New laptop and it's bugging already? Yikes. Have you talked to the place you got it from?

For the ports, you can pick up a USB hub reasonably cheap. I have one because I just have more stuff than ports. If you're using a mouse anyway, which not just disable the touchpad? There's a setting on mine that turns off the touchpad while you're typing.

I have a year warranty on it. I'll think about taking it in next time I'm home. If I lose my laptop for a couple of days while I'm away at school, it will drive me a little crazy... I use for my schoolwork and I use it to watch tv on.

I bought it less than a month ago. It was a cheap laptop... because I'm cheap.

And ooo... it would be soo much less annoying if I can figure out how to turn the track pad off while typing 🙂

Cheap shouldn't mean that it stops functioning within 30 days.

Are you running Windows? I've got Vista, but it shouldn't be too different on any Windows system. Go to Control Panel -> Mouse -> Tapping -> Check "Tap off while typing".

I was barfed on by toddlers last night. And then inadvertently swapped Sprites with their mom. I have a feeling it's gonna be a fun week for yours truly, haha.

😱

a semi-rant i guess. so i spent the entire winter break surrounded by babies and toddlers, and it seems like everyone i know is poppin out babies like it's going out of fashion. most notably, i spent pretty much 2 whole weeks cooing my 3 month old nephew who is the most adorable thing ever (he loves it when i moo like a cow in his face!).

on my flight back to the states with my bf, i had this dream. it seemed like i had popped out 2 babies during my layover (one looked about 3 mos, and the other a newborn)... and we were so happy with them that i was like "let's make love in that room over there so we can have a third one before takeoff! my younger sister can guard the door!" and off we went 😕😕😕. then i woke up to realize that that girl sitting next to me had a massive nose bleed, and my bf was frantically asking me to find some kleenex.

oh man, is this a glimpse for what's to come in the next however many years until it's actually feasible for me to start a family??? everyone i know outside of vet school is going to be so uber happy with their little infants and toddlers, their spouses, and their perfect little house with the white picket fence... while i'm studying away wondering how many times a year i'll even be able to see my bf? i mean, attending vet school is still a huge dream come true for me, but saying goodbye to my bf this morning was really really tough

Or just ignore the dr and only wear contacts all day every day forever.
I haven't touched glasses since I got contacts 6 years ago and don't plan on it. Waiting for them to make better Lasik for people with astigmatism (and of course to have more money!)
👍 That's how I've been for at least 4 years if not more. Didn't see the need to mention that to the eye doctor. I love waking up and seeing and not stumbling around cause I can't. So, as long as there aren't major issues with wearing contacts 24/7 (such as I'll eventually lose my sight), I'm prolly going to keep doing it. It's a bad habit I was going to attempt to break since I've gone without contacts for almost a week (and it's been the longest week of my life!).

My vision worsened a little bit more, and now has been stable for about 8 years (surgery was 11 years ago).

During almost every eye check-up I have had since then, a different doc has commented that the surgery was really well-done, so it just seems I am destined not to have completely "normal" vision.

At the beginning I was really disappointed to have had an unsuccessful surgery but I got over it. Also my vision is WAAAAAY better than it used to be so I do get away without glasses for many things.

For what it is worth, my wife got the sx at the same time. She had completely corrected vision with no problems. But now her vision is starting to deteriorate ever so slightly, so it is definitely not a lifetime correction!

Sorry about the bout of bad luck!! 🙁 Maybe I will consider it. since I've been glasses-ed for about a week now, I'd love to not have to rely on them or contacts. But, I'm just as happy with contacts 24/7 (even though my corneas prolly hate me )

Ugh. Classes start again on Tuesday, and I'm only taking one science class this semester (developmental bio) which isn't even going to be fun

Sorry NStarz! I kinda share the feeling of lack of bio classes: I'm taking devo as well & molecular (and the rest are humanities ). But, we can maybe gripe about devo together (or you can teach me 😉)

Boohiss laptops! I had a nightmare with mine starting this summer & caved into buying a new one (and still have 2 broken ones...). It's a dell that is so-so and is Windows 7. Those computer companies get you...you can't live with your laptop, but you can't live without it! Send it back since it's under warranty? (even though it's hugely inconvenient!)

