Hands down vicodin is the worst. I also got vicodin for my wisdom teeth (bottom two were mm from impaction), but they took out all four, two weeks before my senior pictures.

My long orthodontic career started the day before 9/11, actually. I remember sitting in the office the next day for a follow up appointment and watching the towers fall on the TVs in the treatment room.

You're about 6-7 years older than me depending on how our birthdays fall

I was 13 on that day in September. So 7 years older than you. But interesting how quickly things can change or how different people recommend different things.
 
I also have an expensive mouth. Full braces, had to get screws as anchors in my jaw because 2 teeth needed to get pulled far forward. When I was in middle school I had to have 2 molars extracted because they erupted with no enamel and immediately cavitied. And then the jaw surgery of course. :laugh:

I first went to the orthodontist at age 7 (before I'd even lost all my baby teeth, probably). I got a retainer that I had until I was 11, at which time I got braces that I had for 2 years. I pleaded with my parents as a kid that I didn't care that my teeth were crooked, but they (thankfully) didn't listen - they were baaaaaad. I for sure would have cared eventually.

I'm (slightly) older than you, and got my first retainer at age 7, so maybe it just varied by practitioner at that point?

When I was little my teeth were so crooked that I apparently called them Monster Teeth to anyone who would listen :laugh: Glad my mom was so vigilant about getting me to an orthodontist, she has no doubt saved me a lot of grief in my life
 
My teeth are horrible in the sense that I get frequent cavities despite regular brushing/flossing, but I am very glad to have never needed braces.
 
I had awful teeth, multiple spacers to widen my jaw. I had tooth that didn't want to come down on its own, was stuck up in my sinus cavity so they had to surgically go in and attach a chain to it, then attach that chain to my braces. They would shorten that chain each time I went to the orthodontist so that it slowly pulled that tooth into a normal position. I can't even tell you how many teeth I had pulled just so that I would have enough space in my mouth for other teeth. Lots and lots of extractions, braces, spacers, weird chains, weird bands. Took a while but they got it all together. And now my teeth are starting to become crooked again. Sigh. Bottom worse than the top. Need braces again, but don't want right now. I will probably do it in the next couple of years.

it can be great if youre a candidate. but to anyone who is considering invisalign, i would recommend going to the invisalign website and finding an orthodontist who does tons and tons of cases (they have different icons on the search map) because you will get better results simply because they have done this more and are usually pickier when changing the positioning of the teeth on the computer model versus someone who doesnt have as much experience with invisalign. just my two cents.

I have had my teeth looked at. Invisalign would correct about 80-85% of what is needed, I would need actual braces to correct the rest of the way... for the bottom teeth. The top teeth invisalign would work without needing braces.

Yeah, I was originally told to wear them every day all day, then only at night, then every other night, then every few nights, then I was told that they are no longer needed. Yeah, not how that works. Now it is just recommended to wear them indefinitely at least at night.

yeahhhh my dad says wear them for as long as you'd like to keep your teeth straight haha
 
All of the electronics in my life are trying to fail all at once, sigh. My phone has been ancient and has been progressively becoming glitchier over more than a years time, which has been annoying but not catastrophic. Now the camera no longer really works as of last week. Most of the time it just fails all together, but when it does open its all static-y ick. I use my phone to call, text, take pictures, use GPS and occasionally play games, so this is kind of a big deal. Plus its the easiest way for me to evaluate patient charts outside of ICU throughout the day, and to take values and gas information home at night since I dont have software access.

This morning when we were fiddling around with the camera, my micro SD card did something dumb and apparently I reformatted it and erased all of the pictures off of it. I didn't realize what i had done (i didn't really look at the error message, i just assumed it was asking me if i wanted to save files to the SD card since it does that after the phone has been messed with), so I had already saved new pictures over top of it when I realized the mistake. Trying to recover the files, not very hopeful. Nothing was irreplacably lost, but I'm still pretty upset about it. I had thousands of pictures on there. I thought I had backed it up to my computer within the last few months, but cant find anything newer than 2016. I don't let it back up to the cloud because i take so many and it fills it up too fast. stupid.

Tonight my microwave has decided to stop heating. Its ancient and was free from family, so not the end of the world, however it is going to be a royal pain to get a new one in NYC and get rid of this one. Grr.

