If you're looking for a place for August I've found that it's a bit too early right now for people to take you seriously. But I feel your pain.

I've found quite a few places that are already available for august but ended up being out of my price range. Just sucks that it's so time consuming.

I do like my currently place though, so not the end of the world if I end up staying there.

I'm wading into the apartment hunting too. My dilemma is that I'm going to be home for a month after school ends and don't want to pay an extra month of rent, but I'm worried about finding something quickly when I get back. Ugh.

If you get stuck and need a little extra time when you get back, we're on LA med together and you're welcome to crash at my place.

I'll be back in Halifax on May 4th so you could always stay at my place until you find a new apartment. You have options, don't worry 🙂

long story short, we just had 3 extremely drunk people enter our apartment (we were on the porch talking to a neighbor and one girl asked if she could use our bathroom...) and steal cupcakes off our counter and eat them. 8 of them. they also smeared frosting everywhere. WHO DOES THAT!!! how do you just enter a strangers home and steal their food without asking?! so very mad. glad they stole extra cupcakes (the 30 exquisitely decorated ones were used this morning), but i am shocked. lesson learned? geez. 😡

I got home from my Sunday-Thursday trip and found my roomie's ferret stuck in one of her fabric tubes. Covered in **** and pee, skin tented indefinitely from dehydration. She'd lost over a quarter of her body weight - roomie (who was supposed to be watching them...) didn't know when she last saw her or how long she had been there.

Got lots of carnivore care and water and she's doing well now, but if it had happened earlier in the week she would be dead. If it were one of my ferrets I would just be FURIOUS right now, but as of now I'm just moderately angry that she didn't notice. And I feel bad for poor little Nori, that must have been horrible. 🙁

WHAT. 😡 how do you not look at your pet at least once a day?!

This! ^^
If I don't see my girls multiple times a day, I seek them out. How do you go for DAYS without seeing them and don't think twice about it?!
Does she not feed her daily or clean her box?! "huh, the same food from yesterday is still there and the box is still clean. And what is that SMELL? Wut?" !!!!!!

Even though it isn't my pet, I'd still be furious at my roommate.

We have four ferrets, so they have lots of food and missing one's worth of poop isn't necessarily noticeable... but she didn't do anything with their litterboxes while I was gone, either, which is another, lesser annoyance. :lame:

They have a huge cage and half my kitchen that is blocked off as theirs, so not seeing her for a day is not really super unreasonable - this particular ferret loves tubes and digging, doesn't really ask for attention too often. I personally went searching for her because i didn't see her that Thursday night when I got back until Friday afternoon, so it wasn't crazy... What was a bit crazy to me was that she couldn't remember the last time she had seen her, which means she probably just didn't pay attention to them at all while I was gone. 👎

Yeah. 🙁 Being that dehydrated sounds like more than just 24 hrs. Really glad she'll be ok!

Freaking out about possibly going to Ross University, im still on the waiting list for Cornell and hoping to get in there, but I just got accepted into Ross U. and have know idea what to do. I'm freaking about the 3 semesters a year w/o breaks. I'm from NJ so I dont have an instate vet school so I know I'll have to pay alot either way. Overall I feel like i just need to scream into a pillow!

Which semester did you get accepted for? Is it possible you could request delaying a semester at Ross in case Cornell comes through? I didn't apply there but I have heard they are somewhat flexible on that... a friend of mine got accepted as well.

To my sort-of SO (different rant entirely): I have been telling you to get your dog in for a dental for 3 years. Do not ask me "why does it cost so much". You know enough about vet med through me to be able to answer that yourself. Sorry that in the time from when I made the estimate 3 years ago to now the price jumped about $250. It has nothing to do with the fact that the state of your dog's mouth has worsened now requiring multiple extractions and everything to do with the money grubbing vets. Thanks for subtly bashing (in a backasswards way) the profession that I'm paying hundreds of thousands of dollars of money that isn't even mine to be a part of. Also, I told you every February to make an appointment to get the dental health month discount on top of my employee credit, so sorrynotsorry.

I've got a pre-vet friend who somewhat regularly bitches about the cost of vet care. I'm like... do you realize that you're complaining about the field that you hope to get paid in? Eight years of education, ya know?

Organic Chemistry. I know I'm supposed to loooove this class, but I am having anxiety attacks & nonstop tachycardia about it. I really want to do well but this subject makes me feel so dumb. This semester is grinding me down; I've never before tried really hard at something and just failed despite my best efforts. 😢 :bang: :scared:

Who told you that you were supposed to loooooove it? I've heard some people say they love it but I've also heard lots of people (myself included) absolutely curse it.

Kind of in the same boat, I was accepted to both SGU and Ross, and I'm on the waitlists for three schools in the US. Putting down a deposit at SGU (my grandpa kindly gave me the money for it so that if I end up not going for whatever reason it isn't a loss to me) while hoping to get off a waitlist. *sigh

Mostly other pre-vet/pre-med students at my university. They told me this class would be great! Crazy.

I liked it. 🙂 it's like math for me.

But almost everyone I know hated it.

Organic is hard. I initially really really despised Orgo because I simply didn't know how to go about it. How do you study for it? Have you looked at the book called "Organic Chemistry as a second language?"

I found that it really helped me to go over the notes very thoroughly, and I did practice problem after practice problem after practice problem. I made sure I knew why I was doing a problem or mechanism, and if I got an answer wrong I figured out what I did wrong, and I made sure to go through every single step, as tedious as it was. Orgo is memorization to a point, but you have to know how to work the problems as well. It's definitely a hard class, especially if you have bad luck and get a bad professor.

