I had to take my rats to the vet today. Spent $20 on a carrier and $86 on an exam and meds. Hurts a little bit when it is right after pay day and my student loan payments start soon. But it had to be done.

I am new to rats and I got them in September. They were a little sneezy and I chalked it up to them getting used to the apartment smells. Then I noticed droplets of polyphrin places and Sprocket had an attack last night. I found a place who saw rats and came home with some antibiotics. Vet thinks it is the beginning of a URI for both of my girls.

I feel a little guilty for not having them seen earlier but the darn Internet made it seem like sneezing is normal at first.

Luckily the vet was awesome. I also got his opinion on spaying and he made me feel like I am doing all of the right things for my girls.

Hopefully my girls get better soon!
 
Also, don't come into Starbucks and:

F up the line (so that I look like an idiot for standing behind you)

Talk about whether they are hiring and if the barista likes his job while the line grows

Order "the caramel thing that you have at Christmas" and continue to act like little gossipy valley girls while they fix the line and figure out what you want.

I just want my salted caramel soy latte with whip.

They will fire you if you hold up lines with gossip.

Insignificant silly little rant. I was due for one.
 
I've been watching Buffy for the game and am now really creeped out. It was fine so far until this episode with the dummy. I hate possessed dolls etc. I know it's just a show but they make me so paranoid. Stupid dolls.

Roommate comes back from visiting family today and my stomach aches have started again. It has gotten to the point where the stress is too much. I'm looking for another place to live. Things are awkward with my dad now because I'm moving out (he owns the house we live in). I'll be paying rent in 2 places but at this point I don't care. The other roommate and I have talked to her about the stress and tension in the house. It really comes down to personality/lifestyle clashes. She won't move so I'm going to. Other roommate will probably opt to do the payout fee and leave as well. I'll move back in when her lease is up and she is gone. Too much stress 🙁
 
Laid down for a short nap at 5. Had an alarm set for six.

Woke up at 9:45 in the middle of an allergy attack. I am SO FLIPPING itchy. And wheezy. And cranky. My eyes hurt and I'm afraid to look in a mirror. My usual go-to allergy med isnt doing anything. My skin feels like its breaking out in hives and breathing hurts. Deep breaths? Forget about it.

And have I mentioned that I can't take benadryl and about 90% of other antihistamines either do nothing or give me really wierd reactions?

My cat just knocked my laptop off the table and now there's a crack in the screen.

Me either. There's like 5 min of "you broke ANOTHER cup/you ate my maple bacon crusted pork loin/bread loaf/whatever." and then it's all cuddles.

I'm not sure. I was just going to keep using it and get a new one for vet school if/when I get in. My laptop is over four years old and I have a net book so it's not too big a deal.

ftfy 😉

My laptop is 8 years old this year. It's DVD/CD drive has been broken for 2 years, It just got an upgrade to 1GB total RAM. It's a beast, but I held on to it and my eee PC netbook saying "I'll get a new one for school." I ended up buying a new decently powered Toshiba for school for like $350. My old comp was like $1,700 in 2005 :meanie:

I still don't use the new one as much as my old baby. Habits are hard to break.
 
Speedy recovery Abney!

Woke up with a jaw ache. Had some fillings done earlier in the week but today, after working all day yesterday, I am in some pain 😡 🙁
 
I had the weirdest pain last night and have no idea where it came from. It felt like thousands of needles were stinging me around my heart, down the left side of my body, my whole stomach, almost my whole body besides arms, legs and head. Hurt really bad. I'm so happy it's gone now..
 
Why am I bothering to submit an application to the only vet school I can apply to when I know I will not be granted an interview?

