This is why I'm very appreciative for my friends from the MPH program. It's nice having some folks who aren't Pre-Vet or vet students who just want to do weird things like go to trivia or hang out at panels about the EPA

I know a few of the schools have grad student groups on Facebook that plan events together and then there is actually a pretty sizable group of people that use MeetUp and call themselves something like Professionals under 30 or Under 30 MeetUp group and they plan hiking and camping and bowling and movies and coffee... I have known 2 people that organized events for a part time job for them and even if you are just wandering through a region of the country, you are welcome to join events.

It might be worth a Friday night...

I didn't specifically ask if every participating Banfield made their offers already, but she definitely said all selections have already been notified and that as those students say yes/no, offers may be extended to waitlisted applicants. At this stage many students have accepted their offers, too. Students started hearing back as of almost 3 weeks ago
 
This was during grad school for me. We had mandatory talks and conferences that were so annoying but we went because mandatory. However, we never went for those that weren't till...

Professor: So this Thursday, Dr xyz will be here to give a talk. As you know it is not mandatory, so if you will attend, speak up so I can write your name down
Class: dead silence.
Professor: No one?
Class: No comment.
Professor: I will be giving 2 extra marks to anyone who shows up.
Class: One or two people speak up saying they'd attend
Professor: I should probably also mention we will have pizza, sandwiches, a few desserts, cookies and some-
Class: What time? Is it okay if we come early? Do we eat before or after the talk? What kinds of pizza?

From that day onward, we had free food for every non-mandatory talk/conference and we went for them all, (sometimes even when we didn't have classes that day, we'd come from home for the conference just for the food and sometimes drinks at the bar in the school) in addition to the foodless mandatory ones lol

I usually just eat then use the bathroom and forget to come back

Is it weird that I think the craziest part of all this is that so many people believe that lemons make your body less acidic? I guess the rest is objectively crazier, but I'm surprised by how often I see people (often ones who should really know better) claim that lemons make your body alkaline.

Also "with tiny hairs protruding from their skin"- uh oh, I have that! I must have chemtrail disease! Or I'm a mammal. It's definitely one or the other.

Unfortunately, the anti-intellectual movement is ever so popular these days. :bang: My husband's family is all about this kind of stuff, and every time we try to explain the bullcrap behind any of their ideas (like lemons make the body more alkaline...I feel you @TrashPanda), we are met with that we are liberals or plain wrong. Ok then, don't listen to two chemists...makes so much sense. :uhno::wtf:

What I love about this is that a decent chunk of it is actually good health advice (don't smoke, exercise more often, etc), just not for any of the reasons they've listed. 😛
 
My neighbor is getting new siding. The construction workers have been blasting what sounds like a Mariachi-polka music blend all day every day this week. I'm not sure what's worse, the fact that I'm supposed to be studying but I don't want to drive up to school, or the fact that this music is making me crave Mexican food.
 
Sometimes I just want to know where all that tuition money I pay actually goes...because it seems like most departments here could use more funding. But it also seems like they should be getting it based on how much us out of staters pay. So...where is the money??

On a related note, I absolutely cannot stand it when consumer product goods say "contains no chemicals!" or some crap like that. And when *people* say they don't like to give their pets meds because they "don't give their pets chemicals", it makes me want to pull the old "watch out - I heard there's dihydrogen monoxide in your drinking water" thing.

(And Snowy, just wanted to say I miss your humorous voice of reason in WW - please come back next game! kthxbye)

Oh man don't get me started on the chemical rant :laugh: That is way to real for me right now as a couple of fb essential oil fanatic friends keep claiming theirs oils are made without chemicals. Like wow 😱 I guess that "fire breath" is a mixture of muons and electrons?? Haha

(And aww that made me so happy Pippy. Definitely miss WW, but need to get ma grades up if I want a chance at vet school 😛)

I would like to know the same thing. My undergrad provided a breakdown of where our tuition dollars went and I missed that. We pay an exorbitant amount at our school and I'd like to know where it goes. The Dean made a comment a few years ago about them starting a shelter medicine certificate program, which I think is a great idea, and his comment was "Don't worry, your tuition isn't going there!' Big sigh... I would be totally fine with the money going there as opposed to not knowing at all.

One school I was accepted to said they're raising tuition to be more in line with other schools' OOS tuition and to hopefully give students more scholarship money in future years. Especially that first part really, really rubbed me the wrong way. They could have at least found a nicer way to say it.

From what I've been told, it's largely the same for ISU... a lot of what we pay goes to stuff on main campus that the majority of vet students never use since the vet med building is pretty isolated and away from everything else.

Accidental honesty. Someone should remind that school of their words every time they pretend to give a **** about student debt.

My sinuses are just swollen. I took my zyrtec this morning but didn't take a bendaryl last night. My allergiest doesn't want me to take any pill with decongestants but I'm one of the few people that gets a reation to the nasal sprays where I feel like I have the flu so no relief on that end.

I wish I could settle somehwere so I can start with allergy shots but the pollen is different everywhere so I should wait until I have a job and plan on living somehwere for more than 4ish years 🙁

Why don't they want you to take decongestants? Decongestants are life for me and I 15/10 would die without them because I get so congested. My sinuses haven't gotten suuuuuper bad yet, but they will within the next two days and then it'll be hell week. Hopefully minus a sinus infection, but most likely will get one. This happens twice a year for me and it's greeeeeaaaaattttt.....
I reallllly should do allergy shots but I am dragging my feet about it because 1. Scratch test and 2. Shots.

Something about how it constructs the blood vessels but doesn't truest alleviate the problem. This was 3 years ago and I don't really remember the specifics

Big goofy lab. Stupidest and happiest dog I have ever met; we all loved him. You couldn't not smile when you saw him.

Owners are super great too, so they did everything for him.
 
When the BF's internet sucks and you can barely get SDN to work while he milks his dairy cows...good thing I didn't plan on going online for too much tonight
 
My puppy has been itching all. day. long.
I am barely over the worst stomach flu I've had since I was a kid. Keeping down soup and tea today, which is progress. Needless to say, I don't feel like driving anywhere. And being as I don't tolerate antihistamines, at all, there is not a single benadryl to be found anywhere in this house. Poor pup. I feel bad but I'm seriously about to slip her some sedatives so I can get some sleep...
