I got pulled over the first time ever last Thurs for speeding. Thankfully because it was my first time they just let me off with a warning. But that totally sucks. Speeding tickets are so freaking expensive.

Ouch! Mine was a photo radar one, I was going 58ish in a 45.. I never go above 15 over (not intentionally at least). I ignored the ticket and they attempted to serve me shortly after I left for the UK... 😛

My first ticket was going 53 in a 40... that cop was a jerk. No, not because he pulled me over (I knew I was doing something wrong) it was because of the way he handled the situation and his attitude. I was able to take the class to not have the ticket on my driving record, but that cost $275.

Cowgirla, you are doing much better than I did. One ticket in 8 years.. I have 2 tickets and a warning in 4 years... 😳 (I get my lead foot from my grandma).
 
For VA residents, speeding tickets in Virginia can reach over $1,000 depending on a few circumstances.

There are cameras all over the place in my area, but it's pretty well publicized that you have to be 12 over to trigger them. And there are STILL people who slow down to well under the speed limit--just as dangerous, folks!
DC uses cameras mounted on cars a lot, so you don't know if they are actually going to be there or not.

I've had a few where I thought the camera tripped, but have never received anything, so, yay?

Thanks, DVMD. Today was a little better - I picked up some famotadine and that has helped with the vomiting; but the other end is still a mess. Poor thing has had IBD and coloitis for almost her whole life & I just feel horrible when I can't control the nasty flare ups. Not to mention that cleaning diahhrea off the rugs, furniture, bed sheets, etc... is not one my more favorite activities.

🙁 I hope that things cleared up quickly. Ovarain cysts suck. The 'good' news is that as you get older the rupures happen less often. As least that's how it's been for me. :xf: you're feeling better.

As for speeding tickets, I'm sadly well versed. Inherited a lead foot from my grandfather and I 😍 going FAST. Yet another reason I like public trans...
 
I got my first ever speeding ticket like 6 months ago. 51 in a 35 zone ... Totally ridiculous! Cost me $360!

To be perfectly honest, I'm probably well overdue for a speeding ticket considering how I drive some times. Sucks that I've driven from OK to NH and back in the past 6 months and then manage to get a stupid ticket on the back roads of OK. There have been many times I've been legit speeding and today was really just an accident lol. At least the ticket cost isnt anywhere near as scary as some of the ones you guys have gotten! $140 is rough but won't completely break the bank.

A warning would have been nice as my first "Freebie". I've never been pulled over for anything before. I'm kinda hoping there's a way to make this disappear with a DD course or something just because I don't really want it hanging around on my record.

You could plead not guilty, go to the court date, and hope the office doesn't show up. Then you won't have to pay the ticket. Or, if he does show up, explain what happened, and the judge might bring it down to less money and points. At least that's what we do in VA..

You may be able to find an online DD course, my little sister did one recently, but the DD courses, at least in AZ, are more expensive than the ticket, but at least it isn't on your driving record.

Got the ticket almost an hour from home + I have an exam on the listed court date. First thing I checked :laugh:
I also feel like small town OK cop might not be very busy and will have plenty of time for court.

Havent found a cost for an online course, but the in person ones meet every weekend and cost less than $50
 
I have mice in my apartment. Well, at least one who has balls of brass - we went at it for a while with me trying to trap him. Sure, he's a cute little thing; but makes me wonder if this isn't what's making my cat sicker than she's been in some time. Third floor apt in a city - never thought I'd have rodents. At least I haven't seen any droppings. Still calling the landlord first thing in the morning. Aruggggh!

But that is preferable to the bed bugs I JUST GOT RID OF!!!!
I had bites on my for like 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Since I wasn't feeling awesome enough yesterday with just the pain from my cysts at work I started coming down with flu like symptoms--fever, muscle aches. I've been having this weird fever dream about parvo dogs at the shelter and waking up every half an hour crying in pain or saying "No I don't want to clean that kennel stop moving the dogs." Samson has been freaking out all night and laying with his head on my bed just staring at me. And he had an accident which he's only done once since getting here but I can't clean because when I bend over I almost pass out. I just want to feel better and/or get some sleep.

