Hello,

I will be applying for the summer/fall 2017 cycle this upcoming summer. The PTCAS application officially opens on July 1, 2016. Am I able to start filling out info on the application like classes taken, observation hours, etc., or will it delete everything and make me start again on July 1?

You'll have to redo it if you start before 7/1.

Yeah, don't worry about completing PTCAS until July when it officially opens for the next cycle.
HOWEVER, you should keep an eye out on the PTCAS facebook or twitter for what next year's essay topic will be (they release it well before the portal opens - maybe April?). That way you'll be ready to e-submit the app within a couple weeks after PTCAS opens up. Good luck

I actually was just looking at that and they say that the essay is the same as last year.

perfect! you can start on it now. I would make sure I have it done before PTCAS opens. Also, reach out to your references before PTCAS opens, too. Give them a month or so to finish the letter and have it ready by July. Kudos to you for thinking ahead and being proactive.

That's the plan! I've heard lots of advice on getting everything done ASAP. You think it increases your chances of getting accepted?

It absolutely increases your chances of getting an interview. So ultimately, yes.

Hi there, I saw you found out that the essay for this application is the same as it was for last year. Is that the "APTA's vision...How will you embody" quote? Also, do you mean it's for the application cycle for 2017? Thanks so much 🙂

Yes that's the question. And yes I believe so. I'll be applying this summer to start school in 2017.

The essay is not the same this year according to the PTCAS FB page.

"The new PTCAS essay question for 2016-17 (upcoming) cycle will be 'What is professionalism in the context of being a student in a doctor of physical therapist degree program?' The new application will open by 5:00 pm ET on June 30. Do not start your application or send materials to PTCAS until then."

What happens if you already sent in your transcripts, observation hours and recommendation letters for next application cycle? Would I have to do that all again?

They will not carry over into the next cycle, and you will have to send them again.
