how's your studying going guys? are you freaking out? burned out?

this is our stress relief thread....or our group anxiety thread, whatever..... 😀

for those of you that have no idea what the mcat random threads are about, check out molly's explanation:

MollyMalone said:
It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

I've been looking at random trends, and these are just random guesses I'm throwing out here... I think Michigan is #2 in the Anderson poll...

Michigan will get .96 for the computers I think... USC will get .94, Florida will probably get no more than .84, Notre Dame .88

Now it all depends on the Harris Poll which I expect to be very close and we'll see then by how many more votes USC has over a 3 or 4 Michigan...

probably right around 25-30 ? That's about .01 points

Average +.02-.01-.01 .... they're tied 😱

this is gonna be so friggin close 😱
I think it'll be less than .01 seperating them which means they're essentially tied... Florida should be 4th but about .06 points behind USC/Michigan... with Notre Dame just a little past that...

Notre Dame could leap frog Florida next week if they beat USC... you guys better hope for an Arkansas win big so you can get some brownie points from the voters when you beat 'em...

AP Poll, but doesn't count towards BCS

1. Ohio State (65) 12-0 1,625
2. Michigan 11-1 1,502
3. USC 9-1 1,493
4. Florida 10-1 1,451
5. Arkansas 10-1 1,365
6. Notre Dame 10-1 1,307
7. West Virginia 9-1 1,144
8. Louisville 9-1 1,078
9. LSU 9-2 1,075
10. Wisconsin 11-1 1,049

I'm rooting for ND because they have no chance at the championship.

It's basically going to come down to the computers again, which I think is wrong. They're always off. I.e. Rutgers was #2 last week, but got blown out by an unranked team and the computers #3 OSU goes to championship game? Riiight. That's why there should be no computers. The people who made the equations for the computers have nothing to do with football, actually.

USC loses to an unranked team and have 3 close wins to unranked teams and get a very nice computer rank. UF loses to a team that is currently #13 and beat more currently ranked teams than USC yet we're like number 6 in computers. 🙄

Alright... my high-tech prediction analysis tool called my sick obsession predicts:

BCS
1. OSU (1 Coach's, 1 Harris, 1 Computers)=1.000 BCS Avg Pts
2. Michigan (3, 3, 2) = .925
3. USC (2,2,3) = .92
4. Florida (4,4,5) = .855
5. Notre Dame (6,5,4) = .82
6. Arkansas (5,6,7) = .77
Louisville is #6 in the computers

You can't just wait til like 8PM for the BCS rankings?

BCS rankings will be given on FOX on the AT&T postgame show after the 1PM game. So put on FOX.

There should really be a playoff system. If UF and USC wins out, I think a case could be made for why each Mich, UF, and USC should go. I.e. Mich shouldn't go because they had a chance already, USC shouldn't go because they lost to an unranked team, UF shouldn't go because they weren't dominating. Arguments for would be that Mich only lost to #1 team, USC won Pac10 and played more ranked teams than Mich, UF won SEC and lost to a high ranked team and played more ranked teams than Mich.

I don't really enjoy talking about who should go and who shouldn't. Especially when my team doesn't have at a least a single shot at it (Michigan had one yesterday). 😉

Edit:

ESPNU (you vote for it) rankings:

1. Ohio State 12-0
2. Michigan 11-1
3. Florida 10-1
4. USC 9-1
5. Arkansas 10-1
6. Notre Dame 10-1
7. West Virginia 9-1
8. Wisconsin 11-1
9. Louisville 9-1
10. LSU 9-2

I felt like doing some math 😳

It was fun 😀

Reading up about these polls, the biggest problem that the SEC teams have with the computer polls is that their rankings in the Coaches poll were artificially inflated by their pre-season expectations... Virtually none of these teams had a solid win outside of their conference, they just beat each other up left and right, to keep their poll rank inflated... now the computer polls have no other way of comparing these groups of teams outside of their conferences, because what is their baseline ?

