@ court. Were classmates. I have no motives beyond trying to end the drama that this thread has become at Cole's expense (self inflicted) and ACOM's expense. Its unfortunate and its also undeniable. The only good thing I can see come out of this is that there actually wasnt a person maliciously trying to ruin someones holiday by sending a fake letter. Other than that it's an extremely unfortunate situation.

Can we just let this go?

I doubt he is going to come on here and spill the full details.

Put yourselves in his shoes for one second. Prank or not this must have been a nightmare for him.

Thank you. I could not agree more.

Well that sucks. I was hoping it was fake. If you read this man, there is always next cycle. Maybe retake the mcat and kick it til next year. Good luck.

Very unfortunate. Keep at it man, there's always next cycle. Good luck with your future endeavours.

Also, I think this thread has run its course. Since the op has a gold badge, I think it should be deleted altogether.

I'll buy it when someone with a relative reputation on here posts information. I could be his classmate, too.

This attitude is whats perpetuating this thread. What will you gain by getting "verification"?
Nothing is the answer. The situation will still be as unfortunate as it was last week.

Lets just move on for the sake of all parties involved.

Public's "right to know"... even if it really is none of their business.

🙄

This isn't just going to go away. My interests in the situation are none of your concern.

Hold on, let's all get some things straight here. The person in question brought his business to this PUBLIC forum. The thread is still archived, I am also curious as to the outcome. Not because I care about it personally, but interested in how Medical Schools go about rescinding applications. So I am too waiting for verification from a more reputable source. Don't like it? No one's forcing you to read this.

Curious realization though, you can't see a persons account without being logged in. All you see is a members account number.
So... The deans of med schools and faculty have accounts on this site. Which gets me thinking about the possibility of implementing a policy/ code of standards upon creating an account? I mean a lot of Internet website have policies that protect them from DMCA power, why not something similar to SDN?

Which actually brings up another question, what are the conditions that we agree to upon creating an account?

I still think a member ratted on him and supplied photos/posts to back up their story. I dont think an adcom would secretly stalk through this guys stuff without some kind of tip off.

Well, the member in question still has an account, so those whose continued existence depend on getting a "verified" response can PM him and if he wants you know know he will respond.

And you can just contact the schools you are interested in and ask what their policy is on rescinding acceptances based on comments made online.🙄

He brought it to the Public Forum and then deleted the OP, after realizing his error in doing so. Someone else started this thread, not him.

Also , from every indication the events leading up to this encompass more than just his activities on SDN.

This incident was real and I'm a little sad to say was not a prank. I emailed the school standing by the victim of this sad situation. The school emailed back saying they have already provided a final decision but will forward my email to the dean. I'm not going to give any names but this is an extremely sad moment for all sdn users. Now that I think about it this is a brutal way of the school to handle a situation they passed their judgement prior to contacting him or hearing from others.

"The whole thing was deleted by the mods, including its counterpart in pre-md. Was it an epic practical joke by a friend like some thought? Why was it not only locked, but deleted as well?

Edit: Please refrain from calling this person out by name until the whole thing gets sussed out."

The OP has deleted his original post. Honor his wishes and move on he is obviously trying to.You will never get more than the poster above me has given because the OP or the school are the only parties that could ever provide such info. Again, I ask, please let this thread end for the sake of all parties involved.

Well, whether or not the decision is final, we should all do our part and email the school.

I'm not sure why you call this person a victim. The school seems to have very high standards and they expect their students to act accordingly. That's their perogative and it is genuinely good for Medicine.

I dont feel shin was using the term victim meaning that they were not responsible for theirown actions that lead to the issue. I feel she meant he was dealing with the unfortunate circumstances of his own actions.

I agree with your comments about the school.

Because the same could happen to you easily if someone's vindictive enough. Furthermore your pretentious attitude is nauseating, you're not a saint, you've likely stated much worse than what the OP has ( I.e making a very weak ethnic joke off of Khan S., i.e someone who was born to be a foil and is on popular t.v networks every night).

I.e why you should learn to analyze content and context as opposed to seeing the world as black and white. Which I might add, will make you a bad physician 😉.

The same could not happen if you are respectful even when you disagree with someone strongly.

Oh please, if someone recorded some of the stuff me and my friends say to each other when we're comedic I'd never be able to get into a low tier Carib institute. It's all about context, X said those things from what I understand jokingly and as a means of a foil, not to be offensive or hurtful to anyone.

If I were dean, I'd be more worried about the people on here who claim that abortion is sinful and should be illegal than X. Because chances are they will put their morality above the good of their patients as opposed to X.

I think it should be closely looked into the fact that an SDNer reported him.

I was pretty harsh to the guy for his comments and he did say some stupid stuff. I actually thought it was a prank at first but now that I know it's real my attitude has changed. No matter what he said the school should not have emailed him a day before thanks giving without even talking to him about the incident. I know the school doesn't owe him anything but still they could have addressed the issue by giving him a chance to atleast explain.

That made me laugh / smile. Agreed, but SDN is different. You dont have the luxury of context here. But I completely understand your point.

