript and a whole spreadsheet of the work I had done to prove I was competent enough not to sit through that class. This petition was presented before a committee and the committee agreed with me and reversed the decision.

So, in effect, I probably did the same thing as you... in a far removed way. The difference is that I used the system for my benefit and you cheated your way out of the system.

By the way, as Sweet Tea said, we are not self-righteous people passing judgment on a person. We can judge the situation if we want to. That is our choice. Also, we all know what the "real world" is like. Just because it happens doesn't make it ethically right. That is the issue here.

I also had a similar situation and worked my way through the channels.

I was done with my degree (in Bio education) and actually working (in a medical lab waiting for the school year to begin...I had finished school in the Fall) when I found out that my university had left off a course from my degree plan that was required to teach by the state. The school had not noticed the mistake for 4 years (I was the first student on that degree plan). I,like BushBaby, had also used up my scholarship. BTW: this error was found about 4 months after I had finished my degree.

I went to the Dean and explained the situation. He went to the state and acknowledged that it was the university's mistake. The state then allowed me (and one other person in the same situation) to teach without the class (we both had exceeded the minimum requirements in every other respect).

As a side note: I did take the class later.

My point? I completely understand BushBaby's plight of long ago, but I just don't agree with the way it was resolved. I think that has been the general consensus.

If you think what Bush did was bad wait till you hear this:

My sister who attends a Boston medical school has a couple distant friends who during the summer between their first and second years decided they wanted to get published. Well, the two of them did some sexual favors for their PIs and guess what....they got published. And they didn't even show up at work half the time. Apparently they showed up whenever they wanted (like once a week).
And my sister who slaved 6 days a week did not get published.

Welcome to the real world. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> •••••Sadly I can one up you....

My ex girlfriend of two years f*cked a TA while I was with her in order to raise her grade. I broke up with her because of it.

I recently found out that she lied and claimed that she lives with her grandparents in order to claim that she was a 'disadvantaged' applicant. As a result her parents didn't show up on her fafsa. They are multi-millionaires (worth around 20 mil total I think).

I was told by a mutual friend that she got a full ride to some dental school because of her situation.

Needless to say, her and I haven't spoken in a VERY long time. I have found that the farther away she is from me, the more I like her!

About those sexual favors... what a piece fo crap! Your imagination is really reach and seems that you need to relieve yourself. Since you putting this info on a pre-med website, I would assume that you are desperate. Please post these "anecdotes" somewhere in appropriate place. Look people (the one's that see what Bushbaby did as wrong), this girl is not ready to have a real converstaion about this. She's much too busy being defensive and irritated. Just let it go. All we can hope is that one day she will look back on this and do an honest evaluation of her actions. We all mature with time and experience, let's just hope she's not left out of this process... even if she seems to be far behind now.

We've all done things that we didn't come to regret until much later in life.
