I was asking the question to a physician that's an attending not a premed that hasn't even attended a single day of medical school.

I don't see your point. Had you said "I've never heard of an unemployed attending" then I wouldn't have mentioned carib. Just because you tell an attending that you've never heard of an "unemployed physician" doesn't mean you are referring specifically to "unemployed attendings". Besides, my original post about carib was just a joke.

This new MedPR seems a lot like the old MedPR...

on that note, I do like the picture. Good touch, good touch.

Baby steps. I do regress occasionally.

Yes. A rescinded acceptance is no different than a failed cycle. At least on paper anyways.

Ok well that works out in his favor then.

Yup, and DO schools don't hate on reapplicants as bad as MD schools do. This is why I said in an earlier post that the rescinded acceptance is the least scary part about that letter. In case you hadn't read in this thread (or maybe it was only in the original thread), ACOM (or whoever wrote this) was considering notifying the authorities of internet threats or something.

Whoa.....didnt hear that in the other thread at all...

I still am not of the opinion that MD schools hate on reapplicants. A few of them do, but I have heard from several that actually taking a year to work on your app looks very good to them. Very high acceptance rates if you actually do the things they tell you to work on. The only real hating I have seen are at places that place application caps. i.e. "if you have failed to be accepted twice dont bother applying agian", but IMO that is different.

Oh I see. SDN taught me that reapplicants have a harder time. No data to support it though.

I have nothing other than anecdote. However I suspect SDN is talking about people who give the same app to schools two years in a row, in which case.... duh

I think there is some stat that shows that reapplicants have a lower acceptance rate but that's not surprising. It's just like how people who retake step 1 have a lower pass rate than first time takers. You're starting with a weaker poor so you'll get worse results (if you've failed once you're more likely to fail again). It's selection bias.

That hasn't been said. But threads about specific people may be suspect. I would avoid making threads or posts about actual people without their consent. Just like if I went around spilling news about halflistic that he didn't want shared, I suspect he would be upset and potentially feel harassed.

Didn't realize how much entertainment is dispersed throughout the different sdn fora 👍

That is actually fair. The people I was talking about are those with average stats who were passed over for people with something else the school was looking for. If your stats are rather low you will likely face added difficulty fixing your app and getting accepted.

AACOMAS only asks about prior matriculation right?

Yup as far as I know it just asks about prior matriculation. Though I've heard people express worry about declining an acceptance in the past and now applying again, so I'm not positive what that's about. If its just matriculation, life goes on and lesson learned.

To the person this thread is dedicated to, I wish you the best of luck and godspeed.

You can, when you're in direct conversation with someone. It becomes somewhat muddied if you're replying to a thread and you're telling everyone, "Bacchus is a PCOM student" when I'm not involved in the thread.

SDN has precedence for acting on call out threads. The bad ones are obvious, the less obvious ones are (hopefully) reported and discussed amongst the mod staff. Don't defame anyone or reveal any information they don't want revealed and you'll be OK.

I've also heard this rumor that once you decline an acceptance it's all over for you as a re-applicant. How true that is, I don't know. I would suspect it is not, unless we're speaking about an acceptance at the same institution where you declined before.

In any case, I was wondering if the person in this case would have to answer "yes" to this, "Were you ever the recipient of any action for unacceptable academic performance, or were you ever the recipient of any action for conduct violations by any college or school?" My impression is "no," but it's vague.

If you never took a class at a place you don't have to report anything. All this went down prior to any enrollment. It didn't happen as far as other schools or aacomas is concerned

No, some guy got into plenty of DO schools after he declined an acceptance at a school he simply wasn't happy at.

this is one of many SDN myths. it's not true.

SpecterGT260:

Ok good...

I guess its especially egregious when you call someone out who has made their situation public on three different forums and social networks. 😉

Sincerely,

HalfListic

P.S. I guess I'll start each thread with "To whom it may concern:" now...

:meanie:

Thanks...that clears it up.

I guess the right to change one's mind is respected in these parts . I don't give half a dry turd what makes it more or less egregious  I am more interested what will or will not (may/may not) result in locks and/or infractions.

What bracchus said was 99% what I said 😕

Oh, no...you and Bacchus said the same thing...both were helpful. (I was just acknowledging that she answered me too...)

I was joking that it seems funny that SDN finds it egregious to bring up someones name and pin it to a matter that he has plastered all over the forum and Facebook.

Come on Specter...I know we cool 😉

haha...I guess I should change mine to Gwen Stefani then. I wonder if Id get more respect as a girl?

Maybe... but that might be because you are always slightly startled whenever you post.

😀 I wonder if this is the same with everyone on here, it explains so much...

We want updates!

Ya... I wouldn't count on it. Also, this is a private thing that exploded all over SDN. I think we should probably let it go. Not saying there's anything wrong with wanting to know but everytime I think about what he must be going through I feel my stomach lurch. No matter what happened, I just can't feel good about tabloiding on this.

maybe im a conspiracy theorist but i doubt the school read every one of his posts..i htink someone on sdn tipped them off...

Its Real. Sadly. ACOM is a set up to be a great institution and has set its standards very high. The OP made a serious error in judgement and for that he has payed the price. There are many lessons to be learned here and I feel there is no need to keep this thread going. Ive seen the letter, Its authentic, and this chapter in the OP's life should be allowed to end so he can move on.

Respectfully.

Anyone else annoyed how people that are "confirming" this have under 10 post... I'm still waiting to see if this is true or not. I didn't read the original post since it was Thanksgiving and I wasn't anywhere near my computer, but I can't imagine a school going through the trouble of rescinding an acceptance based on an online post... Unless it was really, really, really, offensive and bad.

He is actually barred from contacting the institution. However, I hope they allow him some sort of closure beyond the email just to give him some peace. I dont think Cole is a bad person, however, has shown a pattern of being extremely outspoken and abrasive with his comments. That coupled with his praise of ACOM and public acceptance to ACOM put the school and himself in a very precarious situation. The school made a decision and that's that. I think MedPr's epiphany says it all. Disagreements happen. We are all looking to become Doctors / professionals so why not start acting like professionals here in a public forum such as SDN.

There was mention that a real letter was going to be sent out as well. Is this where you are getting this? Being barred from contacting admissions was one of the things that most people felt seemed the most suspicious.

Did he get confirmation via phonecall this morning?

Can we just let this go?

I doubt he is going to come on here and spill the full details.

Put yourselves in his shoes for one second. Prank or not this must have been a nightmare for him.

noob signs up specifically to update on this (first post) and has insider info on the situation....

Think about it 😉
