Where is everyone tonight? At church?

I finally ventured out tonight to see the tornado damage in Iowa City. It looks like a war zone. I will post a few pics tomorrow.

Did you just get baptized? Or were you watching other folks get baptized?

No, I was baptized at one month of age. It is just part of the catholic easter vigil ceremony traditionally.

I fell asleep at the scope today. First time ever. Big shock: Came during cytology rotation. 😳 No one noticed, it was instantaneous.

Trust me: You're not the only one who's fallen asleep during cyto work... 😉

What is a stethoscope? 😉

Well I got to go to the opera last night - Michigan Opera Theater's production of Aida. Good show. My girlfriend says I'm gay because I like opera. Tell you what though, there were a LOT of total obnoxious pricks there. Trying to go to the men's room before the show was an adventure. Getting pushed aside by gruff older men in tuxedos who were either not happy to be there or not happy that they had to use a men's room that required them to walk down stairs. I favor the latter. Snobs are annoying. Of course, most of them are of the type that as soon as the curtain falls, they fall over each other trying to sprint out of there, before the stars take their deserved bows on stage. Who are these people? Why do they even bother to show up?

Highlight of the crowd observance: One of the patrons was a 80ish man who was there alone, wearing pants that were so loose that he had to keep hiking them up, and he had a belt that looked like a rope. He had a light brown T-shirt on that said, "I LOVE ISRAEL."

Note that the I LOVE ISRAEL guy was there until the last applause died out.

Every single time the red sox are on tv here, it is a Tim Wakefield game. ENOUGH. I can't take anymore of this.

The red wings aren't doing too hot either...they lost to edmonton in double OT last night 🙁

I always root for the canadian teams in NHL playoffs. Ever since Winnipeg moved to Phoenix I have had this impression. Except for Montreal. They can kiss my ass.

The PD at UPenn had a bobblehead of Peter Forsberg on his desk... I know he isn't an Av anymore, but ugh 😉 With the wings, maybe it was a good thing that I didn't end up buying those second round playoff tickets (again)...

There's probably some pathologist out there with part of his spleen.

My attending today is a fundamentalist christian. We had a discussion about "intelligent design." Oh man...
Those discussions make me blink a little. The Guy is fundamentalist Christian, and when I took him to see Body Worlds he saw evidence for divine design everywhere.

Me, I saw things that looked waaaaay too much like work. Or med school. 🙄

Hey, Beary is on SDN at 11 am! You are clearly not on OB anymore. Welcome to vacation Care-Bear. I just got up and am still working on my first cup of coffee. Aaaawwwww-yeah! I love this vacation thing. I am going to soak it up while it lasts.

The dermatology people (2 of them) come and sit in on dermpath signout until noon when they have to leave. So today, one of them said she was there "covering" for another resident who was supposed to be there but was away or something. I wanted to say, "Covering? Covering for what? I preview, I gross, I dictate, I order recuts and special stains, I deal with the problem cases. You sit there and ask and answer questions."

To be fair though, they do help out sometimes, because they know the clinicians and sometimes know the patients.

So Dr. Greenson was here giving a seminar yesterday, and he showed some of his blues videos afterwards.. yaah, you've got to get a cameo in at least one of them.

Buying a house is the most frustrating process ever. I just have to keep telling myself that all the up front costs and hassle will be worth it when I sell it and make some $$ of off the appreciation equity. Right now I have one under contract and the seller is being a complete tool, not to mention the inspection came up with a million repairs that need to be done and the seller is being subborn about them. I am ready to walk away and rent at this point.

Otherwise, this vacation is too good. After I got over the guilty feeling of having nothing to do it is going to be hard to go back to residency and responsiblilty.

Sprues blues? He is an interesting bird. Very quiet and nondescript at times, but other times not. At our end of the year party last year he got up and sang "Let's get drunk and screw" on the Karaoke.

Good luck, selling aint no picnic either... all these damn idiots tromping through your house and not getting offers.. Argh!

I am not looking forward to when I have to move, that is for sure. housing market is not so good here at present and there are a lot for sale. Since the automotive industry has crapped out things have not been good in this state.

Housing market sucks here too. It's quite an interesting period really. You have all these deluded sellers who bought when the prices were high and are trying to break even or make profit by selling now. Problem is, the real estate market has taken a significant dip, you have deluded sellers that are stuck having their places on the market for months, and the buyers who are trying to lowball the sellers. Theoretically, it should be a great time to buy now and given the falling prices, the market here is definitely a buyers market (as opposed to when I bought a year ago). The main issue has to do with how long it will take for the sellers to realize that if they were to sell now, they should expect to lose money.

Comparable condos to mine in my neighborhood have been on the market for months and when they eventually are sold, they're sold for a significantly lower prices.

There are going to be a lot of defaults on mortgages I think. Around here, I think a lot of people took out big loans to buy a second property as an investment opportunity. And now that isn't looking so good...

For the longest time I was considering buying. But then I considered that I would have to move for fellowship, and finally get booted out of the country, so I decided it wasn't worth the effort and headache of purchasing and upkeep.

I'm probably pissing away precious $$$ renting, but at least I can yell for my landlord when anything's broken. I wasn't born amongst them prairies and mountains - drywall and heating systems mystify me.

Funny you should ask!

The Guy would say "terrible", but I do better when he isn't around.

I took my drivers' tests in Canada - a lot easier to convert a Canadian licence than an international licence. But I still can't get used to this Turn Right On Red business - and then people will honk.

Basically just treat it like a stop sign unless you see a "no turn on red" sign. I think there are some states in the country where the default is "no turn on red" and you can only turn if you see a sign that says it is allowed.

So many traffic regulations are broken in this city...No Turn on Red means "No Turn on Red if there aren't cops nearby." Drivers here are wicked retahhded. Oh and I almost got hit by a train today. Hooray for me. So close!

I used to not honk...until I moved here.

I know that. It's just that for 90% of my driving history I never had to move at a red light 🙂 I remember most times, but occasionally habit kicks in and I'll idle for longer than I should, and that pisses people off.

Well, 90% of my driving history I have been barely stopping before turning right on a red light. Now people are giving me dirty looks every time I forget I’m not allowed to turn right on a red light. Fortunately I have gotten no tickets… yet.
