Just love it when people take their pets home to "die at home", especially when they are already agonal and stiff. Patient didn't survive the drive home.
ah i had one of these on monday! pet was semi stable at discharge, but would quickly deteriorate without care/diagnostics. owner actually brought pet back crashing and burning a second time to consider euthanasia (i guess i'm glad they didn't let it seizure its brains out until it diet at home, but still...)

We had a client that insisted on that once. If I remember right, we basically wouldn't allow it (although I'm not sure we could technically allow or not allow that?). The dog was in baaaad shape, as was the owner. We were worried she was going to get herself killed. The dog was going to be a huge distraction in her backseat because it wasn't going very peacefully, unfortunately.

This particular client insisted on taking the dog back home because she admitted she didn't see the sense in paying us to kill (euthanize) her dog when it was going to happen anyways for free.
did you offer to euth for free? i'm grateful to work for someone who believes in compassionate care (whether the person really deserves it or not, but the animal does)

Are these two mutually exclusive comments? I have Hashimotos and don't consider myself immunocompromised and I'm super stressed. Never gotten shingles.

No they are not. She considers herself immunocompromised.

Virginia too for Qdoba! Also you guys are killing me with this Taco Bell/Qdoba/Chipotle/Mexican food talk being here in Grenada and not having access to any of it 🙁

I'm not in school but I thought the definition of immunocompromised is the inability to fight disease, where autoimmune is the body fighting itself. This isn't a good reaction but it doesn't mean I am more susceptible to colds or anything else just because I have an autoimmune condition. I think there are other aspects of the disease that might make you feel that way though. I think the deficiencies that arise because of the disease or brought out the disease could make you more susceptible to illness. But the autoimmune response itself? Ehhhh. When I think immunocompromised I think of HIV or someone who is on drugs after a transplant, where the body truly can't mount an adequate response. Am I wrong here?

You're not wrong here. But you can become immunocompromised due to an autoimmune reaction from my understanding.

I know very little about Hoshimoto's. All I know is what my friend has told me and I'll take her word on how she feels since she was diagnosed at 8 and is well rehearsed in how it works in her body.

immunocompromised can also mean decreased ability to fight disease. Many people with autoimmune diseases (and subsequent treatment) are immunocompromised.

This is what I was going for. Thanks.

It's a regional quick-Mex chain. We had them in KY, but we don't have them in TX. So, I guess it's mid-west or north or something.

Not true--there's quite a few Qdobas in Dallas and a few in Austin. If it's Mexican or Mexican-like, it'll be in Texas somewhere. 😉 That's why I love this state so much.

Yeah...that boss would have never done that. Not in a million years.

Update on the ceiling leakage/stench: still happening. Still smells like anal glands. School was going to look at it during lunch, but that didn't happen, and now the smell is fluctuating. You think it's gone and if wafts back at you.

Please provide up to the minute updates on ceiling anal gland leakage. I'm standing by 😛.

I'll have to throw a comment out for my cousin who thinks that Cafe Rio is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Im not sure what their territory is, but theres at least a few in Vegas.

How have I missed this?!

Since nobody has mentioned them (I think), you have to throw Taco Cabana into the mix.

TACO CABANA!! My absolute favorite!! Every time I visit family in Texas that is my first stop! Really sad that we don't have any in CA. We have everything else mentioned on here...

I didn't get the Merial summer research program 🙁 It's probably for the best, honestly, because of my shoulder situation. The good news is that the program coordinator emailed me personally to tell me that I had a great application, but they couldn't put together any funding for zoo/wildlife this summer. Part of me kind of regretted listing that as a preference when I hit submit because I suspected that would be a problem. I look forward to trying again next year. She also offered to work with me on applying for grants and stuff so I can somehow get my foot in the door, so I'm happy to hear that!

So we definitely don't have Moe's in OK.

Strike that - we do. There are two. One is in an airport terminal somewhere at the OKC airport, and the other is on campus at Oral Roberts University here in Tulsa. I will never visit either of those places.
I didn't know you live in Tulsa! I grew up there. 🙂 So I definitely understand why you wouldn't want to visit ORU lol.

A Moe's opened up here a year or two ago, but I haven't gotten around to checking it out. I did have Qdoba for lunch yesterday thanks to this thread. 😉

I sure do (TTown) now that I'm not in Stilly anymore. It was here or OKC, so. Or Texas, I guess we could have moved to Texas. But bleh. I actually grew up right around Tulsa so I've been in the area for 30 years now.

