This place I am at is still driving me insane.
Nearby this boarding area for the small mammals there is a goat with a few sheep in a field. And the goat is really thin. So I tell the manager who is around, "hey, that goat is quite thin." And he says, "Well, it is a dairy goat." 😕
I tell him, "well, from where we are standing now, that goat is about 50 feet away and I can count its ribs, that is too thin, I can also see the finer details of the transverse processes of its spine and I can see details of the pelvic girdle. From this position on a goat of proper body condition, I should not be able to count ribs and while I might see some transverse processes, I should not see quite the detail I can currently. Also, the goat has diarrhea stuck to its bottom. It is thin and has diarrhea, I just wanted to make someone aware so that it could be checked out."
He then says, "oh, yeah, she does have some diarrhea there, ok, well, maybe we should worm her, but I don't think she is that thin."
Ugh.
Also today I was told by one of the volunteers who has been there for 16 years that the previous managers were much better and took good care of the animals. She said they always made sure that the animals had fresh veggies/fruit (the rabbits, guinea pigs, tortoises, etc). She said now with the new manager that he will not purchase veggies/fruit for the animals and relies on inconsistent donations which often means that there are no veggies for the animals which basically means that the tortoises go hungry. 😡
ETA: I am only in one small area of this place, I can't even imagine what is occurring throughout the rest of the farm. Not sure I really want to find out either.
