Random non-pathology and only peripherally related to pathology thread

I do not like coming into work at 6 am or 10 pm. I guess it depends on what I am doing, but on med school rotations anything before 8 and after 5 seems excessive. Unfortunately, I always come in well before 8 and leave after 5. 😡

With the wasabi and pickled ginger? Woah.

Sushi is great any time of day.

I had bulgogi for breakfast today. At least a pound. Top that!

I had a cookie. It was free. I only ate it because my attending said cookies weren't breakfast food. I am on gross and am worn out.

I am also getting really pissed off at all the people who think that a white coat makes me a information kiosk. They come up and say, do you know where this is and then when i tell them where to go, they say, no, i think it's the other way. Then why the **** did you ask me where to go, *****? 😡

Both cookies and bulgogi are outstanding choices for breakfast!

Pingu, I haven't even graduated yet, and already I have to preface things by saying "you know, I don't know everything related to medicine..." 🙄
I'm sure the white coat doesn't help!! 😉

I asked some woman at the hospital today where a certain department was. She replied with "Sorry, I don't work here." I wonder if she walks around in scrubs everywhere, or just the hospital.

Now I just heard that baby Federline's first name is London.

Same thing. Preston, London, Connor, Riley, Cannon, whatever. Still lame.

Beary how do you say your name? Like the animal Bear-ee or like the beverage BEER-ee?

Explain yourself now, woman!

Totally lame.

Like the animal bear-ee. You have asked me this before. 😛

What's especially lame is that whole drama with Spears weekend marriage to that guy from HS.

She got her lawyers involved, they had the marriage annulled, and the guy provided the papers with the most lurid details. Her kid is going to be in a world of hurt when the kids in his elementary school bring in print outs of those articles to tease him with.

Do you like bears or do you like berries?

I do like bears, but I don't think that's why I chose beary. I'm not sure why actually - it just popped into my head when I was trying to think of a name and I liked it. But maybe subliminally it's because I like bears. 🙂

I hate berries of all kinds.

Ok, you hate sushi and you hate berries of all kinds. So, what do you like??

Oh, I like lots and lots of things: pizza, chicken pot pies, candy, chips, sandwiches, soup, cookies, crackers, pasta, college football, northern lights, NASCAR, TV, computer games, my niece, lifting weights, cilia, thunderstorms, SDN, finishing another med school rotation, and so many more things... 😀

cilia, hm? I'll keep that in mind.

My Ph.D. research. 😉 I love those little things and miss them a lot.

When I graduated, some friends got me a cake with cilia decorations. Yes, I am a dork. 😳

That's a good list except for NASCAR. Bleck.

I have slowly but surely gotten sucked into NASCAR. Some friends of mine were big fans and I just started watching it casually with them, but now I can't miss a race. It is a really fun sport. And a long season - 36 races a year!

College football is still my first love in terms of sports but the season is so short!

I felt the same way until I got roped into going to a couple races in high school. It really is a lot more interesting once you realize that there is more to it than just going around in circles. (And how many other events let you bring in a cooler? 😎 ) That being said, I would still much rather hit up a good football or baseball game.

I just think how much fuel and environmental resources we could save if NASCAR was just eliminated. 😉 +pity+

Save the whales!

Save the whales!

i'm going to be hanging out with some path residents at the hospital lab in a couple of weeks to see if I really like path as a specialty.... if I do, i completely blame you yaah

I am sitting in an awesome little restaurant on the river just across the road from my house.

The coffee place next to this restaurant has WiFi.

Are they shooing me out for my blatant WiFi stealage? No. They asked me if I wanted dessert.

Apple empanadas with jalapeno ice cream 😉

oh c'mon. didn't you go to med school so that you could be a REAL doctor?

I used to have an ongoing "Save the whales" joke with one of my friends in college. We'd make fun of the crazy hippie people on campus. We'd e-mail each other soap operas involving other people that we knew, too.

Oh yeah. I saw a pathologist on the floor at work today. Well, actually he was at the counter, standing on the floor. I'm too drunk and lazy to start a thread about it. That's probably for the best.

My friend go offered a job as a karaoke host when we went out tonight. I am too chicken to do karaoke. 😳

Ok, just thought I would pass this along:

1. I found out that I passed CS today 😀

2. I took CK today as well 😴

Besides being overtired, I'm thrilled it's over. Now, if only I had an interview request (or two), the day would be perfect!

Now, where's that wine...?

wooooooooo hooooooooo
congratulations....and celebrations!

Nice to know you cleared step 2 cs. It gave me some bad sleepless nights too. So how did the step 2 ck go?

I d serve you wine/vodka/rum/beer if you came over...... 🙂

Why, thank you!

The test wasn't all too bad (I don't think; we'll see what I end up scoring). I feel like I did better than on Step 1. Who knows? At least it's OVER!! 🙂

I finished step 3 yesterday. Word to the wise: Study back pain and STDs. Seriously I think half of the questions on my test had to do with back pain, STDs, and kinds of anemia (usually iron deficiency in infants). There was even one super question of an STD with associated back pain.

The clinical scenarios where you have to order tests and diagnose were actually fairly easy as long as you don't get too cute or forget obvious things (which is hard when you've spent the year in path - remember those ABGs! and the Oxygen!).

I am on call tonight. Another platelet shortage but the Gods have blessed us with an early delivery of PRODUCT tonight. So platelets for all!

congrats yaah! :hardy:

when do you find out the results?

I think congratulations are in order 🙂

What do you mean, "too cute"? 😕

Out-thinking the algorithms and not going with what you should be doing. Like there were a couple of cases where I thought I knew what was going on, only I didn't because the patient didn't immediately get better. That's alright though, that MI didn't kill her.

Weirdest case: a middle aged woman, recently divorced, with fatigue and cough.

Ending dx: AIDS with a CD-4 count <50, and B cell lymphoma in the mediastinum and neck. I sniffed that one out, since as a pathologist I was looking for any case where I could ask for a biopsy. And this was the only one, so I went and biopsied the "mildly enlarged lymph nodes"

I am really excited about it!

TV rots the mind, imo.

Oog. Step 3. I already dread it. I'm going to try and take it as soon as possible!

Congratulations, yaah! 🙂