Don't worry though, it is doable (even if you feel like you are pulling your hair out in frustration).

I tried every conceivable way to study for O Chem and it just wouldn't stick. I hated every single second of that class and if it hadn't been for my lab mark and a few online quizzes, I probably would have failed.

Ditto. I got the required C- in both semesters and never looked back. Our labs were graded separately though, I'd have done a lot better if they were combined with the lecture component. Somehow I managed to get A's in lab - which is hilarious because I completely disregarded the lab instructions and threw everything together as fast as I could, turned in my product, and booked it out of there. The professor called me Speedy because I was always the first to leave. "Heat to 145 degrees" meant I'd crank it up to 400 or so...I thought for sure my sand bath was going to turn to glass a few times

Haha sounds similar to my experience - but somehow my lab partner and I were the only ones in our lab group to ever have our product turn out the way it was supposed to, even though both of us were utterly clueless! All the other people in our lab section would come over and ask what we did and we would just look puzzled and shrug... but whatever, it worked!

the only thing i learned in ochem was why chocolate turns splotchy white

Thanks. 🙂 My main issue is that I'm a single parent, so finding time to work on practice problems can be very difficult some weeks. I've definitely found that going step-by-step is the key to deeper understanding, I just feel like I'm constantly in a time crunch. I have worked through a book called "Pushing Electrons," but that only helped for the first 1/3 of the course at best; we're already way past that material! I will see if any libraries on campus have the book you recommended!

ETA: I do have a molecule model kit and I've started using it quite a bit; that R/S thing is hard without a 3D object to manipulate!

My longterm boyfriend just accepted a job in Texas and I'm going to be in Philly for the next four years :bang:

I nearly failed orgo the first time and had to re-take. I got "Organic Chemistry as a Second Language" (per advice from here!) and it was so helpful. I also just did problems so much (same problem at least three times) that I'd dream about mechanisms. Worked enough to swing a B!

It's tough, but do-able. I know we talk about LDR on this forum a lot, but if you ever want advice or just to vent, feel free to PM me 🙂

Sorry, I know first hand that stinks! I'm at Ohio State and my fiance is currently working in Texas. He's been able to fly up for a few days at a time when he has time off, so its been nice to see him every once in a while. Just have to figure out how to make it work. If theres a will, theres a way!

I tried "Pushing Electrons" as well, but for my class at least it wasn't too helpful.

I understand on the time crunch... there never is enough time in the day to get everything done, which really stinks when you have a difficult class like Orgo. One thing I forgot to mention that might be helpful is a study tool that I use all the time: a whiteboard. Do you happen to have one? I have one slightly larger than my lap and I love love mine, and it tremendously helped me with Orgo (and all of my other classes for that matter). For instance, in my notes there might be a molecule or mechanism drawn out (Such as E2), and I would replicate it on my whiteboard. This would help me visualize the steps and see where the electrons are going. Then I would do it again without looking a few times, which would commit the mechanism to memory. I would also repeat my practice problems on here, which used a lot less paper and seemed to "stick" in my head a lot better than using paper. I would definitely recommend getting one!

I had to retake both semesters of Organic chemistry, for whatever reason it was incredibly difficult for me, I think even more so than for most people. We also had a notoriously difficult professor. It actually delayed my graduation by a few months, so believe me I feel your pain! I ended up taking it in the summer which worked much better because that way spending all my time on O-Chem didn't affect my grades in all of my other classes. The Khan academy online has some very helpful free videos for review, especially for the first semester. It even has spots for you to pause the video and try practice problems yourself and then it works through them. https://www.khanacademy.org/science/organic-chemistry

I was right on time to leave this morning to go to the shelter I volunteer at, but I can't find my ID. It's my bus pass and my apartment key card. I just spent an hour looking for it. I know it's in the apartment somewhere because I used it to get in last night, but I can't find the stupid thing. So now I'm sitting here hoping I'll magically remember where I put it even though I know I won't. I'll have to pay $20 for a new one (for the second time this year), and I'll probably find it a day later. 😡

Ouch, that's rough. I would be super not pleased with that evaluator.
I didn't ask who it was, I just accept the blame for not specifically stating "Please do not use any school names in your letter." I thought that would have been kind of an assumed condition of writing a letter of recommendation...oh well. I got great advice! NOW TO FIND A LA VET WHO WON'T IGNORE MY CALLS AND E-MAILS!

While I'm definitely enjoying 2 days off, making up all these missed lectures/labs/exams/quizzes is becoming a PITA.

My cousin just told me that her neighbor who breeds bull dogs did an at home C section on one of his dogs earlier this week, and I kinda wanna throw something & scream in anger right now... except I'm sitting in class. How do all those despicable breeders so often get away with all the crap that they do to animals? What the hell makes them think that it's okay to do freaking surgery on an animal? Don't know if he had any sort of anesthesia, but if he did, that's a bit shady in and of itself.

I was creeping on you and remembered an article I read yesterday (probably from here http://www.baynews9.com/content/new...lice_tampa_woman_p.html#.UynSaI76RBM.facebook) but you should have your cousin report them. It's really just not okay...

Yeah I read that one, which is one of the reasons I got extra mad... Makes me wonder how many people out there are doing this kind of crap.

Sadly probably far more than we hear about. Because as far as the backyard breeder is concerned, as long as they get sale-quality live puppies out of it, what happens to the mother is no big deal.
