If any more of you come down with something I may be forced to take the advice of those around me and seek training in **gasp** human medicine.

A training collar. She's scared of people and growls. It used to be louder but is quiet now and she stops when I tell her to. But she has never shown any sign at all about wanting to nip or bite. Nothing.

sounds like you are already working on it. Just keep doing that and prove her wrong. We know you can.

Frustration level with the roommate has reached an all-time high. Roommate woke me up (the night before our phys midterm) by ringing the doorbell every second while simultaneously pounding on the door because they didn't have their key. Where is the house key? With the mechanic while their car is being repaired :smack: Why couldn't a normal knock and ringing the bell once, then repeating a minute later more aggressively if I didn't answer be sufficient? I have no clue. :bang:The cats were stressed by the commotion and I was obviously frustrated. I open the door and they have a stupid grin on their face "Oh sorry haha did I wake you?". I answered yes and slammed the door in their face. I went down to my room, where I hear a phone call to their mom. "Ky is p***ed at me hahaha...Why? Because I woke her up hahahaha".

:boom: I need to move out ASAP.

She's considered my co-raiser and has her every weekend because of my job. I asked for a "buddy" because I can decide when that person would have her and when I would keep her. With the girl being my "co-raiser," we are pretty much "on the same level." Not sure how to say that. We both make decisions etc. Which I didn't want. But they made her a co-raiser anyways.

Apparently she does act aggressive on weekends with her. And there's other problems, too. And she started acting on her prey drive because she lets her run around freely and chase stuff. She didn't have that before. Ugh.

I think I'm gonna really have to talk to someone and stop this. I really don't like this. I already have something set up while I'm at work, so that wouldn't be a problem.

The problem is that this girl is a coordinator, so she does dog training and is considered good with shepherds. Not with mine it seems.

This is really frustrating me. I'm putting so much time and patience into her and it all seems to be for nothing.

"Training collar" meaning choke or prong collar? I love the organization but hate how they train their dogs 🙁 Not a jab against you, just their methods.

I *think* prong. I really like some of their methods but not others. And I also don't like how easy it apparently is to become a coordinator. There are some people that I think are great people but shouldn't have that responsibility..

Allow me to add to this list:

Dyachei's wrist
Abney's ankle
DVMD's big ole mess
Cowgirl's allergies
PP's ankle
Zany's knee

Its been bugging me for years, I've had two knee surgeries, was a college varsity athlete and the trainers there to this day STILL have NO idea what's wrong with it...chronic tendonitis they said...and now its bugging me a lot. We have to sit for so long in lecture and in lab that it hurts more often than normal...

What organization is this? The organizations I know that raise puppies for disabled people immediately exclude any animal with signs of poor impulse control (especially if trained otherwise) and aggression. Defecation "on-duty" is grounds for expulsion, much less aggressive behavior.

Also, if the animal is displaying aggressive behavior, there is usually a lead coordinater who is very knowledgeable in animal behavior and who will assess: 1) what external stimuli are triggering the aggressive episodes 2) what the handler is doing correctly/incorrectly to mitigate the situation 3) how to modify the animal's behavior via learning theory. Worse comes to worst, at least the triggers can be identified and the animal's behavior can be modified before s/he is adopted out to a family.

I'd rather not say who it is as I have to edit my posts anyways. I talked way too much last night and we're not supposed to publicly talk about the negative things of the dogs we're raising.

She's scared of people. She was overwhelmed in her first college class with 300 people and is now nervous. There is no sign of her ever wanting to bite someone though. She pushes against me and growls sometimes like she just wants to say "don't touch me." But if people do touch her, she loves it. I've slowly worked on it with her and it's mostly gone already, but apparently that's not fast enough. I just don't think that harsher corrections will do the trick for her. I want her to stop because she trusts people not because she knows she will be corrected if she does it.

silly whine, but the power here had some issues yesterday (meh oh well) but when this happens, the AC unit resets to off when the power returns. this wasn't a big deal until a few weeks ago because we used to be able to just open the closet door and reset it ourselves. unfortunately, some brilliant university offical decided that they'd prefer students didn't "tamper" with the units so they put locks on the doors and hold the key. so now we get to enjoy the "lovely" tropical weather indoors. fun times. *grumble* 😡 hopefully it'll get fixed in the next couple of days (i am at least grateful that it doesn't take as long to get stuff done here as it does at DVMD's place!!)

we may or may not have spent over an hour researching lock picking techniques yesterday only to learn that the 3 of us would really suck at being criminals

ex boyfriend texted me last night asking if we could meet up sometime this week and talk... we work together and he's currently dating another girl that works with us, so I'm guessing it's going to be about that... I just hope I have the lady balls to say what I'm really feeling instead of just being all "ohh, its totally fine!". I guess we'll see what happens 😕

It's not a door you can credit card open? Almost all the "off limits" doors at my undergrad were laughably easy to break into.

nope, the lock seems to be installed backwards to normal locks making it impossible to slide anything into it. we tried (and a friend who claimed to be much better did too) with no luck.

right now we have bobby pins and paper clips that have been molded by a keychain multi-tool and pocket knife  we just kind of suck

aww sad pandas. Can't say it's too horrible to not be able to lockpick things, though!