Mini rant of the past hour: First, my allergies are going a wee bit crazy so I stuff a tissue up my nose (It stops the drip!) but my family laughs at me ridiculously for it. Second and worse: my room is overwhelmed with stinkbugs! I can't take it!! It's been like this since I've been home from break (like over a month) and I am terrified of bugs (along with car accidents). I'm the type that screams until someone else kills it (think of the new mentos commercial with the spider - it's hilarious!). So, I hear the damned things in my sleep & pull the covers over my head. But, as I'm trying to pack for school, I was setting my clothes out but I do not want dead (or live!) bugs in my stuff. HELP! If anyone has advice on how to get rid of the buggers or ease my fear, I'd appreciate it. Until then, I've moved myself from my immensely comfortable bed to a not-so comfortable room downstairs on a futon. *sigh*

Sincerely,
:help:+pissed+:help:

Being out of town for a week really threw a wrench into my PEI stuff. I meant to send my transcripts before I left and when I never got them (flipping registrar's office..) I forgot. So I had another copy sent to my parents and they overnighted it for me. Whew.

But, I just realized I never sent my semester schedule confirmation! And today's a holiday so I won't be able to send it until tomorrow :bang: I really hope this doesn't cause problems.

Have any Missouri applicants heard anything?? The last post I have seen was on January 6th (11 days ago) on the Mizzou applicants c/o 2015 thread. Unless I'm missing another titled thread. I wish I would hear "any" news about them right now.............:shrug:

Assuming you are in state, it will be a while until you hear about interviewing, at least until February. In the meantime, I'd just be sure they have all the transcripts and LORs.

If you are out of state, it's a different story.

Could you share the different story please? I am OOS

Interviews finished yesterday. Fall transcripts are due by February 1st, and you will be notified of decisions once all applicants have submitted fall transcripts. Theoretically that could be tomorrow, but will more likely be mid February.

Could you share the different story please? I am OOS

I believe most OOSers have either been invited to interview (and interviewed?) or rejected at this point... but there was some mention of an interview "waiting pool" so I don't know if that still exists. I got my rejection via snail mail a few weeks ago. If you haven't heard anything at this point, I don't think it would be out of line to call under the guise of just making sure they had everything they needed since you hadn't heard anything. At which point they may divulge more info (on, say, that interview waiting pool or a rejection letter that you should have gotten but got lost... hopefully not the latter!). Good luck!

On an earlier page, I had mentioned the craziness of my roommate and her poor care of her kitten. This kitten was recently spayed and will have to go back to the vet to get her stitches taken out in 10-14 days. My roommate doesn't want to drive back there (it's 30 minutes away) and has came up with this solution....she's in nursing school and said they will be learning how to take sutures out in the next or so. So, in her words, "I can just practice removing them from Mew!"

Removing sutures is not a big deal if they are ready to come out. Just clean area with alcohol, snip and tug, Vwiola!

But I suppose this is the rant thread....proceed.

Dear Menu Foods: I hate you. I hate you so very, very much. That is all. 😡

(Backstory: One of my cats was poisoned two days before the 2007 recall. He went into ARF the day the story broke. Despite his initial lack of response to treatment, we managed to get everything back into the normal range. Now his creatinine is beginning to rise. It's entered into the realm of "barely WNL". And... while everyone else is attempting to put a positive spin on this, I know what it means. And it isn't good. He'll be eight sometime this spring.)

If you'd like to see more ranting, ask me who still hasn't seen a dime of reimbursement from their greedy asses.

:wtf:

my friend's cat actually died from it....unfortunately, they didn't take him in to the vet soon enough tp even attempt treatment...

I'm sorry for your kitty! I hope he'll stay WNL for as long as possible!

So much for my day off and the wonderful summer weather outside. I've been on and off queasy and lightheaded and painful the last week or so. I woke up this morning feverish and can't hold anything down. (And no, there is absolutely no way I'm pregnant!) Going to try a little bit of toast right now, but this just isn't fun. 🙁

Along with the raves today, I have a rant.

I do not want to sit for the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering). My idea of a fun afternoon is not sitting for an 8 hour exam geared toward something I have no interest in. Here's to not studying at all for the thing! However, if I happen to pass, my school will reimburse me, so I'm still going to try the day of.

