I spoke with admissions and was told they strongly prefer biology majors and students who have done well in upper-level biology courses. If you were accepted, does that hold true for you?

It seems like a fairly limiting rule to follow if someone has an excellent GPA and DAT otherwise... Especially since almost every other school prides themselves on having a holistic admissions process.

A&M is my top choose school due to having an amazing support system (husband's family) in the area - which is huge since I have two kids. I want to apply next year but my schedule (school/work/kids/etc) will not allow me to take upper level bio before I apply. I just want to figure out if it's worth it or necessary to delay a year in order to take a few of these courses.

Thoughts?

I did well in all of my biology courses and was a biology major. Most of my classmates were biology majors too. However, we do have people that were other majors. Business, English, public health ect. I think it would be a good idea to take some upper level biology courses especially if you haven't taken any recently. Plus it will help get you ready for D1. You could try to apply without them but if you're really looking for an A&M acceptance it's probably best to follow the Adcoms advice.

Does anatomy and physiology count as upper level bio? Or do you think they mean cell bio, genetics, etc?
