Random non-pathology and only peripherally related to pathology thread

BTW - Looks like June 30 is the magic day for us to start at BWH 😀 We're leaning towards renting in Boston, now. It's too stressful for us to sell our house, find a new one in a good neighborhood, find my wife a job, and take care of our new daughter all at once. :scared: By renting, we can actually keep our savings just in case we need it, rather than pouring it all into a condo and hoping my wife finds a job.

Well all that is a moot point. Cheers dude.

BTW, you might be wondering about the whole letters of reference deal for Brigham. I just got an email response saying that they have my letters from the residency application on file and I don't need to send any extra ones. This should apply to you too. Just figured you might wanna know... 🙂
 Guess I can tell Rosai to forget about it.

Yeah, I was gonna rent the first year too and then worry about finding a place to buy for the subsequent years. But my parents insisted that they help me buy a place. Wait, did I say "help me"? Oh I meant...they insisted on putting down the downpayment FOR me. Yeah that sounds more accurate. I ain't leaving Ann Arbor with jack ****...who am I kidding?

asians may be gunners...but we're pretty damn spoiled too 🙂 add that to your stereotype list.

Holy ****. Johnny "If the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit!" Cochrane has died.

Of a "brain disorder".

I heard a brain tumor. Of course, as a pathologist, I assume GBM (WHO grade IV/IV). Probably pretty high MIB-1.

June 30th, eh? Not bad. Does that include the orientation crappola? Andy, that's cool about the parents. 👍 Parents should do stuff like that if they can.

Yeah, June 30th is the path department orientation and July 1 is the hospital orientation. Agreed - major thumbs up to Andy's parents. 👍

Yeah - I didn't ask my parents to pay for any of my down payment, but they had paid for my entire med school anyway (and college) so I had money saved up anyway. So they got me a nice tv anyway for the condo. 🙂

The thing with my parents was kinda funny. Momma just randomly calls me up one morning and asks, "How is the apartment search going?" I said, "Fine. I have some good choices and the rent doesn't exceed $1500." Then she proceeds to tell me that she doesn't feel I should be paying rent anymore and I should buy a condo. I'm like, "Yeah, and how am I supposed to do that? Should I start selling drugs again, mom?" Anyways...it's all good. Apparently they had money saved away to pay for med school tuition but this was such a non-issue. Thank you NIGMS 🙂 .

beary, it's about time they start showing new episodes of Lost again. I almost forgot about that show. Perhaps I will watch the Numbers episode again to refresh myself with what's going on up to this point.

I mean, sitting on the potty i have had at least 4 solid ideas during the course of my research!!!!

POtty seat is where the mind is most relaxed.....i stand corrected...

Seriously, 3 years ago I was faced with the task of identifying an unknown binding partner to a protein I worked with. I was on the toilet pinching a loaf thinking, "Perhaps I will use yeast two-hybrid." Then my colon was empty and I wiped my ass with the yeast two-hybrid protocol cuz I had run out of toilet paper. It was about this time when I decided I would not be using yeast two-hybrid. Things worked out well.

Don't underestimate the power of the throne!

I have had some really good ideas in the shower.
Yeah, see I can't think much in the shower. My mind is preoccupied with the following thought when I'm in the shower, Remember, don't **** in the tub. Do not **** in the tub. Hence, I don't think about anything else but that.

I wonder what Freud would say about this. 😉

I just watched this really dumb show called "Invasion Iowa" with William Shatner. I was sort of excited about it because it is in a small town real near here, but it was just dumb. Not funny in the least.

At least tomorrow night I have Lost and Alias!!

I find it funny when I check my hotmail account (to which my SDN account is linked to) and I get these random emails from real Greek people asking me if I'm Greek. I guess Greek people really like to stick together. Greek people unite!

You will do no such thing.

Seinfeld is an awesome show!
You had better let me. I offered the Admins the opportunity to have my first child of their gender named after them if they made your name poo colored! If you turn to poo, you owe me so bad! I will pwn you poo boy!

My other preceptor is a Gen Surg/Trauma/ICU guy.

Scenes from the shift:

"Don't buy a car without looking up NHTSA and IIHS," he said. "It'll keep you alive longer, and give you less pain - both of which are important."

What is this crap about there not being free alcohol at pathology conventions? How can you all have conventions and not get trashed every night? What is the matter with you people?!?!?! 😕

I'm gonna go have fun at a pharm convention this weekend. Did you know pharmacists drink like fish? I'm pretty sure it's a licensing requirement in most states.

My day yesterday was not 15 hours after all. It was 18. :scared:

Yikes - you must be getting really tired!!! Hang in there!

Do you start blood bank tomorrow? I know you are not looking forward to it but maybe at least you won't have 18 hour days.

I would almost rather have the 18 hour days than having days where I sit on my ass and try to figure out someone's "unexpected antibody" profile. 😡

Don't. I have been thinking very hard about straight-track AP + two AP fellowships recently, but those thoughts are drowned out by LADoc00's voice.

Consider the carrot, the diamond, the glorious 600k/year! :meanie:

Two fellowships?? Do people do this?

Some people do even more than 2 fellowships. One resident in my program has done hemepath then surg path and next year is doing GI. Says he likes GI lymphoma.
