I say if you want to take it then take it. 
I took a 1 credit one and loved it. Was in the lab at least 5 hours a week. It was awesome! Kind of sucks I can't really put it as research but it was great experience for me.

Why couldn't it be used as research?
I didn't use mine because it was for credit. Some probably can but I just didn't because it's in my degree plan. I am hoping to do some volunteer research in fall though not for credit.
