Have you tried rest and NSAIDs? 😛

They are going to hurt if you stand alot. That's a given. Every once in awhile my feet are really sore i'll take a pair of naproxen before work. It makes a huge difference.

Rest isn't really possible, but I am resting as much as possible. I don't take walks anymore. I take NSAIDs when the pain is really bad, but haven't taken them continuously yet.

If you sleep any way but on your back, you can also put a pillow under your feet when you sleep. The little bit of elevation with slightly bent knees will help with the AM balooning effect, if that is part of what is going on.

When you go out with indian people, it always seems like you go out for indian food. But why can't indian people go out with me to a polish restaurant?... snip... Double standard.
I overlooked Yet Another Yaah Vs. Indian Food Thread 🙄

No double standard.

This is how it works:

They picky eater. You picky eater too. There. Everybody happy.

And ne'er the twain shalt meet!

Yes but the difference is I am not allowed to criticize them for being a picky eater. Well, of course I'm allowed to, but you know what I mean.

Why do you worry so much about being polite? Is it really so much better to pretend you enjoy something you can't stand?

I just think he wants more Polish-ed Indians to hang out with 😛

I like more Pal-ished people.....not merely pole-ish.....So is Yaah a pal or just a pole?

3 hours ago Katrina was a cat 3 with 115 mph winds. Now it is a strong cat 4 with 145 mph winds. It is still forecast to hit New Orleans dead on. Yikes. 😱

If you didn't have enough reasons to leave New Orleans before, you certainly do now.

I hope they pick the drunk people up off the street because they will soon be under a few feet of water.

And banana, in regards to being polite, I find that being polite is a good way to live life. There is a difference between being polite and letting one take advantage of you, of course. I tend to live my life by being polite to people unless they have proven they don't deserve to be treated as such.

More than a few feet I think - more like 25 feet! It is now an extremely strong cat 5 with 175 mph winds. I do not even remember hearing about a hurricane with 175 mph winds.

From what I've seen on the news, there are still people there partying. Their thought is that New Orleans has managed to survive every other time. Although they apparently have places set up for people who 'can't' evacuate. I'm sorry, but my a$$ would be on a bicycle pedaling my way out of the city if I had to. There is NO fricking way I would stick around.

It can be bad to just go along and be polite. If someone is taking you somewhere to be nice and you really hate it, then you are undermining their intentions to show you a good time and being decietful by just going along. For example, I ate a crab cake at new year's eve dinner this year because it was ordered for me, even though I hate seafood. I felt really bad about pretending that I was not totally grossed out. And, most of the rest of the meal was spent trying not to puke it back up. In retrospect, I should have just said that I was not a fan of seafood and passed. A good host does not want you to be miserable.

It's sort of a moot point now, since I believe your lunch date was yesterday.

What possesses people to not evacuate during a hurricane, especially when they live in new orleans?

Fears of your house being burned/looted, etc, and not being around to do anything about it.. dubious, but that's how people often think in situations like this. Perhaps a more realistic fear is of not being 1st in line to start the insurance claim paperwork the day after.. Some people have no transportation or money to evacuate as well, but these are the exceptions and not the rule. And it would be remiss to not mention the people that say "I will never do anything TPTB want me to do, under any circumstances."

Yeah, that and the people who can't abandon their firearms.

I also wondered about people with pets. Obviously couldn't bring them into the superdome. And bringing them to other shelters of course you would immediately get protests from the allergic.

Yeah, well, the city and state sent buses to pick up people who couldn't leave, so that doesn't include everyone. Then there were people who just wouldn't leave because they thought they would be fine. Of course, New Orleans is like 40 feet below sea level, so it's kind of risky, to say the least.

Do you suppose the Tulane path residents are doing (shudder).. clinical medicine in such an emergency?? :scared:

I actually doubt it - when disasters happen there always seems to be an excess of volunteers, which is why they always say "give money" instead of trying to do anything else. Plus, all the EMTs and nurses, etc.

Change of topic!

How do you guys answer your pages?

(I've gotten so used to saying "Hi it's FirstName, I was paged?" that it never occurred to me to say "Dr. LastName speaking."

I usually teeter between the following four responses:

"Pathology. Delivery or pickup?"
"This is pathology, what do you want?"
"This is pathology. Speak."
"Pathology. Lay it on me."

deschutes said:
Cute. But I said "page", my boy, not "phone"!
When I get a page, I phone back the call-back number. That is when I proceed with the above responses. But maybe things work differently in Canada.

I answer with my name and add that I am the pathology resident. Although today I didn't answer any pages because unbeknownst to me my pager had died and I wasn't receiving any. Too bad I wasn't on call. Now I have a brand new pager which actually has a working light on it.

Are you still "ringing" people or have you moved on to simply "calling" them? 😛
Since when did I ever "ring" people? 😕

My background is also sufficiently varied that I have no idea which part of it your jibe is intending to make fun of...

People in other countries use "ring" as a verb in the place of "call on the phone." Guess you don't!

In england I might ring you up, but only if you are fit.

(grew up in manchester, england btw)

Ah yes, but as yaah probably knows, I've never set foot in Europe in my life. 😉

My theory is that the phrase "give you a ring/ring you up" etc. went out of fashion after phones went from shrill ringing to the beeps they more commonly make now.

I used to live in Quebec. This was a long time ago (like ten years if I think about it! Yikes!) But I seem to recall everybody saying "phone" instead of "call." Like, "Phone me when you get home, eh?"

Is that the power adapter for the voltage change?
No, my powerpack already comes with adaptor for 100V-240V, 50-60Hz. I just need to find something that will allow me to stick it into this:

I had a lovely case in point this morning where after multiple polite emails I got a result after sending in something slightly grittier.

Yes. I think it is always best to start with being polite. Unfortunately some people just don't respond to polite requests and then you have to get a little harsher. But you can't go wrong with starting out polite.

So how long are you going to be gone for?
From SDN or from the spot where I am sitting? 😉

Flying tomorrow, back on Thursday night. I should've just taken Friday off as well...

I think I'm shearing off all my neutrophils.

Maybe lunch will help.
