So, you finished your interview and you got your first acceptance. You need to place a deposit to secure a spot (anyone know whats the general price range for deposits?). If you decide to go to another school, do you get your deposit money back in full?

For Osteopathic schools you can NOT get a refund on your deposit, for allopathic schools you can.

Deposits for DO schools range from $500-2000.

Aw, that sucks. Doesn't that defeat the meaning of a "deposit" ?

Do you know the amount of time osteopathic schools (like NYCOM or PCOM) gives until it's too late to send a deposit post acceptance?

AZCOM and CCOM both give you $100 back (of your $1000 deposit) if you withdraw more than 30 days before the start of the term.

It's usually two weeks, although it can vary depending on the school and the point in the application cycle (less time towards the end of the cycle). It sucks if your interviews are really spread out. Mostly its to discourage students from using DO schools as a back up for the allo cycle.

But usually you have until december 14 or 15 to turn it in.

Hmmm, I did all my interviews in the Spring and two weeks was pretty uniform then, but maybe they give you more time in the Fall.

You are correct. I think it is staggered. If you are accepted before Nov 15, you have until December 14 or 15th, if you are accepted after Nov 15 you have a month or something... If you accepted after June, I think it is immediate.

Why are you postponing?

Why are you postponing?

because its my first and only interview so far and i really want to keep my options open (w/o paying hefty deposit fees). pretty much, this first interview isn't exactly my top choice, though it's up there. so would it be bad to postpone an interview thats comin up in 2 weeks?

I would strongly advise against it. For one, you may not get another one (not saying it will be). Two, you may go there and find out it is the best school in the world. Three, when would you postpone it? If you postpone it after December, your chances go down.

For PCOM there is a deposit of $150 or something a certain amount of time after acceptance, then, according to the website there is a $2000 deposit due on Apr 15 I believe.
