Pulse Smart pen

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I use mine in undergrad. Mostly for Organic Chem and Genetics. I would have to say it has been invaluable and is just really, really cool. I bought the Pro pack with the 4GB pen and accessories. 4GB may be overkill for the two classes I've used it for, but I imagine in DS you might need it. Not too much extra money to get twice the pen, plus some extras.

The first time I used mine, I uploaded my orgo notes and sent them out to my friends. The very next day, they all had pulse pens of their own. We all use them now, and everyone has been thrilled with them. Hope that helps!

I record all of my big lecture classes with it in dental school. If you use it, it can be pretty handy. I've gotten very lazy with it tho, and pretty much only ever listen to the lectures again if there's something that I really don't get on the lecture slides. All in all I think it is a great thing to have in case you're in a jam.

Probably not the most efficient way to utilize your time when you have 10 classes and lab assignments to keep up on.

How would it be inefficient? If you're going to take notes anyway, you might as well do it with a pen that can later reference back to the audio. If anything, it's far more efficient than traditional note-taking. You don't have to upload the notes to your computer, you can just tap the notebook with the pen and replay the audio at any time.

I agree. Unless you can synch this to powerpoint slides it is probably more work than it is worth in d-school. Probably pretty helpful in undergrad courses where the pace is slower and the courseload is less demanding.

I can assure you that I have NO time to rewatch or relisten to lectures in class. That is why it is so crucial to pay attention while you are in class, so you don't have to listen later. The idea for the pen is great, but I don't think that in dental school you will be able to realize the benefits because there is SO much.
If you go to class from 8-5, with at least 5 hours of lecture, you'd spend the entire rest of the day relistening to the lectures instead of actually studying the material and putting it in your head the way you want it to be.

I think there is a major lack of understanding about his this pen works, though. The whole point is that you can touch the specific place in your notes to replay a specific bit of audio, 2-3 seconds or 2-3 minutes, just whatever you need to answer a question you have quickly, and efficiently --- without having to pour through hours of audio, or try to find answers in a book, etc. It's such an amazing way to get quick and easy clarification, especially during studying before tests. It's really priceless.
