I'm currently waiting on a first author publication (we just resubmitted after implementing suggested revisions). I'm going to go ahead and submit my secondaries early as I planned rather than wait for this to be accepted so I was planning on sending this as an update letter to all the schools that accept them.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any insight as to when schools actually look at these letters? For example if a school has already reviewed an app and decided not to interview the candidate will they be alerted there has been an update and give it a second look? I'm assuming this varies school to school but I'm just wondering what the general practice is.

Thanks!

Once you are in the reject pile, it's unlikely that information about a recent publication will get you a new review. A pub will not make up for mediocre stats and otherwise sparse activities.
