I love SDN. Thanks guys.

Wellness ferret exams (if you know the clinic I work for, check their FB; they're cute and awesomely named!) and a little less death and I feel better. 🙂
Omg, those cat snakes are adorable!

I slightly understand LIS's fear, the clinic I worked at had an evil ferret patient that bit me hard once (this was over 3 years ago and I still have the scar on my finger). Then on a separate visit he bit another tech and one of the doctors, while sedated! He was a ferret-polecat hybrid, not sure if that had something to do with it. Every other ferret I've met has been really friendly.

The local grocery store (wegmans) has this amazing prepared food section with seafood/chicken/beef/veggie entrees in single/double serving trays that all you need to do is stick in the oven. Not exactly cost effective but I love it. I stock the freezer with a bunch of them and defrost as needed. Saves me from trying to cook for 1 all the time or gives me a break from whatever crockpot meal I am trying to finish
Oh, I have a lot of little cardboard boxes that equate to put a slit to vent and into oven. haha

SHARP TEETH! WEASEL! RUNNNNNN!

Is it his insulinoma?

(I dunno why it bugs me.... just a dumb nitpick gripe. I just get irritated when people ask me how work at the e-clinic is going. We're a hospital, dammit. I'm unreasonably irrational about it.)
He's three years out from partial pancreatectomy and I'm steeling myself to cut him sometime again. maybe. Iunno. :dead:

E-hospital doesn't have quite the same ring unfortunately lol.

Damn, I didn't realize there was a difference. Considering a LOT of day practices are XYZ Animal Hospital in this area. Are day practices/GP's called XYZ Animal Clinic in Minnesota?

Mine very likely taste better and are better for you LOL. But I definitely understand the perils of grocery shopping in Stillwater
Haha! We have a sprouts now at least, so I eat a lot of their stuff and it is more expensive of course, but pretty healthy.

There is a Sprouts in my area and for some reason, it's inexpensive - go figure! I like to purchase fruits and vegetables at Sprouts as often as possible 'cuz the produce is super-fresh and delicious.

I imagine it is cheap for CA, but compared to Stillwater, OK Wal-Mart, it is pricey. bahahaa

The one in Texas is the same way. Absurdly cheap for some reason, definitely cheaper than a ton of our leading retail groceries. This isn't the case for the one here in CO so I'm still a little puzzled as to why the one down there is so dirt cheap.

Ok so PT school CAN'T be more competitive than vet school can it?? There's like a billion PT schools in every state!
My 3 physics lab partners are all trying to get into PT school and they all go on and on about how hard it is.

And this is how I feel -
Dane Cook. That’s all 😍

Actually my mini rant: an owner punched me yesterday. Never did I think that would happen.....

I get emotions run high when trauma happens but (I don’t work at an emergency hospital/clinic and when I am the only doctor on....) I still don’t think it’s okay for a client to hit me... 😕:sorry:

Same for DFW as well. And then the one in Stillwater is just expensive. Especially for meat. I don’t get it.

No definitely not okay for a client to hit you under any circumstance.
You okay Kdubs??

?!?!?! Police report?! That's worth firing the client over imo. I hope you're okay.

😍 Thanks, Ski, I am okay. My left arm is kinda flaring up and painful recently since my car accident in October (why now, I haven’t the foggiest) so I added left shoulder and upper arm pain to the list. Making my left arm useless

I know. I probably should have but I was the only doctor and honestly felt like I didn’t have time to add filing one to my packed day. Thanks 🙂 I’m just gonna be wary whenever a client comes near me (more stress....)

I’m glad you’re okay😍 but booooo about your arm deciding to be useless :sendoff:

Is it possible to never see this client yourself again? If firing isn’t an option? The rest of the clinic would still be able to provide veterinary services, but is it possible for you to be like “nope nuh uh I’m not seeing them” unless it’s something that needs to be seen ASAP and you’re the only doctor available?

I know there’s one client at the vet I work at that one doctor WILL NOT see and appointments can only be made for them with the other doctor (idk if more urgent things would trump this or not but I assume so?)

Because personally I wouldn’t want to see that person ever again

And idk if it actually would be too late to file a police report or not the next day. Idk what the statute of limitations on that is but I feel like it should be more than a day so you could look into it if you were interested in filing one still

Good points. And yes, I can do that. I’m not sure I’ll ever see them again anyways. And for the report, if it was worse, maybe? Idk. I do know that #violenceisnevertheanswer . Man, people sometimes...

If anything, even leaving a note in this person's file that no one should ever be alone with them in the room at any point. I'm really sorry this happened to you.

This is awful - very sorry to hear this happened to you!

Have you had an opportunity to discuss this matter with the owner of the private practice? Does the practice owner know the owner of the pet?

Kdubs, hope you're okay.