Honestly, I'm not one for legal action, but if this happened to me I'd shove more lawsuits on ACOM for psychological damage than they'd know what to do. Sorry, but you could have waited another week to send this out. It's in complete bad taste.

I disagree. The application fee that is paid and professional courtesy owes him a hearing and an opportunity to explain. But I see the point of the schools zero tolerance policy.

I guess we all need to learn a few things...

1. You are an adult in a professional environment and you need to act accordingly
2. Do not give hints to who you really are and try to keep your anonymity
3. Don't count your chickens before they hatch
4. Clam-up once your accepted and maybe even before

I hope the OTs OP learns from this and has success in the future.

I'm not big on lawsuits but I agree this was in bad taste. Even if it was to go to court I'd lose because there's nothing in writing that prohibits the school from doing what they did. At this point I think his best bet is to reapply broadly next year, maybe retake MCAT/classes and surely change his attitude in social networks and public settings.

I think it should be closely looked into the fact that an SDNer reported him.

You could do that. However, it sounds like he was reported due to facebook dealings more than SDN. Someone mentioned the ACOM fb group was brought up by staff at interviews, so they were aware of it and there were likely non SDNers on it in addition to SDN users (cant remember if this was mentioned in this thread or the old thread). It could have also just been ACOM signing onto the FB group that represents them and not liking what they see. We have a fb group for my class, and for some reason it has more people in it than I have classmates . I wouldnt be surprised if a few are staff.

Even if SDN did decide to investigate it, and even if ACOM does cooperate (which I doubt they want an online community digging into their affairs), the biggest penalty would be banned from SDN. Sure, some would find it nice to know all the juicy details here, but I don't see any serious repercussions coming here. It would be different if he had been framed or something like that, but it sounds like ACOM looked into it themselves.

A better option for the party involved is to make a new account and start fresh and apply again next year and pretend this never happened.

I post everything on the internet assuming I have no anonymity. That way worst case scenario you have nothing to hide/be ashamed of. Learned my lesson early in the MySpace days, what you post online will come back n bite you.

Lets put this post to bed.

This is my attitude on it as well.

I also agree with deleting this thread. If any of you have ever gone through a trauma before, you know how horrible it can be to be reminded of it. I'm sure he just wants to move on from this, and frankly, I think many of us do too.

If this was so traumatic for him, he could, i dunno, NOT read the thread. Judging by his lack of response, he probably already has stopped reading it. There is no need to censor public and non-libelous (since apparently it's true) information that has been placed on a public forum. This thread is important in the greater picture, and reminds others of the dangers of being irresponsible over the internet....it IS possible to face consequences, apparently.

Either way, whether or not a medical school is willing to rescind an acceptance over this sort of situation is pretty important in the grand scheme of things to other future applicants that seek to learn from the mistakes of others.

I don't know if this thread (which has mostly been speculation about this particular case) is that important to the bigger picture issue of responsibility online.

Plus we were all waiting for monday to hear if it was for realsies and so far that has been confirmed.

We can always create a new thread where that topic in particular is focused upon, where this case is not referred to so directly and give this kid time to regroup or something.

Good Night Sweet Prince?

That really sucks that this turned out to be real. I was posting with the anticipation that this was a hoax/troll job. And now that it's not, it sucks to hear of someone's dreams being shattered over some words. I can't even imagine what that would feel like. Goodbye brother...

First of all, I have not stated worse than the OP- not maliciously and certainly not in any place in which my professionalism was key. Secondly, I have made mistakes..everyone does. But I own up to them, you don't do that by calling yourself a victim.

Today is monday....

And we know from two people, that what is supposed to have happened actually did happen, unfortunately. I don't see any reason why anyone would come on here and lie about this.

Short of the member in question or the school itself coming here to say it happened (which is unlikely) this is probably the only way we're going to hear anything, people coming on to say "yes it is true". This is not True Hollywood Story. We do not have any right to know any more than has already been released.

If we want to talk about internet ettiquette, professionalism, how not to be criminally stupid online and stuff then lets start a new thread and hash it out there. We all could learn something from a thread like that. i know i would.

Oh? Really? You can't think of anything you've said on internet sites ( any, including of Ill repute) where you've said things that put your professionalism into question? This site is a non-professional setting, hell even the Ching-Chong-ling Wong girl didn't get expelled from UCLA. You think ACOM is better?

I haven't even been able to study at all today just thinking about this situation and I'm already 2 lectures behind. How does someone even explain this to their family especially the parents? jeez :scared:

No I can't. Anything I've written on the internet I'd be willing to defend as to the integrity. Sure, we all say things out of jest- but this person said it on a social group that encompassed people who's identities were not anonymous and represented the school.

We can't have it both ways. SDN is either a serious forum where we come to get solid reliable advice about how to become health care professionals, or it is a place where we come to goof off with no sense of responsibility... I think the goofing off section is the Lounge. Given that Adcoms and others in positions of authority look through this place, it behooves us to behave, even if it is online.

Then you hold no opinions of your own.
