how's your studying going guys? are you freaking out? burned out?

this is our stress relief thread....or our group anxiety thread, whatever..... 😀

for those of you that have no idea what the mcat random threads are about, check out molly's explanation:

MollyMalone said:
It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO POST HERE, you're welcome to jump in at anytime. Here's the final tally from part 7:

So I finally got my letter from Houston and it says I have "an award of 10k and will be awarded annualy for 4 years" Is that 10k a year for 4 years or 2500 a year for 4 years? 😕

Wow, you would think a med school could word sentences better than that. 🙄

No kidding - not to mention the current course of study thing is really starting to freak me out.

Are you referring to the "This acceptance is conditional upon the satisfactory completion of your current course of study"?

That freaks me out, too.

10k per year for 4 years.

what he said ^^^^

Miami does soemthing similar to that but they offer a bit more then 10k more like 15k a year. But they are also a more expensive school then the Tx. schools tend to be from what I've been old by a certain unnamed poster.

😀

Hope everyone's tanksgiving was great. Brett how was your birthday??? Hope you had tons of fun. 😀

I went shopping today and there was nothing good at the lameooooooooooooooo alls in Sarasota. I guess I'll have to se what's in the Tam[a malls when I go back up there. Lameooooooo that's what the malls here are.

Yup. Esp. since my transcript at my current school shows me as a pre-med chem major... um. I really don't want to waste another 3 years finishing up a chem degree, thank so much. :barf:

Ok so my views on this debate about education......

Well the skills of what we learn as a physician will mostly come from what we do in residency and most of what we learn in undergrad and med school will be lost into oblivion. So in that sense, your BIL was right that its what you learn hands on that is most important.

However to get there we have to jump through many hoops and its not an easy road.

Actually as a funny story I have a friend who ended up getting a GED instead of highschool diploma because he didn't like his highschool teachers but he was very smart and had a 4.0 almost throughout college and a 36+ MCAT score.

He's since been accepted to a few med schools.

But as will pointed out those people are people who are smart regardless and not necessarily ppl who need to say they were part of the IB program or part of the honors college etc. Also I agree with the statement that those that fal in this category are an exception rather then a rule because most who drop out tend to be people who don't often have any ambition or who were people who were very troubled as youth. Very very few are rich in the Bill Gates sense of rich with less then a highschool diploma.

For me the idea of becoming a doctor has nothing to do with wanting a lot of money so much as the value of the education and the fact that I think its a good job that I'd like.

But if a person's idea of success is becoming wealthy I think that can be done by properly investing in starting your own business (i.e. hotel, motels, convenient stores, etc.). This is what many Indians do and they are very wealthy as a result without the great amounts of debt and years in school that doctors accrue before actually gaining some wealth.

To make money you work harder then the avg person regardless of whether it is with a degree or without a degree. Everything lies in your business and marketing skills to. If you are a doc and want to become rich you are more likely to become rich if you are that CEO and founding member of a partnership of 8+ docs and if you are a construction worker then you make it big by being the head of a successful construction company through figuring out how to market to get clients etc.

Okay - my Aggies won 😀 And I should be celebrating... Dodge made an amazing interception to clinch it and then Heard needs to go and take a cheap shot against McCoy. McCoy is annoying, I know. God knows I want to take a swing at him at times... but come ON! One of the things that makes A&M so much greater than t.u. is our integrity and sense of self... and Heard has to go and stain our win with that childish bull****. I'm so pissed right now.

But I will say this... Best Rushing defense in the country, what? We got over a 100 yds rushing against you guys. Can you say over-rated? 🙄

Yeah, I was going to be kind of pleased to see an upset win, until I saw that. Really, that behavior may be acceptable in Miami, but it's got no place in Texas football. 👎

Gotta love my school though... I went to make a facebook club about kicking Heard off the football team and there were already about 5. 👍

Gig'em Ags!

I don't have a high school diploma! 😎

Had a very good time today with jlw. 👍

Finishing watching the Husker game with my dad then driving back to A2. On call tomorrow. :barf:

Congrats Ana on the Aggie win! 👍 (JLW and I thought of you as soon as we saw that! 😀 )

What happened? I didn't see anything on ESPN.com
In the last few moments of the game, McCoy threw an interception to Dodge and about a second after the ball was called dead Heard threw a late tackle on McCoy. It was really shameful how blatant it was. He got throw out of the game for it. :mad;

what is it?

BTW, I'm watching "What the #$%^ do we know?" This movie is bizarre.

its when tom cruise went crazy on the today show about how psych is a pseudoscience and how he's studied it 🙄

"theres no such thing as a chemical imbalance", thanks dr.cruise

electric shocking people against their will

yeah i know, i guarantee you that he has no idea that its used today to successfully treat conditions like OCD or suicidal depression in pts that show little response to meds. today its done in OR's with anesthetics and muscle relaxants and isnt violent at all anymore because of that, you get in and induce a 50 second generalized seizure and you're done. it helps normalize brain chemistry afterwards and there are patients that swear by it. my attending in the psych ER actually performs ECT as part of his private practice.

A.....did you have a nice thanksgiving? 🙂

yeah sweetie, thanks. my nephew tripped while running around the house and busted his lower lip open but he's fine. cried for like a minute and then kept running around. ha, boys.

how was yours? did you get your...........

very interesting!! have you seen it done? i'm glad it's helping these people when nothing else seems to

my attending is off all of next week and wont be back until after i'm on internal medicine. i told him i really wanted to see an ECT session though and he got my number and told me he'd call me the next time he has one scheduled. hopefully i'll be able to sneak out of medicine for a few minutes to go see it.

OMG. Yeah, I remember watching that. I highly recommend a large amount of intoxicating beverages.

An even better extremely bizarre movie is Pi: Faith in Chaos. (just kidding, even alcohol won't get you through that)