The whole conference seems to be riding on Tennessee's win over Cal, which means it'll look even worse after this weekend. I hope that made sense, and I'm not saying it's completely fair, but it is very UNBIASED, which a lot of the smaller schools also wanted...

The SEC plays on an island, and get beat down when they leave their island... And I think it's kind of BS that all these SEC teams are ranked in the top 25 when they have done nothing but beat EACHOTHER...

It seems as arbitrary as giving 5-6 teams from the Big East top 25 spots at the beginning of the season... they beat no one, but each other really, but you can bet your ass that they'd all still be in the national champ picture if they got the benefit of the doubt like the SEC does...

It's time to stop hiding, and coming up north, and west to play some of these other teams, besides the Florida and Louisiana alphabet soup 👍

Will the sun ever come back 🙁

I totally hear ya CC. It is REALLY getting to me. I haven't seen the sun in weeks.

Just to remind ourselves what that glowing yellow orb looks like:
lOU%20SUNNY%20DAY.JPG

Just got back from the PSU/MSU game. What a crappy game. We don't deserve to play in a new years day bowl and I have a feeling that whoever we play is going to house us. At least tailgating was sweet😀

PSU will move in to the Top 25 in many computer polls after this win... which will give a bonus to the three Top 10 big ten teams...

Could the Big 10 get three BCS bids? Or is there a rule against that?

Random factoid of the day I heard on the radio the other day...The last time we had 2 consecutive days of sunshine was our Thanksgiving back on the weekend of Oct 7th. Grrr!

Well, there's no reason for top SEC teams to play many non-conference ranked opponents. Here are the top 10 schools with players in the NFL. There's a reason why our schools are ranked.

1. Florida State 42
2. FLORIDA 37
TENNESSEE 37
4. GEORGIA 35
Ohio State 35
6. Michigan 34
7. Miami (Fla.) 33
8. AUBURN 31
9. LSU 30
Notre Dame 30

5 of the top 10 schools in college football having players in the NFL are from the SEC. We played the other 4 of those SEC teams. Look at FSU, they have the most. FSU played in the FedEx Orange Bowl last year vs a good PSU team and barely lost. FSU is in our schedule. Is it our fault they sucked so much this year? UCF was also in our schedule. They went to the Conference USA championsihp game and a bowl game in Hawaii. Is it our fault they sucked so much this year compared to last? Southern Miss is the C-USA East leader right now so they're not a terrible non-conference opponent.

There's no reason for us to play ranked non-conference teams because we have so many *deserving* ranked SEC teams. NOT inflated. People were sack riding Fresno State this year--LSU destroyed them by 32. USC squeaked by Washington State by 6 points--Auburn destroyed them by 24. Cal actually held up with USC--Tennessee destroyed them and led 35-3 in the 4th (they put in clean up crew after that). This weekend: South Carolina plays a ranked Clemson. Georgia plays a ranked Georgia Tech. Florida plays Florida State (that is usually ranked). None of our non-conference schedule was our fault except Western Carolina. The stupid rule of 12 game seasons made everyone add a garbage team.

Michigan non-conf:

Ball State
Notre Dame
Vandy
Central Michigan

Ball State was crap similar to our UCF
Central Mich a MAC divisional leader like Southern Miss in C-USA

So you have two teams, Vandy and Notre Dame, to compare to our FSU and Western Carolina. I'll give you the benefit for our crappy Western Carolina. FSU is usually a top school and not our fault for their lack of freshman performance. Your team needed Notre Dame in the schedule to make up for weak Iowa and PSU teams compared to last year. Vandy is at the likes of FSU imo so it's not as bad as you're making this situation imo.

As far as pre-season ranking inflation. What about ND? What about Wisconsin? Notre Dame only has a win over one currently ranked team, Georgia Tech (in a crappy ACC). Wisconsin has ZERO wins over a currently ranked team and they're somehow a top 10. Plus, the majority of their schedule is against losing record teams.

