stick a fork in that puppy. I am home, safely, after driving through some nasty thunderstorms. after the car 30 yards in front of me one lane over hit a slick spot, fishtailed, did a 360, crossed over my lane and hit the guardrail with his back bumper, I decided it might be wise to pull over at the next exit and let some of it pass. :scared:

hope you kicked butt on your mcat:luck::luck:

you too meg:luck::luck::luck:

Seriously. 🙁

2 days, 10 hours, and 29 minutes left for me to study before our first big anatomy exam.

stay calm--the hardest things for me today on the practical were the nerves/arteries/veins. you may think you know where a certain nerve, artery, vein is, but once you get to the practical it can become all jumbled. esp. when you have to go from body to body--so really make sure you've got a handle on it.

Grrrrr, why isn't anyone buying my textbooks from Amazon? I've got the lowest listed price for all 3 of them!

Could really use these $250 for secondaries.🙄

My worst grades in college were my first two semesters. I shouldn't expect med school to be any different. I need to work on lowering my standards.

I am exactly the same way. It takes me a long time to figure out how to do something (slower than the rest of the people around) but I end up strong. In med school, first semester all I got were "passes" (we had a pass/near honors/honors system). And one of those passes was a barely pass ha. Second year I got honors in everything.

Graduate school was the same way and I was in serious danger of not passing my comprehensive exams. Ended up doing pretty well. I think residency was the same. I wasn't the strongest resident to start with but am getting better now.

And I mean this in all sincerity - DON'T WORRY ABOUT YOUR GRADES NOW. I don't know what kind of grading system you have, but all you need to do is pass whatever it is. No residency is going to care if you got honors in anatomy or biochemistry or histology or whatever. Just settle in and get used to things.

Somebody told me the same thing when I was an M1 and I couldn't get used to it because of the whole pre-med rat race where grades are so important. Passing your classes will be a gigantic achievement and anything else is just gravy.

My problem on the practice practical we had was lung stuff. If we can't touch it, I have a really hard time telling an artery from a bronchus. 😳

My feeling is that I'm going to do better on the practical than the written, though. I guess we'll see.

And I'm getting annoyed that I'm finding contradictions between what my professor says and what I've read other places (ie other med school practice test questions). Our professor says the azygos vein doesn't have valves but I read another place that it does. Which is true? My book doesn't say either way.

My school still uses letter grades. 🙄 And I wouldn't be too worried about it except that we lose our financial aid (ie Stafford loans) if we don't maintain above a 3.0 GPA. That really my biggest worry with this whole thing. I guess I could hit up my grandmother-in-law for a loan if I lose my financial aid, though.

Thanks for the encouragement. I remember chatting with you last year about how we both have a hard time with new stuff.

Back to anatomy .... :barf:

I seriously can't make myself learn all the stuff about muscles - they're so boring for me. 😴
You should go pump some iron and read up about the muscles you're working in between sets.😎

:hardy:

Ouch, kinda puts perspectives on things.

What all have you studied in anatomy so far? Right now we're finishing up the thorax.

There's a gunner in all of us. Some just choose to outwardly display it 😉

Ugh I didn't think of that. 🙁 Man that's a whole another level of stress. 😍

PS I have no idea if the azygos vein has valves or not. I bet nobody knows lol.

We've done the arm and leg - we don't get to cut into the body until next block. It's actually be a nice introduction to the lab without anything too gross.

Next block is CRR (Cardio, Resp. & Renal) - so anatomy should be alittle more intense.

Speaking of - T - 2 days til my first end of block exam. :scared:

Just here to say that I hope our little penguin kicked some major butt on the Mkitty 🙂

I still have not studied the stupid muscles - but I did make a nice little table with all the information I'm supposed to know.

My professors really haven't emphasized origin/insertion at all but I have this feeling I should know it cold anyway.

Off to start cramming ....

Hey fellow M1! I am studying muscles as we speak 😛

We don't emphasize origin/insertion very much but we are expected to have a general idea about where they attach in order to understand their function. I'm not doing such a great job at learning it so far. oh well.

best of luck to you studying!! i know i'm freaking out already 😱

hey stranger!! good luck on your exams! mine are coming up in a week and a day. 😱

we covered the back and upper and lower limbs in this block. it's a ton of material. next block should be a bit less material...we're just doing head and neck after the 21st.

omg i am getting so frustrated with that sort of thing. we go through the book (moore's essential clinical anatomy), and it says one thing about blood supply for a muscle, and then we go to the lecture notes and it says something else, and then a resource online says another thing entirely! it's so frustrating. we had a practice practical today but i had to stay home and watch the football game (first break from studying today! 🙂)

Wow good luck peepz!!! I hope you guys are able to figure out what the professor is looking for and do well. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Ana,

Good to hear from you and good luck with exams.

Meg and Penguin,

:luck: with your MCAT scores. My roommate took it on the 7th as well so she's in the same boat as you. I'm praying for you two and her.

Gradua8in2003,
I'm wishing you :luck: as well and hope you have good news in 2 days.

Nothing new here. This weekend was a little dreary without my roommates around. I don't like being in the house when no one's here because its creepy. You start hearing every single sound someone makes from outside and it starts to creep me out. Glad one of my 2 roommate's came back today cuz I don't like being home alone.

Ok I'm off to Borders for a while and then going to dance practice and then I'll be back to chill and see if my bro is online.