My computer hasn't been doing well over the last few years, but I'm just hoping it holds out until at least the end of my residency...
 
But do any of you have a retainer with fake teeth implants because you didn’t have enough teeth :bucktooth:

I still wear my (now 15+ year old) retainer that I got post-braces. I think my dentist here makes retainers, so I may have to see about getting a new and improved (and less grody) one.

Texas has mountains! They're just... not as tall as Washington mountains on average :hilarious:

Although I have to confess, living in the place with the most 14ers in the country has given me a very skewed perception of what qualifies as a mountain, I looked up the ones in TX and almost scoffed that 8k feet somehow qualified as one lol

I haven't worn mine regularly in at least 10 or 11 years, I think the last time I put them in at all was... 7 years ago? But my teeth are still relatively straight, I mainly needed braces because my mouth was too small for my teeth.

I mean... it’s not even just the height. The prominence on those rocky hills of theirs is like 1,000 ft and that’s just sad.

Yeah, I needed mine cause I sucked my thumb when I was little and it gave me an open bite. I have a permanent retainer on the top still (bottom fell out twice and I refused to get it put back in the last time), so my teeth are straight. Just gave a slight open bite again.

Live with this problem daily as a CO native :laugh:
 
I asked to have my permanent lower retainer removed within a few months of having it. I have a long tongue, and the wire was slashing it to pieces. So my bottom teeth are kinda crooked again. I broke my upper retainer a few years after I got my braces off, and they seem fine. They were pretty straight from the beginning, I just had a minor overjet.

I just took my retainer out. But yeah, I have permanent retainers, one connecting the top two incisors, and then one connecting all four bottom incisors. It’s annoying to clean around it, but I like having straight teeth.

Well... finished up a hard week of exams in Immunology, Histology, and Anatomy. I did pretty well on Immuno and Histology.. and Anatomy has yet to be graded! However, after the exam, my mom called me to tell me that my grandma is in respiratory failure and has anywhere from a few days to 6 months to live... prayers would be much appreciated at this time.... thanks in advance

Late to the party, but:

1. Also an expensive mouth over here. Braces for 2.5 years, full-time headgear for 1 year, all 4 wisdom teeth removed.

2. I haven't worn my retainer in 4.5 years because I accidentally flushed it down the toilet and my orthodontist told me not to bother getting another unless my teeth changed majorly. I think they might have changed a little but they still look fine.

2. If anyone reads this and is terrified of wisdom teeth removal, I got all 4 out and was able to eat solids by the next morning/never needed to take any of my painkillers. I was knocked out for it and very grateful for that. All I remember is the nurse/assistant/whatever her role was getting pissed off at my curiosity about everything she was doing while prepping the IV/induction. So it isn't horrible for everyone!
 
I had braces (got some weird mouth thing first that hurt like hell, lots of spacers) in middle school.

Then I asked my dentist to check for wisdom teeth in college/late high school. He told me I didn’t have any. He also removed the wire/permanent retainer at the back of my lower jaw teeth.

A year later, 4 wisdom teeth coming in, uppers severely impacted (facing my cheek...permanently biting my cheek sounds fun). Go to oral surgeon.

All of my lower teeth shift. I require Invisalign (4 pairs of retainers in total)

Now...they shifted again. Gave up on the retainers. Whatevs. Had 2 root canals so far.

I hate teeth and corresponding pain more than anything (except migraine and mental pain).
 
Soooo tired of people not knowing how to drive and hitting me because of it. I’m driving down a main road and a girl pulls out from a parking lot literally right in front of me. Slammed on brakes, honked, and swerved but we hit. :punch:

And I wouldn’t be so angry except that:
  1. I just got over the last time someone hit me.
  2. She messed up my baby- that I got because of the last accident.
  3. On impact, something wonky happened to my hand and it hurt baaad. Went to ER, and the radiologist wasn’t there on Friday nights (????)
  4. I have a sprained wrist and a fancy splint and lots of pain. Waiting for the radiologist to call me today to see what’s up.
  5. I have several tests next week that I need to study for/ I would like two hands for.

Problem of living in a college town. Bunch of youngn's who don't have developed driving skills. Your defensive skills will increase dramatically during your time here. I am glad for once I learned to drive in LA. lol