PSU will move in to the Top 25 in many computer polls after this win... which will give a bonus to the three Top 10 big ten teams...

i guess there is a rule

You won't get 3 BCS bids. Two will go to ND and Boise State. 8 remaining for 6 BCS teams. So two extra. Big Ten extra and probably SEC extra.

Penn State will not be BCS ranked this week. They're not ranked in the Coaches poll (rank is 31 if you go by "others receiving votes"). Plus, no chance to even get in the top 15.

I don't know of a rule against it but I don't see Wisconsin getting a nod.

My predictions:
NC: OSU and Mich
Sugar: Arkansas and ND
Fiesta: Nebraska and Boise State
Orange: Louisville and Georgia Tech
Rose: USC and Florida

If you look at the formulas of some of the COMPUTER polls they give extra points for Top 25 teams (Top 25 teams in their own polls) and Penn St. is right on the outskirts of many of the top 25's

Not that I look at Wisconsin as a great team, it just would've been interesting... I'm not so sure about Arkansas making the BCS cut... but we'll see (they'll lose one or two more games)

I think you're confusing "BCS bid" with something else. BCS bid means you play in a BCS game (only 5 BCS games). It is impossible for PSU to play in a BCS game. That's a fact. OSU, Mich, and Wisconsin all finished their seasons and higher than PSU. Again, it is not possible for PSU to go to a BCS game.

PSU does have a bowl game to play, not a BCS game. The BCS rankings they put up don't matter past the top 15 this late in the season. Notre Dame needs a top 8 finish in the BCS for a BCS bid and Boise State needs a top 12 BCS finish for a BCS game. See what I'm saying? Anything past 15 does not matter.

PSU getting in to the Top 25 would help the Big Ten teams IN THE TOP 10 to get BCS bids... but there is that 2 team limit, so it's a moot point

I see what you're saying now, but I edited the post with some more info about ND.

Why no response on that long post I made. 😕 It took a while to type.

Buccaneers are beating the Redskins 17-10. Our QB, Gradkowski, is not bad at all. He's from the MAC which makes some good QBs. He's from the same area at Marino and broke all his records (I think HS records or college, can't remember).

On that note, the Redskins suck. I don't think it's Joe Gibbs fault at all. He is a multipe (I think 3) time winner of the Super Bowl so he's had previous success. Just boils down to the players that have to perform and they can't. Brunell isn't that good. He reminds me of Michigan's QB. Shotgun all the time, step far back too much, lose protection, hurried/sack, or pass for a small gain. This season proves the Redskins' players just suck.

I agree:

1. the SEC has great teams
2. it's not UF's fault that their opponents sucked this year...

my point was:

1. there is a place for the computers
2. and I somehow went on a tangent about how the SEC big shots NEVER leave the southeast... home-home's are something that you need to do nowadays.... I've made this argument a few years ago, I don't remember specifics, and my brain is starting to hurt from lack of sleep 😳

the Big 10 is loved by the computers every year for some reason... I guess we have better statistical consults 😉

let me find my data to back me up... if you want to keep this going

Cuz they're speechless.....you totally pwned.

I feel good about the Georgia - Georgia Tech game. The two losses they had to Vandy and Kentucky were when Stafford was not playing. Stafford is a freshman and was a highly recruited qb. He was offered spots at USC and Michigan, actually. Now that he's got the position, he'll bring Georgia back up. Georgia had a top 5 recruiting class last year (behind USC and Florida) and are currently 2 in recruiting. Only good things to come.