Thanks! I'm sorry about your friend's cat. 🙁

Tyson was incredibly fortunate (all things considered). The stuff that got him was purchased as a "treat", so he only ate a few pouches and probably didn't experience the same degree of injury as pets who'd been subsisting on tainted food.

I was also working in a cat-specific clinic at the time, and we had mass quantities of elderly patients with renal issues. I was so accustomed to seeing kidney disease in cats at that point that the moment he started having problems, I knew we weren't just dealing with a GI thing.

:xf: for his recheck in two months. I think I'm going to throw him back on the "Catkins" (wet food only) diet and see if anything improves with better hydration.

Tried to send another transcript + spring registration to AVC today. Filled out paperwork, brought to post office worker lady. Tell her I want the fastest one. She proceeds to start doing the 3-5 day one. Repeat request. She then has me fill out an entirely different patch of paperwork. As she's ringing me up for 1-3 day delivery, another lady says Oh no, we don't do that. I need to fill out the original paperwork, which lady #1 threw away. Call to vent to my mom and she launches into do this, what about this, did you do this? etc. Ruins my mood. Emailed AVC lady (for the millionth time) explaining situation, offer to fax documents. Will require going to registrar's office to get new documents.

No word from VMRCVM.

I really want to apply for some awesome summer internships but since I'm graduating this spring, I'll need to get myself a real job if I don't get into school and having a (likely) unpaid summer internship seems frivolous at best without vet school in the fall, like I'm wasting my time. I guess I'll poke around and maybe even apply to some with the hopes I get in AND can experience something awesome. Working with animals is great, but I want to try something I haven't done before, like zoo animals.

Not a happy camper.

Boo, I'm sorry people are stupid, hope the transcript fun smooths out soon.
Definitely know what you mean about the not knowing what to do during summer until finding out about vet school. I have this awful itch to travel for a long time, meaning not during a time I have a job, but I can't just up and leave until I know I will be in school, not working, in the fall. Come on and tell us our fate already!

My anatomy prof suggested to the class that we have a look at our exams from December. My honours prof suggested I go have a look. I had calculated my my grades and figured I had gotten somewhere around an 83 on the final... nope. 62% 😱 My calculations were waaaay off... my mark was a little too good to have gotten a 62% on the final.

On the brightside, it's only worth 10% of our overall mark. I can totally bounce back this semester. I just didn't have the time to completely memorize the 20 pages of muscles and the chapter we did on the spinal nerves because I had like a day and a half to study for it.

But it really got me thinking... if I do end up getting into vet school someday, how am I going to handle it???? I had a 3 day break (and a migraine), wrote 4 exams in 4 days and choked on two of them. In vet school, I'm going to have to write like 6 exams in the same amount of time! And they're going to be soo much harder!

*sigh*

Seems like no matter how hard I try, I can't get out of this rut. I'm always taking something I suck that. The exception is Biology. My biology marks are full of win. But between chem and physics... grrrrrr.

Eh... I'm not going to wait to hear about an interview... I'm going to start applying to grad school... it may be all I got.

Yeah it sucks cause it's soooooo long, but my whole department passed and none of us studied, so you'll likely be fine. I guessed on all the thermo and fluids questions and picked whatever graphs looked the prettiest. I never found that people really cared that I had it or not, but I wasn't really in a field where it mattered either. It's good to have it done though and is something to add to your resume that means something to a lot of people. You also get a snazzy certificate that your parents can frame and show to houseguests!

So, my landlord called a plumber for me to check out my bathroom taps. Unfortunately, she sent me the note as "Thursday Jan 14", so I wasn't sure if it was Thursday or Friday, and I couldn't be home Thursday anyway since I had an o chem lab (I did tell her I'd only be home Wednesday and Friday afternoons).

Maybe he came while I was home, I don't know, because while the intercom DID get changed to my number, it thinks it's long distance to my phone, so when they buzz my apartment, all they get is "You must dial 1 or 0..." 🙄 So I've had to sheepishly call my landlord again, say I missed the appointment, could she please reschedule it for a Wednesday or Friday afternoon, and please give him my cell phone number so I can come let him in.

