That said, Williams I think the obvious answer as to why MD/PhD is the MD part!!! People who do a joint degree want to do clinical research for the most part not bench research. Or if they do bench research, they'd still like to have the MD for other reasons such as seeing patients, etc.

The real question is why MD/PhD instead of doing research with a MD alone?? I think in that case the PhD affords more research background and knowledge in a specific area.

Actually, most MD/PhDs do bench research.

My view is that the PhD isn't necessary, but gives you nice protected time to learn how to do research. You don't wanna be doing the learning during your postdoc/fellowship, where the quality of your research affects your getting a good job afterward. However the most tangible benefit early on is the free education.

Ok, I am UBER TICKED! We had finally arranged to have crown moulding installed in the living and dining rooms. They were supposed to be here this morning at 8. We have used this contractor before with good results, so what was there to think about? He said it would be done in a day and that was great for our busy schedules. Eight o'clock came and went, so did 9, and then 10. I paged hubby at 10:45am to take care of the situation because we have learned the hard way that contractors do not listen to women in this town. (Gee, could we get anymore southern??) So, he finally gets ahold of him and they contractors says "I forgot." YOU FORGOT??? WTF? What if I FORGOT an assignment? At best, I get docked 10%. I bet he wouldn't like that. So, he rounds up some guys off of other jobs and comes over acting as if nothing had happened. Then, after being here for 5-10 mins, they leave saying they need to go get their tools and will be back in 30 minutes. You work with your tools for a living!!! You were going to a job!!! What made you think this one was different?? Again, WTF?? As you may guess, they didn't show back up in a half hour. In fact, it was more like 2 hours. Gee...

And again...WTF.

So, they put up the crown (I am upstairs the whole time) and I hear the head guy downstairs. No biggie. But, then, when everyone leaves but the painter, the poor guy says "I'll be back in the morning at 8." UM, NO YOU WON'T! Apparently, the job that he had to do couldn't be done in a day because of the filling and drying. Ok, so I tell him that he got stuck telling me that because the head guy knew what a crappy mood I was already in because of the other crap he had pulled during the day. SO...the painter primes and leaves and I go to let the dogs out the back door. The key is GONE. I look everywhere. It is not hanging on the hook, not on the table, I scour the ground. Um, yeah. I am p1553d!.

PWH is on the way home and will deal with it from there. Needless to say, even with the job half finished, this contractor just lost the rest of this job and a nice bathroom remodeling. Too bad A$$!

He is not coming back in our house, well unless whoever stole the key (yes, I am saying STOLE) lets him in before I change the lock tonight. Thankfully, that one doesn't match the others. 😡 😡 😡

My other comment about the VA - I'm getting stress headaches. I have had like 5 headaches in my entire life before and they were all when I was sick. Now I'm taking ibuprofen like it's going out of style.