This brings me to another point, UMP:

2006 entering recruiting class:

1. USC
2. Florida (Tim Tebow top 2 QB, Percy Harvin #1 overall recruit)
3. Florida State
4. Georgia
5. Texas
6. PSU
7. LSU
8. ND
9. Oklahoma
10. Auburn
11. Alabama
12. OSU
13. Michigan
14. Miami
15. Clemson

Current 2007 recruiting (of course still more people to sign):

1. Texas
2. Georgia
3. Florida
4. Auburn
5. USC
6. LSU
7. Michigan
8. Ole Miss
9. Virginia
10. Tennessee
....
14. Alabama
...
17. OSU

All of that is according to Rivals.com. 😉 How come the SEC is the toughest conference? Because we get so many good players ranked from high school. Watch out for our 2006 current freshman class. Number 2 in the country for 2006. 😉 Keep in mind this is just all in good fun. We all have opinions no matter what the subject. 🙂

It's snowing! At least that is better than the sheer oppressive cloudiness.

Just throwing this out for the non-sports folks who are probably pulling their brains out at this thread.

Where are the non-sports folks??!! I know oxeye is sick, PW is recovering - where are A-man, Molly, Q?

Give me some advice about what to do for Thanksgiving. I only have Thurs and Fri off and am on call on Sat. AND Sun. And who knows how late I will be at work on Weds (seriously - could get done early afternoon, or not until late). So I get there say midnight-ish on Weds night. Leave late Friday. Is this worth it?

Alright, Bucs over Skins 20-10. Please let this game end. BCS rankings will be announced on TV after the game. 😳

I'm still disappointed FSU is not ranked this season. Mich had 1 ranked non-conf game and FSU would've been ours. We can't trust those inbred ******. 🙄

you should go--be with your family

yeah--and quit talking about football

Let me put it like this: I'm greedy. I want UF to be the 2006 basketball and football champions. I won't deny it. I'd love that **** so much you can't understand. The closest it's been done before was a 5 year difference.

If UF doesn't go to the championship game this year, that's okay. Our bball team will repeat (first time since Duke in 91-92). The 2nd place team is OSU. They're unproven freshmen. We have all starters with championship experience returning. 2 of the 5 starters will be top 5 picks in the NBA draft. Since we'll win the 2007 bball championship, we'll win the 2007 football championship. Chris Leak will be gone and the #2 2006 high school QB and #1 overall recruit (WR) will be playing as starters. We'll win. Undefeated.

me and Will have hijacked this thread for a solid 4 hours now 😀

I'm going to go on a limb here: watch out for Illinois. I'm not kidding. Ron Zook is a terrible head coach, but he's a helluva recruiter. You see our starters? 85%+ is Zook's work. Chris Leak? That's Ron Zook's work. Granted, the name "Gators" had a lot of kids sign because they always wanted to play there, but Zook lured those kids in from other high-rated programs. Zook will recruit nicely and bring Illinois a bowl game (not BCS of course) in a year or two.

I think Ryan Mallett will do just fine for us... and his #3 QB ranking... he'll be nice after Henne goes off... He's 6'7 235 lbs 😱

After seeing yesterday's performance, anything will be better than Henne. Sorry, but those are my honest feelings on the guy. It wasn't the OSU secondary that made him look bad, it was himself.

Edit: Did you just find out about Rivals.com? 😕

nope... I sample around on it once in a while... I have my phases where I obsess about recruting

I'm lonely, but not THAT lonely. :meanie: (Just kidding UMP!! 😉 )

No, seriously, if I stay here I already have some invites to people's houses for Thanksgiving dinner which is really nice. 😍

i just have to take an exam tomorrow and then i am outta here! i wish i could escape to someplace warmer though--it's so freakin cold

BCS rankings coming up on FOX. Bears beat Jets 10-0. Bucs appear to have beaten Skins 20-17 (booth review on on-side kick, Bucs called on the field).

Edit: Bucs' ball. Kneel down, win.

Are you serious??!! I am SO jealous!! Best wishes on your exam. :luck:

We are having a pretty snowfall here. I need to go to the grocery store.

There is now for you: F1

Sept-Jan is football
Nov-June is bball
March-Oct is F1

Always sports on. 😀

BCS RANKINGS COMING UP!

I've had the Pistons, the World Cup, and then the Tigers to occupy me through last summer