ORU is a miserable place... I mean, the people there are fine, but I would never want to spend money on campus in case even a single damned penny made it back to the college itself. My grandma gave that dirty, lying old man so much of her money that there was nothing left for her nursing care in the end and they had to let go of the house. She probably gave other dirtbags money too, but she always would wax poetic about Oral and his great causes and it has left a very nasty taste in my mouth.

I live pretty close to the place though.

All this talk about Chipotle and other restaurants made me crave it, so I got some yesterday. Only problem was that I got it at an airport. Almost exactly 24 hours later and I'm exhibiting all the symptoms of norovirus. Granted, I was flying the past two days and could have caught it from anyone in close contact, but that's too big of a coincidence for me to ignore.

There's supposedly a super virulent strain of norovirus in the US currently (sydney strain)

So it's not just me! I'm sure I didn't have norovirus (I didn't need to go to the ER for fluids because my v/d wasn't that extreme), but yeah Chipotle doesn't agree with me. I think I lost 5 pounds in two days because of the free burrito coupon.

There is some norovirus going through our school now (and it also shut down an entire dorm at UofM), so it very well could have been the plane.

"They are dumbing down the vet schools these days. Back when I went, you never heard of someone getting accepted to 5 schools, unless they were really smart." ...You know, normal people just say "Congrats!" But thanks for belittling my accomplishments... I hope it makes you feel better. 🙄

Whoever said that is an enormous ass

My boss will sometimes talk about how inflated grades are these days, and how GPA's don't mean what they used to. I have no idea how much university grading systems have changed since she was in school, and she doesn't intend to be insulting, but at the same time . . . yeah, I feel a little insulted. 🙄

I suspect when she went to school most applicants only applied to their IS. So, of course you couldn't get into five schools if you only applied to one.
And congrats on getting accepted at 5. That's amazing!

Thanks guys 🙂 That was my new boss. When I first told him the schools I applied to, his response was, "Well you'll probably get into one of them, but I wouldn't count on the others." Without even knowing what my stats/experiences were. Every time I told him I got into a school, he always seemed taken aback, because how could he be WRONG??! Now he keeps giving me quizzes he finds online, because I can't really be THAT smart, can I? 🙄 (Can I make this emoticon bigger? I mean, seriously.)

I don't even care. I'll only be there through the summer, and then I am GOING TO VET SCHOOL! :soexcited:

Wow, he sounds so rude! 😡 Congrats on all of your acceptances! Don't let anyone belittle your accomplishments.

I called and left a message with the director of the local dog shelter on Monday. We're supposed to be discussing me working for them through a temp agency and when I need to start training. She still hasn't got back to me and my attempts to call on Friday went straight to voicemail. I assume they're not in a big hurry to get more part time adoption counselors hired but now I'm entertaining the idea of doing an internship later in the summer at a local health department. It's a full time internship and, while I might be able to work both jobs simultaneously, I need to know if I even really have a job at the shelter. The shelter job is primarily evening and weekend hours and pays $16/hr so it would be a nice part time gig. I just really wish they'd get back to me if they're interested in moving forward.

I want to do the vector control internship because it lets me get practical entomology experience and, because I'm a registered SIT, I can be delegated tasks other true student-interns can't do so I will probably be a strong candidate. It's a longer drive away from my home and doesn't pay as well, but the experience would be invaluable.

My regular bank denied my mortgage application and generally acted like I was a poor dirty peasant. I get that they want the numbers to look pretty, but they just handled the whole things terribly. I've been with them 15 years and I've never had anything but good interactions with them but this just left such a bad taste in my mouth that I have half a mind to close all my accounts and move them elsewhere. Reapplying with a mortgage broker and my step-dad as a co-signor.

Minor rant:

You know, I understand that there are some things about my undergrad that I dislike strongly. But don't complain about a $140 technology fee when the internet can have struggles, but also leave out that we have free campus printing (black and white and color), several free computer labs you can use whenever you want, and leave out that your frustration is because you're a hard core gamer, not because you can't really access the online class components.

You go to a four year state college that totals ten grand a year without any scholarships. That's how much housing cost my ex per school year alone, and his internet wasn't any better than ours down at DU. Keep some perspective, man.

It was so rainy and windy last night that my garage door got stuck in its rails, and the all clear sensor (whatever it's called) got thrown out of alignment. What a waste of an hour I'd have rather spent sleeping.

Me trying to read ECGs: :boom::dead:

I am officially doomed for my cardio exam on Wednesday...
