What do you mean "straight PhD"? Are you applying for a PhD program or have you completed the program and are applying for the degree itself?

Is mudphud the MD/PhD??? I don't know why people want to do that over just a regular PhD. Any benefits?

wow there hasnt been a post in a while.
I saw 300 tonight.
The action was good, the fight scenes were pretty well correographed.
The acting was pretty bad. Every time they talked it brought the movie down a little.
overall it was pretty entertaining.

^I figured the acting may not be great. I haven't seen the movie, but figured it would be when I heard one guy say "this is where we fight!" I expected him to follow up with: "this is where we eat! this is where we sleep! this is where we go to the bathroom!" I doubt he said that 🙂

**waiting for Canuck to yell at us for not posting. She's not helping the cause...**

i think the movie definitely could do without the talking.
Honestly, the movie would have been fine with no "story line"

  That is exactly what I was going to say.

beary, mudphd HO

good morning doctor! i thought of you in the hospital yesterday. my intern and i were walking to the other side of the hospital to do a dressing change and he just busts out with "i'm so worried about step 3."

he said that he took it 2 weeks ago and that he should find out the results in the next week or so. hes freaked out because hes an anesthesia intern and the anesthesia department requires all their interns to pass step 3 by april of their intern year, if they dont they get FIRED. 😱 he said he couldnt believe they threatened to fire them like that but that got him freaked out because if he didnt pass step 3, he wouldnt be able to take it again until about 5 days before the dead line in april for having passed it.

beary! 😍 How's my favorite path HO doing today?

Hey Q!!! 😍 I'm doing well. I have the ENTIRE weekend off - first time since Christmas! Got a good night's sleep last night, and my folks will be here soon.

How are you doing? How's life as an M1 treating you?

Well, you aren't my favorite path HO, but hi yourself. 😛 How are things on the wards?

good dr.Q, this is my black weekend meaning im in the hospital both saturday and sunday but today was just rounds and dressing changes so i was only in the hospital from 545am-9am. tomorrow im on call though so ill be at the hospital until monday morning. i heard last night was crazy at ryder though, 35 traumas came in! yes, THIRTY-FIVE. 😱 😱 😱

on my shifts the most ive seen has been about 8-10, 35 is nuts. lots of motor vehicle accidents last night.

Getting close to being done. :wow: Time is really flying. They're already making plans for second look weekend. I remember going to second looks myself, like, a week or two ago it seems. 😛

Wow, that's insane. I've noticed you added your school to your siggy; you're not worried any more?

WHOA. :scared: 😱 I have never heard of that - that is really really malignant. Like intern year isn't stressful enough with a threat like that hanging over your head. 🙁

I am really glad to have that thing over with and just be able to focus on my pathology education now.

Wow, 35 is a lot. Probably because it was Friday night - lots of drunk people out partying.

I hope your call day goes fast tomorrow. 😍

Hey Q.....

When I saw ur avatar I thought of the dyne - erg joke, i totally didn't know the diene one. (was an engineer, go figure)

If M = 1 centimeter
What is W?

Ans:
W = 1 erg.
(i.e. 1 dyne-cm)

BTW, my first time on this random thing, and I must say, it's pretty random.

Have a great weekend!

Thought about the mudphud...but I want to graduate before I'm 40 😛
You would. I started med school at 31 and will finish my MD at 35 and even my residency by or before turning 40. And I took the really long path of getting separate MS and PhD degrees plus taking some time off to work. Now if you just don't want an MD, that's another story. 😎

Wow! That's great that your year is flying by.

I feel the same way about Match Day - it's next week and it doesn't seem like long ago at all I was doing that myself.

I am so excited to see where my old Iowa buddies are going and who will be our new residents at Michigan! I hope Thursday isn't a busy day so I can spend the entire day glued to the computer. 😀

Ok, I don't get the humor in this. What is M? W is work I assume.

Hmm... I started very young (21) and did the MSTP in 7 years. So I'll finish residency at 32, fellowship at 34, and if I did a research postdoc about 37. 😱 Wouldn't get tenure until my early 40s.

I can't believe A is going to be an M4. When I first joined SDN, he had just started med school.

sorry, it's a bit dry....

W is a "dying" M.....like a animal on it's backside, like ur diene.

It's a dying centimeter.....it's just a memonic u learn as an engineer to remember how they relate.

It's not related to work or anything like that.

Tenure isn't the same as graduating. Plus, a lot of straight PhDs don't get tenure until their 40s either. I know an awful lot of people who spend 3-5 years doing post docs and have trouble getting a tenure track position. 😛

Ok, now the joke makes sense. But I still don't understand what M is. A unit of length? To me, it means molarity. 😉

nope. but i did take down the link to the blog. i dont want to put too much info out there, if i told a story about a gun shot victim that was killed last night for example itd be easy to identify the patient's name if you knew it happened in miami.

so thats why the blog link isnt public anymore. the blog is still up, just not advertised in my sig or sdn profile.

seriously, i felt really bad for him. i just hope he passed it so he doesnt have to worry about it, apparently the department instituted this new policy because they are becoming more and more focused on board scores and figure its the best way to motivate people to not blow it off. 👎

so I caught the history channel's version of 300, it's a really satisfying plot as far as the persian invasion. It was a story built for hollywood. I wonder if anyone has written a historical/fictional novel on it yet.....it would be a great read.

haha, no, it's just an assumption (no physical association).

sorry, didn't mean to make a mess of it =)
This is why engineers should never be allowed to make jokes. :meanie: 😛

I'm teasing you; I actually have a lot of respect for engineers. I think if I had to do it all over again (and if I had gone to a college that offered engineering), I'd have totally been into that. I'm definitely an applied science kinda girl. 👍

That's smart. HIPAA violations are not anything to joke around with.

👎 indeed.

I don't think any fellowship cares about Step 3 scores anyway - it's not like Step 1 scores. All you need to do is barely scrape by (like I did 😎 ) and you're golden. By the time you're applying for fellowships all they will care about is your performance in residency.