I thought our Parasitology section was really interesting, but the lecturers put me to sleep. Horrible. Half the class stopped coming. 😴

How do you not know?! We found out within the hour when we put in an offer on both our houses.

well couple of reasons. It's a short sale, so it always takes longer. Their realtor stalled for whatever reason in handing the offer to the bank. So the bank has had the offer for like 2.5 months. We know they've done the appraisal, we're just waiting on the final word.

Feeling a little stressed this week ... My husband and I are moving into this great house this weekend and already signed the lease. The landlord and I are doing a walk-through tomorrow and she wants to meet our dogs then. I told her they are both Labs but one is slightly mixed. She made a few comments to me insinuating she doesn't like mixed breed dogs so I'm a bit nervous for the meeting since she thinks they're both purebred.

How mix-y do you guys thing he looks? Any guesses on what he's mixed with? Personally I think Pit but one of the vets I work with said to say Great Dane (though I don't think he's got the height)

which one is he? the black one? The face is a little different, but not too much so.

Ugh. That's why we tried to avoid short sales.

right, but we gave ourselves plenty of time...if their realtor had submitted in July like we wanted instead of August. The thing is, the bank is paying people to deal with this at this point, so it shouldn't be much longer. I just need to know how many months we'll be paying super high rent.

I hope it won't take too much longer. 🙁

Yes, the black one. He looks very Labby but his features aren't as soft as my chocolate Lab's (also in the picture) and he has the "kinked" ears ha ha

Sooo..... I just realized this will be my first Christmas waking up alone. Ever.

I had my family, then I was a live in nanny, then my ex. This kinda sucks....

What about staying the night at a friend's house?

I might have the same thing. I'm hoping the bf will be back in the country by then, but I don't want to count on it. 🙁 And I have to work the whole week (including Christmas), so I can't really go to someone else's house either. 🙁

Kinda hopes this girl flunks out of vet school :/

Well... I guess I shouldn't wish ill on others. Apparently my bull dog roommate (she was huge, aggressive and had a stuck up look on her face) ended up in a psych ward for 6 months after I left. On the plus side, I saw her at Starbucks and she acted like I didn't exist.

I went to the RA on her once. She invited her friend over, tore all of he decorations in the common areas and had a swear fest over someone having the nerve to go to the RA on her. It was pretty scary. I hate it when people bitch about you where you can clearly hear it.

Abs, that sucks. I wish you could come hang out with me.

I am working Christmas Eve AND Christmas Day. Guess who is going to work at 5 am so she can get home at a good time? This girl.

Someone that knew dog breeds would be able to say not purebred but honestly he looks pretty close. If she mentions it just fib and say as far as you know, both of his parents are Labs and he must have gotten a wonky ear gene somewhere back in the generations. If she's going to be such a witch about your dog not being ~*~purebred~*~ she deserves the white lie.

Just got back from a review where I was told that three questions I got wrong were because of semantics, not my understanding of the content. While that's awesome for actually being a vet, my anatomy grade could use the points... 🙁 Such a stupid test. We had a nerve pinned that had red latex along it's length, apparently the thoracic limb doesn't count as a body "region," and I'm really freaking frustrated because I had a wonderful understanding of the material and my grade absolutely does not show that.

I also have a huge (42% of my grade) test tomorrow and I'm feeling a bit defeated.

We had this issue with our last anatomy test. It was pretty bad. The way things were pinned and the questions that were asked (wording) were just ridiculous. When the entire class "misidentifies" something and all put the same answer... maybe you pinned something off 🙄.
I don't like when people complain about things and blame it on professors and what not, but our professor was out of town and they had a guy who can't even identify a colon, make our exam :uhno: So ultimately, even if you knew every single thing and had a perfect grasp on anatomy, you couldn't have gotten things correct. Our other professor had to add 3-5 additional acceptable answers to the answer key on several questions bc it was just that bad. One question had 9 acceptable answers :uhno: They never accept more than one. One question even asked you to chose between two things, neither of which were the right answer  A lot of people (especially gunners) went OFF about it and it really annoyed me. There are ways to approach your professor to ask about a few questions without him having to be on the defensive right away. :annoyed: Have some respect. No one wants to help a disrespectful student. (this isn't meant toward you Trilt, just had a tangent from reading your post :meanie:)

I don't know how to get started on this grant proposal I have to write for my bio lab. I hate that it's a writing intensive lab. D:

👍 you are totally right!

I have never, ever understood this or what possesses people to act that way, especially towards someone with direct authority/influence over you. Sometime you draw the short straw and life isn't fair, but if you're going to get any favors acting like a tool isn't the way to do it. A few weeks ago in anatomy a student confronted the professor as soon as we got our exams handed back because she didn't get a couple points on the exam; not for an incorrect answer, but the girl didn't follow some directions that were written right at the top on the exam page. So not only was it quite clearly her mistake, she was very rude to the professor and this was right in the middle of the anatomy lab with everyone around to watch. To cut to the chase, it ended with no points returned to that student and the prof assuring her that she will be remembered and her exams graded extra carefully from now on. Some people...
