Welcome to Part 6! Everyone did a bang up job by hitting 10k in less than 12 days--11 days 19 hours and 18 minutes to be exact. A new record! 😀

For those not familiar with what we do here, Molly has been kind enough to put together a nice description.

Not sure what the Random thread is all about? Well, here's the answer to all your questions.

It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

I have no idea. Doesn't make any sense to me. I would have considered radiology if they didn't have an intern year. Though, all radiology residents do quite a bit of interventional stuff anymore. Interventional radiology is taking over EVERYTHING.

Hey beary...did you always know that you wanted to go into Path?

It just seems like there's so much til I can finally do something that I want. I.e. high school was all gen ed, 90% of college was gen ed, seems like the first 2 years of med school is basic science. Even after med school I wouldn't be able do what I want because most fields of medicine require a year of IM (at least what I'm interested in).

bah... i should stay out of this thread... y'all talking about interviews and secondaries.

it'll make my lunch take a detour

Is a year of IM really that bad? Just curious.

No - I figured it out in grad school. I really didn't have any idea what path was - thought it was all autopsies and stuff. I was going to go into rad onc until I was doing microscopy in grad school and really liked it. Once I found out what pathologists actually do, there was no doubt in my mind. It is VERY cool to be the diagnostician - the one who really makes the call as to what is going on.

I know - that totally sucks. 🙁

That is a nice thing about finally being a resident, as much as it sucks sometimes. I am finally getting to do what I wanted. Though I guess I was doing what I wanted in grad school too, for the most part.

What type of doc is Dr. House?

Ooh nevermind looked it up...ID specialist

If given the choice of not having to go to high school and straight to college, I'd go to college, etc, up to skipping IM for real residency.

I just want to have a job that I like. I've spent 16+ years in school now and I don't feel productive or anything. It just feels like another step that has to be completed to get to where I want.

IMHO, yes. I wouldn't do it. If you like IM, then it wouldn't be that bad obviously.

Also - for lots of residencies, you just have to do an intern year, it doesn't necessarily have to be IM. Some folks do surgical or pediatrics intern years. There are also these things called "transitional years" which are a mixture of IM, surgery, peds, and a few other various things like EM and critical care.

But I wouldn't do an intern year. I would quit medicine if I had to do one, seriously.

I just saw this after I posted. Seems like we're on the same page. 😳 Well, you're a few chapters ahead of me because I haven't even got my mcat scores yet. lol

what do you think about pathology-related basic science research? i'm interested in studying the molecular basis of diseases...is this emphasized in path programs? for example i came across this www.yalepath.org their graduate research looks interesting.

that's true... we can!

laura's coming back!!!

Honestly the only people that I remember from GH are the Scorpio's, the older Quartermaine's, and this couple.....Jack Wagner and his wife (they're obviously no longer there)......the young casts....I have no clue who the heck they are

yea... i wonder myself who some of these people are

rick springfield came back to reprise hisrole... and he's got a son who's also a surgeon. the scorpios are back... but you hardly see mac anymore... and where is his accent?!!?1

oh no way mac lost his aussie accent? is it the old mac? at first glance, sometimes i get confused with robin and the other girl (damn forgot her name....she's also brunette from dancing with the stars)

Don't forget to mention the side-effects.

I always find it funny when the people in the commercials talk really fast about the side-effects

I like the one where the girls are talking about birth control pills and their risks on a rooftop party. "It doesn't protect against HIV."

Gotta love the viagra commercials......if your erection last for more than 4 hours, call your doctor  :meanie:

LOL, you remember that dumb commercial of a bunch of STDs running rampant in some girl's brain?

Syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes...

You could get pregnant!!!

I wanna wait...

Ha, some of those herpes pill commercials almost make the disease look fun and attractive.

That would be the last commercial I would want to be in.......i don't care how much of a struggling actor I am!

Well I am not feeling all that great today. More just tired. Over the weekend I found some papers and stuck them in my PI's mailbox. Stuff that is applicable to a new cell line we are going to be working with. I just got a positive email in response to that 😀 😍 She thinks I'd be a good researcher. Yeah, I'm a PRO at pubmed searches. Doesn't make me a good researcher.

oh that family with the crazy looking rich old lady?

yup... the last male heir has a son that he's trying to hide from his grandmother, but the nanny is her spy!

and i heard something about benda coming back and sonny leaving

Yeah jlw. They post alot now during the day. Everyone needs ot make up their minds. What's for lunch/dinner?
lunch as stated above. and some grapes.

dinner is up in the air. I have class/lab from 5:30-8:45 tonight, and I can't get parking if I get there later than 5:10. 🙁

so it's either grab a snack and then eat something late...... or... well that's really my only option, seeing as how I'm eating lunch at 2:45.

Oprah's season premier today! I may be the only one that gets excited over Oprah on this thread or perhaps the whole SDN :meanie:. I want to go to her show and get some free stuff (i.e. a new car)

How'd the orgo exam go jlw?
fairly, well, thanks! for the amount of time we spent on nomenclature, you'd think it would be worth more than 25/150 points on the test...

you'd be wrong. lots of stuff on dipoles and electronegativity. and I think I rocked my Newman Structures!

I heard somewhere that sonny really has the same emotional problem in real life that he portrays on the show.
