Hurt my back carrying a 100+ lb Newfoundland after we had to euthanize him today 🙁 It was wicked busy, multiple emergencies, no one else around. I should have waited, but we needed the room cleaned, yadda yadda. I did the whole "lifting with my legs" and all that jazz. But apparently I should have left out the jazz.... :slap:

I was fine until about 20 minutes ago when I stood up from my chair. Blerg.
 
Little gray floater is still hanging around. It looks like a small gnat constantly flying in front of me. I have never had one before but I have heard that they can be common. I have tomorrow off work so if it is not gone in the morning I will call the eye doctor and see if I can have it checked out. As far as I can tell it is only one gray floater and it just follows along with my eye as I move my eye. Hopefully, it will be gone tomorrow.
 
😡 Some ****ing a**hole burned my kitten with a cigarette yesterday while I was out. The wound is the perfect size and shape. I live at home with my parents and my sociopathic brother who hates me. He also just happens to smoke and he usually does this when he invites his drug addict friends over. I don't even care if the jerk hates me and is awful to me but don't dare hurt my kitten. Lila is a sweetheart who won't even scratch anyone. Why the hell would he burn a six month old kitten's temple? I feel so horrible for letting this happen to her 🙁.

At the very least PLEASE get that kitten out of there ASAP! You have no idea what else he or his friends are doing to her that doesn't leave marks, and you have no idea how fast or severe this abuse will escalate. That is animal cruelty, and if you aren't willing to report it, the least you can do is get her somewhere safe. If this is something that goes beyond your kitty, and your brother is hurting you as well, please please please get help. Even if this is just his idea of a sick joke, it is NOT acceptable.

I'm sure you are aware of the link between animal and people as well... and I sincerely hope that your brother never EVER does anything like that again. I know it's really hard when it's someone who you're related to and live with, but if I were you, I would seriously consider reporting it while the evidence is fresh.

That is such a crappy situation, I'm so so sorry 🙁

Oh hedgie 🙁 this about broke my heat reading about your kitten! That I such a horrible thing to do for such a sweet and innocent creature 🙁 I can't imagine how anyone could do that. Get your kitty out of there! Like minnerbelle said, what if worse things are happening to her. Ugh. That just makes me so sad and sick to my stomach. I'm so sorry you had to come home to that 🙁 🙁
 
Thanks guys. I'm working on finding her somewhere safe. I told my parents about it. My dad still doesn't believe it's a cigarette burn and he thinks that Lila did it to herself. My mom is really worried about Lila and thinks that even if it's not a cigarette burn that there's almost no way that a cat could inflict a perfectly circular wound on her temple and neither could her kitten buddy. My mom doesn't want me to give Lila away since she doesn't like anyone but me, with good reason, but I'm trying to explain to her that it's in the kitten's best interest. I think though that my mom might actually kick out my brother if he really did it. Apparently she can handle his other illicit activities and how he treats me but animal cruelty is where she draws the line. She's safe for at least today though which is good.

That's my plan for today. I'm going to be home all day today so I can watch her and give her lots of loving. If my brother or his live in girlfriend who is equally evil actually hurt her my mom says that she will turn them into the cops. At the very least she said she will kick them out and Lila gets to stay. I'm just so worried about Lila.

Poor Lila 🙁 Can you take her to a neighbor or friend's house for a bit until this gets sorted out? Your brother and his friends seriously need help. Makes me angry that they would do this 😡

I guess your dad may be in denial about your brother, but I'm glad your mom is being supportive. I hope everything works out for sweet Lila. 🙁

Sorry... However, they often don't find floaters alarming unless you've had head trauma, a major migraine, been poked in the eye, etc... May I assume that none of these have recently occurred? If they have, hop back on the phone with them pronto! If not, I still recommend going to see them; just in case...

And a quick mini rant from me (my apologies to any of the guys who may be reading this)... Had an appointment with my 'buddy' the gyno surgeon this morning and I'm still in pain. It's usually not this bad; but even sitting here is uncomfortable. Guess I'll go play with the critters. Perhaps standing up will do me some good...

Thanks, Emiloo. I wish I could pull that off! Unfortunately, I've been at my current job for a year and a half and they've known from the get-go. Even if I weren't to say anything, people tend to put 2 and 2 together after looking at my resume haha. That was the place that gave someone else a full-time position over me even though she is much less qualified. They told me everyday for a week when I came into work that, "If I weren't planning on leaving for vet school, the FT position would be mine" 😡. The other potential job found out without me saying anything because I rent the basement apartment in the house of one of their associate vets and she is the one who recommended me for the position. They pulled the "Well you might be leaving, so we're still going to hire you but give SusieQ priority" card on me yesterday. It's so frustrating!