It still upsets me that a school that accepts two groups of students (local and international) do not make the requirements fair among the locals. They look at two criteria for granting interviews - pre-req grades and GRE. They except the top x% from each province for an interview. I cannot get an interview in my province based on my grades and GRE, but if I moved I would because the other places have fewer applicants. I wish they would introduce a cut-off for grades if they were that important (or unimportant... I am really confused about it). Most people I know have stats similar to mine and have great experience. They would probably kick butt in an interview and would make great DVMs. How do I know this? Because people with similar stats have gotten in previous years and are doing well. It just hurts watching students with 1000s of hours of veterinary experience not get that chance because they live in Province A instead of Province B. I am wondering if any of the 6th time applicants I have met are going to bother applying again. That is all I am going to say about that this year.

I just printed out my application. Almost all of my hours (veterinary, animal, employment and extra-curriculars) took a hit this year because they expire after 5 years. I lost 250 veterinary hours this year for being over 5 years old and only gained back 130 of them.

In the meantime, all I can do is work on my plan and try to kick some butt.

Quit being stubborn and do what they say... You can end up needing surgery and making it worse if you don't care for it properly..

So, sat around waiting some more, kept getting airline emails about the delay with new estimated times of departure. And then got one with no new time and freaked out once I got back to the gate and saw cancelled. Basically starting crying in the middle of the airport because it was around 11am at that point and had to be at the church in FL at 3pm for memorial service (at 4pm).
Got standby on a flight to a city an hour and a half north and there were some really nice people including a woman who was going to give me her seat (she had been standby also) if I didn't get one and an airline employee waiting to see if he could grab a seat also who was checking the standby list and giving me updates. Got a cab from that airport that I took directly to the church (most expensive cab ride I will ever take but don't care at all) right at 3, changed in the bathroom there, but I made it, so that's what counts.

I made the mistake of getting my dog riled up while she was on my bed once. We knocked my laptop off of my bed (we being because it was truly my fault for playing with her on my bed). Screen shattered and had to get a new laptop.

I hope you don't have a macbook!

Sophomore year I 'tipsily' kicked my macbook off of my 9 foot lofted bed... the screen was broken and my macbook casing was cracked beyond repair. The screen itself wasn't even cracked or shattered. Total cost = $550. I even opted out of fixing the bottom casing because it was already broken prior to the event, saving another $90. To say that I'm more than paranoid now with my little mac baby is an understatement. I know I could have bought two new netbooks for that price, but once i went mac, I couldn't go back. No problems with it since!
 
Our puppy jumped over the back of the couch onto my laptop and almost bent the screen so far back that broke. I was gonna mad. Lucky it didn't bend far enough. Wouldn't be the first time a dog broke my laptop that way...
 
I'm in a whiny mood today.

1. I'm so sick of studying. Diagnostic imaging final Monday, systemic path on Friday and finally we're done for a little bit. But my brain refuses to cooperate with anything else I try to shove into it.

2. I've been having that "on the verge of sneezing" feeling all freaking day. It's really annoying.

3. Wedding planning from far away is a pain in the ass.
 
Realizing now that, after getting up at 4am Friday after 2 hours of sleep and then a tiring weekend (long days and rather emotionally-draining), I am working at 7:30am every day from tomorrow until Sunday, 7am volunteering Monday, and then 7:30 again Tuesday to Friday.
Not looking forward to the next few weeks.
 
Can't seem to focus right now...physiology just keeps going in one side of my brain and out the other...need to study phys...

Join the club! I can't take anymore studying right now. Phys midterm is tomorrow morning and I spent 40 minutes tonight taking pictures of my cats 🙄 Super productive.
 
I cant seem to type this up without it seeming altogether too petty and whiny even for me.

Basically vet school schedule the next few weeks = makes me want to cry = way too little "free" time (basically, no time to study let alone do anything else) = soul sucking = I think I have to give up eating, sleeping or showering if I ever want to see daylight in the next few weeks.

I wish our surgery schedules were more balanced. I have all my sx dates crammed into the next 3ish weeks. And yet there are some people with absolutely nothing scheduled this semester surgery-wise.