Thanks, Abney. And I'm so sorry to hear about the bed bugs. Now, THAT totally sucks!! Have to be honest in saying I would rather deal with rodents than bugs!!

There was one week in October without exams so my BF just bought his flight for the weekend before... today they changed our immunology midterm to that Monday. :annoyed::bang::uhno::poke::slap::sendoff::nono: :boom:

Ahhh, that sucks. Sorry. In order for test dates to be moved at MSU, the entire class has to vote "yes" to move it. 🙁

It's not your right side right? As in, you sure it's your ovaries and not your appendix?

Ouch that sucks!

Any chance that you can get your whole class to move it? We have a student faculty liason here and if we have issues with stuff like this, they represent the class and talk with the profs/administration to try to fix the problem. If your whole class has an issue with this test date, then maybe something could happen?

I did think of that but the pain started about a week ago on the right side. Rant: feeling worse today but I have to be better by tomorrow since my supervisor is a jerk when anyone calls in and we're short staffed right now.
 
We just lost the kindest, sweetest man who has ever walked the face of the earth, my Grandpa. He passed away this morning. I never knew it would affect me this much. It's my first grandparent to pass on. My mom is a complete wreck, it's her dad and hero. She was flying up to visit him this weekend and now she is beating herself up for not going sooner. I have no way to comfort her or the rest of my family from so far away and I could use a hug or two myself. Hoping some daisies (her favorite) can help her through a little. We all have such AMAZING memories and feel so insanely lucky to have had a man like him in our lives. Might be flying up to Ohio this weekend for the services, but for now it's only a few hours old and I'm trying to straighten up and go to class 🙄.
I just needed to tell someone and get all of that out without breaking down and scaring someone with my cry face 😳

Sending you hugs, Emiloo! I'm so sorry for your loss. My bf's grandma died yesterday, 1 week after his mom moved back to Tennessee after living in Arizona, taking care of her. Needless to say she's feeling guilty as well. I hope your family can focus on the wonderful memories rather than the sadness of the loss.

AHHHHHHHHH!

Apps are due a week from today and I feel like I'm going to explode from all this stress. I have biochemistry and an animal physiology midterms today and a statistics midterm on Thursday.

It doesn't help that my boyfriend is hardly being understanding... He just complains that I don't spend enough time with him. Le sigh.

My deepest sympathies to you and yours on the loss of your grandfather, Emiloo. 🙁 Losing someone you not only love but respect is a very difficult thing with which to cope; especially from a distance. My rant seems minor now. My frustration level is so high right now. One of my roommates is driving me up the wall. They are being inconsiderate, loud, and messy. I'm anxious and stressed at school, anxious and stressed at home, I have no escape. I signed up for some clubs but my roommate signed up for the same ones. I can't get away. I tried talking to them but they deny there is an issue. So frustrated I am shaking. Things aren't getting better at school either. I'm having difficulty sleeping so I'm tired all the time so I'm sullen and cranky. I'm stressed about my living situation so I'm even more cranky. This makes me isolate myself/people avoid me. The roommate is also telling some classmates I'm not nice because I make them do household chores (read clean up after themselves). I feel sad and lonely most of the time. There are hours where I feel great, then I just drop. I've started to slip on school work because I'm tired and tbh I just don't care sometimes. This scares me because I want to be a veterinarian and what I'm doing right now is hurting that goal. I'm on the waitlist to see a counselor. I hope it helps. I feel so lost right now.
 
If you can find someone to take over your portion of the lease you can get outta there.

This is why I will only live with my husband or live alone!! I had my fair share of horrid roommates!

Ky: I've lost faith in roommates. When I was in res with 4 girls (two of them were terrors), it took me months to adjust. One was loud and messy. She copped an attitude whenever you asked her to do something. The other was pretty aggressive. It ate away at me to the point where I was sick all of the time from being stressed.

