We have a breast surgery center of excellence and want to include a plastics guy. He is taking his boards this year. If he doesn't pass on this (his first) attempt, what are the ramifications in terms of his practice? Anything? Does he remain board-eligible? If so, for how long? What is the pass rate for first time takers?

In the past the board pass rate has been around 80% but last year it was closer to 95%. Not sure what it will be this year

I think you get three attempts to pass? Similar to general surgery. I can't imagine having to do that board case collection nightmare more than once, though....

He has 8 years from graduation to pass the board, both written and oral. He’s board eligible after passing the written board, and board certified after passing the oral board. No ramifications on his practice for not passing the board on the first attempt as he’s still board eligible.
