Officially heard back from everyone about vet school. Haven't gotten in anywhere, but was waitlisted at my IS (Cornell) and at Wisconsin, but with a pretty crappy spot on the waitlist. Second time applying.
All I have to say is

I'm kind of in the same place as you. 2nd time applicant and so far only a waitlist offer.
It is making my stomach twist because of the anticipation and so far the only cure is alcohol. Lots of alcohol.

I am also a second time applicant and pretty far down the OOS waitlist for Wisconsin. I'm still waiting to hear from two schools (interviewing at one this weekend) so I'm hoping I get better news from them because I'm not very hopeful about Wisconsin.
Agreed. This sounds like you need to set some boundaries. It's okay to say no, especially when you're out of your depth.
Yeah...I'm going to try and see if our counselor might be willing to help. Idk how she'd go about 'summoning' a student to come chat with her, but idk. Something needs to be said before clinics start because it's an issue that affects everyone.
This morning I woke up with a pain in my jaw and it wasn't until recently that I thought it may be a wisdom tooth coming out... Guess what? It is! It wouldn't big as much of a problem if my company wasn't switching dental companies right now and making the process a bit tedious.

Oakland oral surgery is fab and where my dad sends everyone
I personally cannot take it out unless you want me to use like a flathead screwdriver

I definitely agree with going to oral surgeon over just a dentist. Apparently you get much better pain meds/ have general anesthesia vs nitrous or local
And they have gone through a residency and this is literally what they do all day long, versus a general dentist who maybe extracts an adult molar once a month
My surgeon was phenomenal. I didn’t even felt the affected areas
(Granted my wisdom teeth removal surgery was a 3 for 1 surgery and it was the least invasive one, but still)
I had my wisdom teeth out with my regular dentist (all four, plus another molar extraction, and a bunch of fillings) with just local blocks and it was okay. It was a really really long day, but wasn't horribly painful and went well. My mom came to visit and kept on top of my pain meds and stuff though. My dentist offered to send me to an oral surgeon if I wanted knocked out, but said he could do it cheaper and he was comfortable doing it. He offered to split the work up into multiple visits but he was also willing to do it all at once since I wasn't being sedated/anesthetized. I don't regret it, but ymmv and it would really depend on the dentist imo. Ski is right that the oral surgeon probably does it more regularly.
Ugh I’m having to do my fillings all spread out and it’s terrible. Really wish they’d just get them all over at once.
All 4 of my wisdom teeth were impacted and needed significant drilling to be removed. He said he was mm from a major nerve that controls sensation in the face. I was swollen for over a week and super bruised. I'm very glad I want to an orthopedic surgeon and was out cold for that experience. I'd rather have my appendix removed 1000 times than repeat the wisdom teeth again.
All 4 of mine were impacted as well and there was a nerve tangled around the root of one, which of course was the one to then get dry socket. I've had multiple major surgeries and I would absolutely do them again before I'd repeat my wisdom teeth experience. Even better the original surgeon acted like I was being a baby when I called in about the pain. Ended up in the ER on christmas eve in quite possibly the worst pain I've ever felt. When I went for a follow-up with a different surgeon in the practice he put my films up and asked if it was the bottom right, then pointed out the nerve that was now entirely exposed. The only good thing was that they gave me nitrous before they put my IV in because I was too anxious to waiit for the sedation to kick in.
All of my friends who have gotten their wisdom teeth out have had a smooth experience. I tell them it's because I monopolized all the bad luck for them.
My sister did ok getting hers out but was very interesting on the meds they used. First they dosed her up and while waiting on the doctor to come back in she snuck back into the waiting room to encourage my mom to escape, since my mom hadn't been expecting to need to stay there while they did it. Then afterwards she asked my sunday school-teacher mother to get her a movie "with lots and lots of drugs and gay sex in it." Hence my decision to put off getting mine out until I was much older out of fear of what I might say if I did it while at my parents'.
how impacted were they?
When i was younger i had to have 2 premolars removed so I could get my canines drug down to where they were supposed to be. Went to a regular dentist for this. After like 15 minutes of wrenching on my face, he's working whatever plier things he's got with all his might. Felt like he was bracing his foot up on the chair I was sitting in to get some extra torque. Ended up snapping half of my tooth off, and just started shoving gauze into my mouth, never telling me what was going on or that something had gone wrong. He had to get my mom to take me to an oral surgeon to get them removed.
I only have/had upper wisdom teeth, and i got 1 removed because it started migrating on me while I was in the Marine Corps. Only had local blocks, and the Navy dentist got it out with minimal effort. I don't expect the next one to go so smoothly.

