I know... I was hoping it would be a little more official since it is from VIN and all. I did find it helpful that there were some known breed mixes being tested which isn't something you run across very often.

FWIW, my lab is developing a similar panel for cats, only it's more focused on 'regional' population origins rather than breed origins since 99.9% of 'breed unknown' cats are randombred DSH/DMH/DLH with absolutely no purebred origins - though we also have some markers that we use for breed. We did decide, however, that in addition to markers for people asking about specific breeds, we would have a "secondary" panel that also looked at breed functional mutations, IF the primary panel identified a major breed influence in the mix.

One of the criticisms of the breed testing is that it forces decisions to be made about breed ancestry based on the markers - it makes assumptions that a purebred animal existed in the animal's bloodline in the last 3 generations, which may not even be true for many shelter mutts. That was kind of the impetus for doing the 'regional' thing for us. The clustering algorithms really, really want to cluster, it's what they're meant for. So we tried to give some 'catch-all' sort of categories to cluster into that weren't necessarily breeds, but say 'European randombred' or "African randombred' or whatnot.

It was a fun thing to work on for us, we may or may not actually market it but do plan on being honest about the limitations and such as we should be. Anyway, we did test it on our colony cats of known mixed ancestry and it actually came out pretty good for us.

Yes but that is the whole point... BSL is stupid and does not work.... it does not stop dog attacks from occurring as any breed of dog can attack... we need dog laws targeting dog owners not breeds of dogs..... irresponsible dog owners cause dog attacks to occur not the dogs themselves... really

The whole point is the people enforcing BSL cannot tell the difference between different breeds of dogs and their opinion is that any medium sized dog with short hair, and a square head is a pit bull... it is completely false, but that is what they go off of. They do not use DNA tests as they are unreliable (****e we had a purebred AmStaff come back as a Border Collie).... they go off of sight which really is just as unreliable but they don't care.

I hear what you are saying, but responsible people are punished every day for owning pit bulls or dogs that resemble pit bulls and it fecking sucks... that is why you have to be aware of the laws where you live... cause you can get screwed over. Not sure if you remember the pit bull witch hunt in CO a few years back where they went pretty much door to door and took people's dogs away from them and euthanized them.... there are many places in the states pit bulls are banned... and your dog can be taken away on sight or you have a certain amount of time to move it out of the city. In the UK, if someone calls you out they just take your dog...that's it.

Completely agree. I lived on the US/Mexico border and I will tell you some people have a completely different idea on how to treat their animals. I will say that pretty much any dog that looks Chi or Pit in that area probably is because of the number of unaltered animals that just get out.

I'm not for BSL, I hate it. But on a personal level I am wary of pits. A neighbor's dog tried to get my Chi (yes my dog got out, but then the pit did) and then that dog came into my backyard one night and killed my cat. She was 17 and sitting on the back porch. (An aside: even in her old age she did well as an outdoor cat. The other cats stayed away from the yard and she never left it. If I ever get another cat it'll be indoor.) However, I have meet some super sweet pits. A friend got her sweet one because he was left at the vet clinic after being used for a bait dog. But really it is the owners and I was just around a lot of them that didn't care.

No car sale.... 🙁

Starting to get really frustrated...

Seriously this guy wanted me to sell the car for $4800 dollars... :bullcrap:

I am have one other person who was interested in buying it to use it as a fleet car, but he wanted just below $6000, I think I am just going to have to take him up on his offer... I really need more money than that for my deposit... I guess I will just have to take a cash advance on my credit card which I was really hoping to avoid... :bang:

How fecking stupid can people be? 😡😡😡

Warning: This video is disturbing... I want to shove whoever did this in concrete.

OMG!!! I am so pissed right now. That is DISGUSTING!!!!!! I couldn't watch the whole thing because I started getting so upset. That poor poor baby. I want to kick them in the teeth AFTER you stick them in the concrete. I am so pissed.

OMG! That is horrible! 😱😡😡 Sick, sick people. I couldn't watch it all.

Someone post a synopsis for folks that don't want to watch a really depressing video?

A guy finds a young cat buried up to it's neck in concrete in a pipe. It shows the cat crying and stuck in there. And the guy busting him out and it's crying the while time. The is it being held and still crying. There was a blurb that said the kitten died later and they think this was some sort of disgusting retaliation thing

Yeah, I opted not to watch that video and I'm really glad I didn't. I hate people so much.

Are they retaliating for the pre vet influx of the lounge!? :scared:

My vet is GRUMPY today. It's starting to feel like a verrrrry long time until we close.

You two.

I feel ya, SOV - doing kitchen renovation and trying to get people to call you back about stuff is such a pain sometimes, like you're just waiting. And we had a weird delay thing with our dishwasher.

Has anyone here painted kitchen cabinets before, or laid a floating floor? I feel like I'm doing all this crap for the first time and I'm bound to screw something up.

All I know is that my bf takes the fronts off and paints them outside and puts them back on later. But you probably knew that. Haha do you have any specific questions about the painting? Then I'll ask.

Well, ours have this routered pattern in them - like this

(I don't think that link will work for long)

And I was wanting to fill the pattern, probably with bondo or the like. I just want to make sure it looks nice enough to hold up next to the granite countertops and the new floor. We had looked into getting new doors and drawer fronts, but that's not really in the budget at this point. We had also looked at some trim and wainscoting to cover the faces, but that would throw off the spacing of the doors too much.

It's just hard to know what will look good and what will look like... well... resurfacing cabinet doors from the 60s. Since that's what we're doing.

That's exactly what my kitchen cabinets look like now, btw - color and all. It's a different house for sale in town. Maybe the same builder.

So I haven't heard of filling in groves before, but for refinishing, I saw this kit at home depot and it has fairly good reviews. They have several colors and just a light sanding, new finish and new knobs might do the trick:

As a fellow home renovator, from the bottom of my heart, good luck and let the wine flow! I think I blocked out the memory of the 3 months my husband and I redid the upstairs in this house.

I had someone who was interested in buying the car and was going to come by today. I got an email from him this morning saying that he is leaving the country... WTF????

:boom:

My grandma passed away early this morning 🙁 I'm glad she's finally at peace, but it's just so hard having her gone 🙁

Katie I'm so sorry 🙁 Sending lots of hugs your way *hugs*

I'm sorry. I know how difficult it is. I hope the next few days bring you loved ones and opportunities to remember her well.