If you can't get out of the situation, don't get involved. If you have a messy roommate, try focusing on your own mess. Clean up after yourself, do your own dishes, keep your side of the fridge tidy, etc. Don't worry about cleaning up after her. If the mess gets too bad for too long, don't be afraid to be a brat and dump the mess on her bed. Then she'll have to deal with it. We had to do that to our messy roommate. January 31st came around and she still had not moved her tree, decorations, presents and blankets into her room. So we just threw everything in there.

If it stresses you out to be in the house, just do your studying elsewhere. I know it's nice to just lay and bed and study, but you're not good to get much done if you are in a loud or negative environment.

My last roommate wasn't very clean at all. I decided not to stress about it or approach her about it. Nothing ever came about it. She ended up tidying up when her stuff got really bad. I just had to deal with a little dirt and crumbs for a bit.

If this girl is in vet school, she is in for a rude awakening. I hope she doesn't carry her messiness and attitude into a clinical setting.

Received an electric bill from Scottish Power apparently I owe them over 600 pounds for 5 days worth of electricity, 3 of those days I wasn't even in the flat I was in London.... :wtf:

Called them to try to get this sorted out and apparently the letting company closed out my account with Scottish Power and had told them someone else had moved in and if I had not called them that they would have automatically charged my card for the amount.

Also discovered that the electric meter in the flat is not working so they have to come out and replace it, which could take some time. They can not drop the balance that is over 600 pounds until they can put in a new meter and get an average of my electrical usage, which I understand, but with the way that the UK has been working for me, I will be lucky if that happens before the next mellenium.

I swear every time I begin to feel settled and like everything has FINALLY come together, **** hits the fan... I already feel like crap enough, I don't need any additional stress. Not to mention that if they do not significantly decrease the electrical charges that could very well mean that I can't go home during Christmas now, which is the ONE thing I have been looking forward to.

It is an unusual renting situation. My dad owns the house. 2 other vet students and I are renting from him. We all pay the same rent even though I end up doing most of the maintenance. I talked to him about it and the only way she is leaving is if she breaks some term of the lease or leaves voluntarily. Same goes for me, I have to break the lease and pay out a fee for breaking it. Kind of awkward.

Never rent from family and never live with classmates. Lesson learned the hard way 🙁

Legally he can't kick someone out because his kid doesn't like them. It's a frustrating situation for sure but I don't think it's fair to expect the dad/landlord to throw someone out of the house.

I agree. The talk I had wirh him was more about claryfying my responsibilities to him and to the other tenants. I'm not the landlord but I'm being treated as it right now. I shouldn't be my responsible to fix things, pay for things, and be the sole source for maintenance. I'm just a tenant who pays equal rent. I think a large part of the problem is the confusion over what people think I'm responsible for.

Not sure how they would do a makeup for that, but I'm going to ask tomorrow. Still not sure if I'll make it since flights are $600 🙄
Wish I was still in NY so I could drive over 🙁.

Still not sure if I'm going. Finding somewhere for my two large dogs is the hardest part. Boarding is way too expensive. Especially with the cost of a plane ticket 🙄
Not sure what to do. I want to say goodbye to my grandpa and be there for my family, but just don't think I can afford it 🙁

Could a classmate maybe take care of your dogs for you to cut down on the cost of boarding? They might be willing to do that for less.
 
Dear LSU,

If you absolutely need to have everything by the deadline, and the deadline is the same day the VMCAS is due, can you PLEASE let us track our application before we submit VMCAS?

I'm just now finding out (because I submitted the VMCAS Monday) that they never got my transcript, which I sent in August and which made it to my other 4 schools. Really hope the re-send makes it in time...LSU is my IS.

My male is SUCH a problem child and is not good with random people (I'm trying to work on this). I would feel bad for the person watching him and worry the whole time. My female would be fine but he is just impossible to deal with. And my roommate just so happens to be flying out for a wedding this weekend 🙄