That is really unfortunate. This may be out of line, but maybe say you've been rejected from your schools so they should give you better positions. Then if you get in, say you got called of the rejection pile and sorry for the inconvenience (which isn't really an inconvenience...it's really to their advantage to have a more qualified person in a higher position). I dunno. Maybe I'm just being crazy. I just feel like you're getting shafted every which way in this situation. 🙁

if you're applying for anything in the veterinary field i would NOT do this. the veterinary community is pretty darn small (some AVMA dude told us last week that there were about 100,000 vets in the US-idk if he's correct or not though). i wouldn't want to potentially end up with a black mark by my name before i even started school! you just never know who knows who in this field!

thats a really annoying and crummy situation though :-/ people need to live in the present and not the future!!

I don't really think she's screwing anyone over though. All employers know that they don't own their employees and they can leave anytime. They will never know whether she was called of the rejection list or not, IMO.

In all honesty, I am really not worried about the little floater. I have just never had one before so I was just being cautious. I have not had any head trauma...well if I did, I don't remember it...:laugh:.

The place I called was just....rude. That is all.

Hope your pain subsides quickly... that is the worst.
 
I'm not sure they would post a black mark on her record for "getting called off the rejection pile". It happens and no one is seen as lazy or selfish for doing it. People come and go all the time. They won't be punished for it and neither should Equitate. Especially if she works hard in the position and is willing to train any future replacements. I think as long as it is handled well, it will be ok. That's just how I see it, but I can understand the concern jmo2012 has. :shrug:
 
annoyed that my iphone has lost a lot of it's battery capacity and it's less than a year old!!! granted, i use it a lot, but it barely goes more than a day without me having to charge it...does anyone know of a good portable charger that i can get, that doesn't require some sort of cable or outlet to charge it?

second rant: girl scout cookies are my arch enemy right now. hrmph 🙁

ETA: i think the fan on my 1.5 year old macbook needs to be replaced or cleaned or something. keeps making this loud rattling/buzzing noise. I HATE TECHNOLOGY!

Wanted to give a little update on Lila kitten and say thanks for all the support. I watched her all today and she was her usual bubbly self. Right now she's screaming at me because I won't share my dinner. My mom was serious about it and kicked my brother out so she could search his room. She didn't find any cigarettes, cigars, lighters, even ashes. She doesn't necessarily believe they didn't do something but Lila went up to see them earlier today which I don't think she would if they hurt her. She wouldn't come to me for a whole day after I cut her nails--she holds a grudge well. My mom examined the rest of the house and we have another theory.

The whole injury has changed completely over the course of the day though. When I first saw her it was completely scabbed over and looked like a burn. She also still had hair on it. This morning she itched it a little and all the scabs came off. Over the day she lost all her from the wound. It now looks a lot like ringworm and not so much a burn. She's going to the vet first thing tomorrow so we'll know for sure. Thanks for all the support really. Here's a picture of the little girl:

lol i literally after you first posted about it was going to suggest that perhaps it was ringworm because of the location and shape.
 
At least it's pretty easy to check for... glow, no glow. A cig burn would leave a bloody type scar I would think.

But the fact that you really think your brother would do this makes me worry a bit nonetheless.
 
I hate being sick - I hate it worse when it's not that full on sick feeling. I've been nauseous for the last few days. But the kind of nauseous where you're hungry at the same time.

I saw my first parvo case and it did not end well.

my boss leaves a lot to be desired - like physical exams, most times. But I can't really quit right now (stupid loans).

I had a client doubt what I told him today because he thought I was in it to make money. He literally told me I was making it up.

That really sucks. That is one of the areas I dread the most about becoming a veterinarian. I hear a lot that vets are just out to get your money.... then why do vets make so little compared to other health care professionals!! As just a tech (meaning I'm not the dr making more if we gross more) I had someone tell me that I was just trying to sell him meds for the bottom line and that it is a conflict of interest because we sell the meds at the hospital. (Human drs aren't allowed to do that so why are we). Anywho, it really sucks when it gets in the way of treatment for an animal.
 
Whew! Please be ringworm! My blood was beginning to boil at the thought of someone hurting that precious looking kittay. Glad your mom took a stand...good for her. Keep us posted!

Like literally, the entire face started glowing. We turn on the light and it turns out the kitten had recently facedove into her food.

...and what did your douchebag client expect out of you anyway? Was it just a wellness visit?

I also want to say it was only 90% of m. canis, but not sure on that.

It was a dental cleaning - ran urine and found struvites...god forbid I want to treat them.