And my sister is engaged. For most people, this would be good. But it's my sister, and she declares every boyfriend "The One!" until he inevitably fails to put up with her crap. This is her third time being engaged to a third guy, and I'm mentally taking bets on how long it lasts.

Thanks, Quantized. Good to hear your class/department has done well! I honestly haven't talked to many people about how they did when they took it, since most moved away. I know my SO, who was also a cheme, passed without studying but he has a ridiculous memory. But yeah, definitely for us it's good if you pass and you want to be a PE, but I can't tell that it hurts chemes to not pass it.

I wish my honours supervisor would stop bringing up the fact that I flunked pre-cal my first semester.

In a class of 20...
-The highest mark was in the mid-70s.
-Only 3 people passed the midterm (and I think I was one of them).
-Half of the class failed the course.
-Half of the people who passed failed pre-cal II with him.
-My tutor could only see me on Wednesdays (which was before the next assignment was assigned and after the last one was due, so I couldn't get help on any of them)
-A few students went to the dean and he didn't do anything.
-I could have written the supplemental, but I had one weeks notice and did not feel comfortable approaching the prof because he was a jerk.
-I did not realize that I could drop a course and not be penalized for it (I thought I would lose my student loan, or have to come back another year or vet school wouldn't like it)

So STFU. Next time you mention my math grades, I'm going to shove that down your throat.

They have a different prof teaching pre-cal and cal... guess what... people are making 90s now!

One of my back teeth is a little achey and I'm terrified its a wisdom tooth and its going to have to be ripped out and I'll fail all of my classes and doomdoomdoom. I think I'm being a little overly dramatic, but I still hope it isn't a wisdom tooth..

I think I need to bite the bullet and buy myself interview clothes, even if I haven't heard anything from VMRCVM or PEI yet. I was afraid of jinxing myself but now I just need to be practical about it. I'm really torn between a legitimate suit or just wearing a fancy blouse with dress pants and heels. I seriously look like I'm 12 and I feel like it'll be harder to be taken seriously if I look like a mini-sized adult in a nice suit. I've read through the attire thread and I know I can wear blouse/pants and not be out of place. I feel like I might feel better about myself in that, anyway. Either way, it needs to happen soon.

Dear Tyler,

Thank you for destroying the keyboard on my laptop. I really wanted to be thinking about buying a new computer right now.

Thanks,

😡

Looked for my first ever suit today for my interview. I kept scooting up and up in the price ranges until I finally found something that looked good; started out at H&M, then to Guess, Express and a few other places, and ended up at Ann Taylor. Damn you stupid body proportions (hour glassy but not heavyset, apparently no one makes inexpensive suits for that kind of figure???) I am now down a few hundred bucks but the suit fits nearly to a tee... Yay? Byebye monies 🙁

Tufts better let me in. If anything else, it's motivation to not go up another size for at least 10 years haha...

I know the feeling! I actually had to buy my interview suit as a separates thing. I wouldn't really consider myself fat but I have my mother's hips, and my bottoms were a full 2 sizes bigger than my top.

See, I can be a brat too. :meanie:

Dear Management:

My sincere apologies, but just think of all the vet bills you'll save on me when you're a vet yourself. That should pay for the laptop many times over.

Warm Regards,
Tyler

Ahh yes, that's usually the case for me but with a few sizes bigger on top than bottom. I bought separates this time but they ended up being the same size.

When trying on prom dresses for hs 5 years ago (back when I was er... too skinny... I'll put it that way), I ended up all the way up to a size 10 just to fit my not-so-discrete upper half. My waist fit a size 2. While not anywhere quite as small a size 2 anymore, there's still usually a large discrepancy in the fit which makes dress shopping a huge pain in the butt👎.

I used to have the same problem! But I fixed that by expanding my bottom half so that the top half didn't feel lonely🙄

I have this same issue! I gain weight in my chest first and my waist last. I know people say it should be a blessing but it's SO HARD to find clothing. 🙄

The itty bitty titty committee? Card holding member. What can yeh do, eh.

I'm more a card holding member of the I Have A Giant Azz Committee than the IBTC. Unfortunately, there's no cute rhyme for mine =(
