SOMEONE (one of two kitties) puked all over my bed.
And then ate it all up.
Gross.

I adopted my cat a month ago from the shelter at which I volunteered. I wanted to adopt a particular second cat but I hadn't moved into my new place yet so I wanted to wait and go back and get her if she hadn't been adopted. Well, I received an update from the shelter today (a low/no-kill shelter btw) saying that they had become overpopulated with cats and several had to be put to sleep... one of which was the cat I wanted to adopt.
I am heartbroken that I didn't adopt her in time.

Well, aren't you just a little bundle of happiness? Geez.... 13 posts later and A bunch of dredged up threads? Seriously?
You know how we have always been told the hardest part is getting in, not staying in? None of that is true at all. Getting in is the easy part, staying in is the hard part. Glasgow failed almost 10 students in one of th 1st year classes who were just points away from passing. This way, the student could repeat the entire 1st year including everything they had passed and pay their full tuition fees making it a 6 year program. They are very negative if you fail an exam and discourage you to continue on going.
They don't care about you, they just care about the money that the international students bring in. The locals don't pay anything, the English pay $3K pounds a year and the EU's pay about 1.4K pounds a year, and the Americans now pay about 22,500K pounds a year. So they now have about 50 Canadians and Americans. And the americans struggle the most because they aren't used to the new learning technique. Their ranking went up after failing a bunch of students out. I don't know if it went up because of that, or because they got better professors, but I worry it might set a bad example for other schools. The key thing is when you get accepted, you want to make sure you will stay there forever and if you fail a class, they will get you help before it's too late. Not discourage you and leave you on your own. They are not alone, I heard all of the UK schools are like this, and they are only into grades. They don't care about the big picture. I know of a lot of vet schools even in the states that does this, and even the non-accredited vet schools like Ross. My friend went to Ross and they failed him out in his last 6 week rotation in his final year. Completely on a discretionary basis, like what happened with all the americans at the UK schools. He has gone into depression over this and is trying to get the strength back to fight this.
Just remember, as someone who has no trouble getting in, the hardest is staying in. You are on your own, and don't expect anything from any of these vet schools. They do not care about you. You have to care about yourself and help yourself because no one else will. Just be cautious, always on your toes, for the entire 4 years, make sure you are never borderline to give them the chance to flunk you with subjective grading and pass some with the same subjective perspective of grading. So study hard, stay on your toes, AND never slack off. If you do, you might be borderline. Don't give them the chance to fail you. We need to win this one. Many people have lost 100's of 1,000's of dollars, like 100K and up due to this type of stuff. If they fail you out, you are unlikely to ever get accepted again so how will you pay your loans back since you can't file for bankruptcy? Just think about that for awhile.

I'm in FL right now, and am going to leave for a cruise tomorrow with my family. New boyfriend is being a turd and it's starting to get to me. Hopefully this doesn't ruin my much needed vacation. 🙁
dump him now before you board the ship!
Haha, that's what my friends are saying. 😳 I wish I were that kind of person, but sadly, I couldn't do that.👍👍
You can always get back together with him after the cruise if you don't meet someone on it. 🙂 🙂

dude, why not? what's a boyfriend anyway?
he's either an ornamental boy toy, in which case you don't want a turd
or
he's a prospective mate, in which case you don't want anything that even smells like a turd.
maybe i'm getting a bit too jaded with life
I just calculated my american GPA, the one I'll have to use if I want to apply for residencies etc in america. It makes me angry....
So, our marking key goes: Pass, Credit, Distinction, High Distinction. Within that, there are number grades. So, our high distinction is worth a 4.0. Where it gets ridiculous is what everything else is ranked as:
High Distinction: 4.0
Distinction: 3.0
Credit: 2.0
Pass: 1.0
How freaking ridiculous. I do believe you have to maintain a certain GPA in vet schools - pretty sure that below a 2.5/2.0 isnt even a passing grade??!?!?! SO HOW CAN I HAVE A PASSING GRADE WORTH LESS THAN A US PASSING GRADE?!?!?!
So, if i want to do a residency, im off to the Uk... (Im sure its nicer over there too 😛)
Yeah that doesn't make sense. A 1.0 corresponds to a D over here and that's not passing. Your Pass should be a 2.0, the High Distinction a 4.0 and the others somewhere in between...
Could they have messed up the numbers somehow?
Hmm I studied abroad in Queensland, and had to get my grades converted. They were on the 7 point scale, with anything above 4 being a pass, but they had those same descriptions. I ended up with distinctions and high distinctions, but had a 3.92 converted. My other friend had a very mixed set, and ended up with above a 3.0. I believe you have to pay for the grades conversion, but your overall GPA is probs much higher than that scale you have, and if you are passing over there, i'm sure you are passing over here.
It was a conversion thing given to me by the vet school for a research scholarship I thinking of applying for, when I figured out my GPA would be something pathetic that probably wouldnt be considered I decided not to, though. Maybe I should contact people in the US directly then about how they would calculate my GPA.... And thats some good info to have shortnsweet 🙂
Haha good i'm glad. If I remember correctly, a 4/pass was a C for us, but I think your best bet is to check with the US people directly. Though if you end up in the UK, that isn't all bad either...not that I am bias or anything...![]()
Haha, actually totally jealous of you, glasgow is my dream school but couldnt afford to go international in a million years... and when its only costing you a total of $60,000 to go to vet school, probably not worth it to go elsewhere!
And hey, I hear the salary is bitchin' in the UK compared to Aus.
watching the teen mom marathon (ok, that last part isn't so bad).
115 degrees outside today. Enough said.
Went to the ER last night for anxiety. It's usually not this bad, but I can't sleep or eat. I know the guy I was seeing is seeing someone else and won't talk to me. It hurts. And now I have to go back to the area where I have nothing- no friends or family or boyfriend, from spending two weeks at home. I feel like I can't go back, but I need to complete my internship. The mental health doctor strongly advises that I don't go back, but I can't let my boss down.

Whyyyyyyyy is it that there are so many recent marriages, engagements, buying first homes, and babies happening on facebook??? I feel like I'm watching everyone's lives just passing me by 🙁. Apparently, mid-20s is when life is supposed to be happening. Too bad I won't graduate till I'm well past that.
Nobody informed me that "to live" requires all of those things. I must be way behind.
It's funny, because when I see people on my friends list doing things like that my feelings are more of relief, that I'm so happy it's them and not me. 🙂

Marriages fail, engagements are broken, homes burn down or require absurd amounts of upkeep, and babies puke in your face and pee on you when you change them.
'Nuff said. 🙂

but your education is yours foreverrrrrr. at least until alzeihmers sets in.
huh, when you put it that way... I guess I'll just keep facebook stalking and give out an evil laugh every time these same people start posting FML posts in a couple of years.
Also, a bonus of getting married later in life is that the people at your wedding will probably be people you still like and/or talk to 5 years after the wedding ...
And the people at your wedding might be able to afford decent gifts...
many a mini-minnerbelles

Unless they all got married and had kids in their mid-20's, then their kids are starting to reach the expensive stage where they want to get involved in crap and they can't afford anything for you. 😉
If only they could be grown in a test tube for the entire 9 months.
Um... that would be kind of disturbing, even for me...

Lol, how would that work? A 9 month timer would go off, like beep beep, and you just open the jar and slap the baby till it cries?