Mine were similar. I was fully knocked out, couldn't open my mouth much for a week. I remember having a rough recovery from anesthesia though.
Worst part was that since I couldn't really open my mouth, I was on a liquid diet. No one told me that sucking on a straw is like the worst thing you can do post-op...so painful. After that I just poured a lot of soup into my mouth lol.

I had 6 wisdom teeth, but I went to an oral surgeon and he got them all out without any issues. Also, he gave them to me and I was so high I thought they were pain pills and tried to argue with him that I needed more than six pain pills.

All these posts are making me super excited to get my wisdom teeth out at some point... (They've been coming in off and on for a few years, but I have no dental insurance and no money, womp womp)
I get to keep mine because I have enough room in the bone in my jaw and they’ve all fully erupted 
Ironic because mine were also impacted and I also got dry sockets and had to go see my surgeon on Christmas Eve. He opened up the office just for me bc the office was closed that day. He packed them with lidocaine gauze and it was a toooooon better. Dry sockets is up there as the worst pain of my life. I think I got them because they never told me that I shouldn't spit normally. You're not supposed to use any suction in your mouth, including gathering spit. I've made sure to tell everyone to do their homework before surgery unlike me.

My uncle's a dentist, so he made my mom get mine out ASAP. Which ended up being the day after my 14th birthday, aka during Christmas Break. Worst break ever
I got to spend my 21st birthday/ over half of summer break in a full mouth cast. So I agree with you there!
These posts make me glad my wisdom teeth are long gone and I never have to deal with that pain again. I have found memories of being curled in the fetal position on my parents kitchen floor crying and puking up Vicodin. Fun times....
I had all four of mine out at the same time. by a surgeon. with anesthesia. None of them were pointed the right way, and all of them had roots wrapped around bone. yay, me! I felt very much bad, was not eating/drinking that much, and then came down with stomach flu. that was fun! the really fun part is when I went to the doctor because the flu really did not go away. 4 weeks after my surgery, found out I was pregnant! ultrasound at 8 weeks after my surgery, (because they thought I was carrying twins) showed that no, actually, apparently, I was pregnant at the time of the surgery. (even tho I had 4, yes 4 negative pregnancy tests during that time.) I had several ultrasounds with him, counting fingers and toes and stuff! but he came out fine. well except, he does have my sense of humor....

I only had 3 wisdom. Have had one pulled because impacted while the other 2 are still up by my sinus cavity somewhere. On the other hane I have about $10k in my mouth. Had 6 baby teeth pulled when I was about 6 years old. The orthodontist grew my jaw. 2 sets of braces. Then had my 11 year old molars pulled? (I've had so many teeth pulled I don't even know anymore) Then last round of braces. Then my one wisdom tooth then probably the last 2 sometime during vet school unless they decide to stay in my head which would be nice.
My brother on the other hand never had teeth pulled except his wisdom teeth at 16 so yeah. Yay genetics

yeah i had i think 3 or 4 teeth pulled because the adult teeth werent pushing them out and two rounds of braces plus a bit of invisalign to fix one tooth (which hasnt fixed....
so potentially might go for some more braces for a few months bc brackets can do more to move the teeth) but i get to keep all my adult teefssister had her wisdom teeth removed and my brother needs his removed but he hasnt gotten them out yet
My mouth is also expensive. Braces at least 2-3x (I had to get braces so I could get braces...), headgear, expanders, invisalign, all of it.What?!?! You poor soul.

The first time I ever went to an orthodontist I was 6, and he told my mother that if she had waited until I was 14 to bring me in that I would have needed surgery to break my jaw and fix all of the damage my mouth was going to grow into without a lot of early intervention.

Are you much younger than me? I'm 29. It used to be that orthodontists wouldn't start anything until you were at least 11/12 years old. I had to wait so I had all the orthodontic work through high school. Shortly after that, they started saying earlier is better.
depends on where you lived/went because my dad has always been early intervention and has been practicing since '90. I'm a few years younger than you, but I got my first set at age 6 and my siblings both had RPEs around 7 or 8 or so