Sending lots of gentle hugs to you (and if I lived near your practice, I'd drop off lots of donuts, ice cream and pizza to help soothe your pain. Seriously).

The way I had it explained to me (by the office manager of the clinic I used to work at) is that clinic vs. hospital isn't based on hours open, but on services offered. So a place that does things like in-house bloodwork, rads, ultrasound, most surgeries, hospitalizing patients overnight, etc. would be considered a hospital, whereas a clinic would probably have fewer in-house capabilities and focus on preventive care. This was in Missouri, it probably varies by state.

That sucks, KD! I don't even know how I would react to that.

Today can gth. Why do sweet golden retriever service dogs have to get cancer 😢 It was so hard to keep my eyes from bugging out of my head when I felt this poor dog's LNs.

Thx. Sorry for the service dog and his lympahadopathy laden with cancer 🙁

Thanks, Doc-S!! I appreciate the sentiment 😍

Oh, I have no idea. There's veterinary "hospitals" and "clinics" here and it seems pretty random - just whatever owners decide to call their business; I don't think we have a legal definition or anything.

I didn't mean that I was right. I'm not (necessarily). It's purely a .... trivial, stupid thing. I admit that. It's the pedant in me, maybe.

But language-wise (not industry-wise) 'clinic' is more closely defined as a place that treats only outpatient, and 'hospital' is more closely defined as providing inpatient care, surgical care (in the human world), referral care, etc.

Since GPs provide surgical care it gets muddied in vet med. But the first definition of a clinic is: "an establishment or hospital department where outpatients are given medical treatment or advice, especially of a specialist nature."

I think of it as basically outpatient vs inpatient.

WTF? Like ... intentionally???

That's assault!

Screw that. If a client ever pulled that here, they would never be allowed in the door of any of our 7 hospitals. Period.

Physical assault - even if the injury was minor - is still assault. No bueno.

Wow. Glad you weren't hurt more seriously, Kaydubs.

Respect. I would be terrified to do a partial pancreatectomy.
I actually didn't do his because it was during school, but did do my other boy when his glucose also starting dropping... it actually wasn't bad at all. Their anatomy lends well to taking chunks off, though, so not nearly as terrifying as doing it in a dog or cat.

Like what the ACTUAL f. This is crazy! If not the owner, but their friend, I think practice manager or owner should call owner and let them know that their friend is not allowed to accompany them to appointments. (Assuming the owner was also there and knows the friend punched you?)

Glad you are ok, people are seriously crazy sometimes.

Did you ask her if she knows they require AI and C-sections?
Maybe once she finds that out it’ll dissuade her from doing it........
That is frustrating though

She used to breed them so I'm sure she knows everything about them except how terrible an idea it is to breed them. Sigh.

I had an MRI on my knee last night and I'm impatient and want to look at it NOW. Human med is so sloowwwwww!!

And apparently the Mizzou health system charges $20 for a copy of your imaging on CD, but the way around this is to ask your physician to request a copy on CD and have them give it to you. So that's what I'll be doing. But I don't see my sports med physician until MONDAY so I have to wait SO LONG to talk about whether I need surgery or not. The consensus is it's probably a torn meniscus. I just want to see how torn. 😀

haha, follow up. torn meniscus, how quaint.

.....I've got an obliterated ACL, a partially torn LCL and a huge chunk of articular cartilage MIA from the medial femoral condyle. Hooray! I've won not one, but TWO separate surgical procedures on my knee most likely. It's my lucky day. No, really. 😵

oh jeez, i hope you heal up quick after your surgeries!
my sister just had her acl replaced last march with part of her patellar tendon (lol two days before her birthday, how lucky for her)

Very sorry to hear about your knee injuries. Sounds like you're getting a (practically) new knee in the future. Is your other knee okay?

Ouch. you messed it up spectacularly. Feel better soon

After reading this my flu doesn't sound so bad. KDubs I can't believe that. I would have called the cops (if they didn't call them on me for punching back). Definitely I would tell the owner and not have that client ever in their again.

Nyanko, my sister had her meniscus torn in two places (doctor told her it tore like an old person not an athlete) and her ACL torn. Surgery on all. She is ok now but please do everything the doc says to do for rehab. My sister didn't and it took her so much longer to get better. (She still played varsity soccer her Sr. year - it happened first playoff game her Jr. year.) This year she tore her MCL but it didn't require surgery. So sorry about it.

I injured my other knee playing hockey 7 years ago, and never really got it fully worked up because the doctor I saw first kind of blew me off. It was unstable for a good 3 weeks or so at that time. I didn't do anything specific to rehab it but just kind of slowly went back to normal activity. So, in retrospect, probably not really "okay" but stable right now?

I probably missed it but what did you do to so thoroughly destroy this one?
