I'm writing an essay about the need for working with patients while conducting research - patients give you problems to solve, and observing patients' progress gives us insight into disease. I also think the unique position physicians hold, paired with the skills of a scientist, provides an incredible opportunity for developing treatments and understanding the mechanisms underlying disease.
I've been told that Judah Folkman said that he would have never made the advancements he did without working with patients. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find evidence of said quote. Do you all know of one? Barring that, is there another figure in science that I'd be able to use as a model for my thoughts?
