2011 destroyer, bio number 53.

The nucleolus is the site of ribosome assembly.-true

well i know rRNA is made in the nucleolus but i thought the rRNA subunits (30 and 50) that are made in the nucleolus are not considered a ribosome until they bind and sandwich mRNA . I just want to make sure i'm not caught with a technicality on the test. (just looked over the 2009 paid-sample ada test and jeeze)

You're correct, ribosomal sub unit assembly occurs in the nucleolus, while ribosome assembly occurs in the cytoplasm from these subunits, though they assemble without necessarily being involved with mRNA, source Campbell's 8th:

These subunits then exit the nucleus through the nuclear pores to the cytoplasm, where a large and a small subunit can assemble into a ribosome.
