I just found out that my Mom has a basal cell carcinoma on the side of her nose. 🙁 That's the first family of mine that's ever had cancer. I hope this isn't the start to a bad week - MCAT score release is Wednesday....
Yikes! Sorry to hear about your mom. Look on the upside - it's not as dangerous as some other forms of skin cancer, like melanoma. She'll probably just have it removed and never worry about it again.

So I thought I was ahead of the schedule with microbio, having completed 1.5 out of 14 units in one week. Then I flipped to the study schedule, only to find that I'm supposed to study 2 units in the first week. *sigh* 🙄 Back to micro!

I still have not studied the stupid muscles - but I did make a nice little table with all the information I'm supposed to know.

My professors really haven't emphasized origin/insertion at all but I have this feeling I should know it cold anyway.

Off to start cramming ....
There are some amazing pictures in Netter's of the bones with the origins and insertions coloured in on the bones. So great. Those pages are now covered in cadaver juice from this afternoon.

(I'm back temporarily since I really need a study break and the only response from my friends in class is "Get the hell away from me, I'm studying.") 🙁

omg i am getting so frustrated with that sort of thing. we go through the book (moore's essential clinical anatomy), and it says one thing about blood supply for a muscle, and then we go to the lecture notes and it says something else, and then a resource online says another thing entirely! it's so frustrating. we had a practice practical today but i had to stay home and watch the football game (first break from studying today! 🙂)

Rumor has it that our anatomy prof gets most of the questions out of BRS Anatomy - man, I could kiss Evo for giving me that book. 🙂

sry micro is bad jochi.. mines a blast. we covered three units in two and half weeks tho and took ourfirst major test so I know what u mean
Which book are you using? I've got Tortora/Funke/Case. The material itself is not hard, it's the assignments that are ridiculous. "Describe the differences in the image of this bacterium when viewed with ten different microscopy techniques..."😕 :barf:

So, Monday tomorrow....which means possibly physics final grades, possibly news from med schools, and definitely boxing for the first time after a 2.5-week hiatus.:scared: :scared: :scared:

yeah... def. hang in there chad. If you have to have skin ca its the best type. chances are, mom'l be just fine. ill be praying for yall.

Plus it's usually not a hereditary cancer type.

Thanks, guys! You have helped alleviate some of my stress this week.

Now if only you could help me with not stressing about the impending score release!

Sounds like someone's class needs an infusion of gunnerol stat. 😉

The closest we've gotten to a cadaver is histo slides. 😴

Well, today is not my day so far!

1) My internet is down (I'm at the library now)! I called them and they said that I have to wait until they call me back within 24 hours to see whether they can fix it up there or whether I have to wait for a technician to come by. Translation - I'll probably be without internet for a week only to have the technician come out and tell me it's my computer and not their network.🙄 (that's the way it was last time)

2) No physics grades!

3) No news from med schools!

4) I need to send away my EVMS secondary and the photo for AECOM, but I can't find the photos that I took specifically for secondary purposes just a few weeks ago.

5) I need to send back my physics lab materials, but I can't find the return packing slip anywhere, either, and I don't wanna pay $20 to ship it myself!

GAH!👎

Said a quick prayer that life will improve tenfold joch. 😍😍

Awwww I'm sorry 🙁

I only knew she was taking it because of my recently acquired, severe facebook addiction.

I'm sure you kicked major ass as well 🙂

I figured. I don't keep up with facebook much - thank Goodness my blog is linked in there.

I hope I kicked butt. I kicked and missed last time!

P.S. Evo's hawt

bah, understand the kick and miss.... i'm just ready for wednesday!

Anyone have any ideas for a 5 minute presentation on PKU? That sounds really easy, but its incredibly difficult. Give me 15-20 and I could make a case.
I'm definitely taking some low-protein foods to bait the class, but either than that....??

booo to mondays
im getting a bit antsy about med schools.
the stats are: 1 rejections and 0 interviews

You could talk about the genetic component, characteristics of the disease (especially when someone doesn't follow the diet) and how the disease affects other bodily functions (e.g. a woman with PKU that gets pregnant). And of course, why lower protein foods are important.

I had a client once whose mother had PKU and was not very strict about her diet. The child subsequently had deficits in speech/language, cognitive, and motor development - MR is a side effect of not treating PKU.

👍Thanks meg. That actually seems like a very feasible 5-min plan 🙂 I think the food shall be my major "visual" (alone with this cool bullseye thing I d/led from U of Washington PKU Clinic).

Thanks, but apparently prayer is only 20% effective...at least on me. I did finally find the return packing slip for my physics lab stuff, but everything else still sucks. I took some more pix and sent away the AECOM and EVMS stuff. Still waiting to hear from med schools, internet people, and physics prof!

I 😍 SDN Mobile. keeps me sane when all else fails.

I'm so useless waiting on scores, guys. I was really hoping I wouldn't get as nervous as last time, but I think its worse this time...

I'm trying to write a paper... yeah...
