Classic in-law stuff happening. My husband recently got a text from his dad saying 'Hey, just checking in, and just FYI we will be at the hospital during the birth so keep us posted!' Kind of key that it came from his dad and not his mom, we assume she told him to send it thinking it would be received better than if it were from her directly.

Uhhhh....news to us? Husband was good about shutting it down, but then of course my MIL melted down/threw a tantrum over it. Yet more stress on our plates as time is suddenly moving at a rapid pace and we feel like we have gotten nothing done/prepped. We honestly don't even want visitors probably for a few weeks although I know they will show up uninvited/unannounced within 24 hours of us letting them know the kid popped out.

All she wants is to get her pictures to post on FB anyways (which is a boundary we will also be setting...**** is so scary in regards to privacy and protecting kids these days).
Your in laws sound so much like my sister's in laws it's almost creepy

“We will be there during the birth” is such a crazy assumption. I’m sorry you have to deal with people who don’t understand boundaries. I don’t want anyone there besides my husband either.
Even if we didn't have a rough relationship with them, all of my business is just gonna be out there in the open, why would I ever want my MIL/FIL (who, again, I am in no way/shape/form close to) to see me naked? I wouldn't even want my own mother in there.

The saddest part is I think there are some underlying feelings about this being their first biological grandchild playing a role. Husband's older sister has two adopted children. Some quick, quiet comments (you'd miss them if you weren't paying attention) have been said since we told them about the pregnancy that I really hope our niece and nephew did not pick up on. I've already told MIL to keep those thoughts to herself once, I have no problem saying it again but louder the next time. But I assume they feel entitled to this process because they clearly feel 'robbed' of it from their first two grandkids? Idk, they're ****ing weird man.

lol tell your sister I am so sorry for her. 'Monster in law' is a phrase for a reason, I guess?

One of many gifts from divorcing was being able to block my former MIL. She was such a vile person who loved to make digs at me over weight and family status (my family was blue collar northerners, my ex-wife's family was southern debutantes). It felt like I lost 100 lbs overnight when I no longer had to speak to her.

@pp9 I password protected myself at the hospital because I was worried my inlaws were going to show up during induction/birthing. Legit the hospital will be like we dont have anyone here by that name if they didnt have the password. Iwas not playing around...hubs forgot the password coming back from grabbing dinner and almost didn't get to come back in though😅

They don't even know which hospital we're going to be at, so I'm hoping I wouldn't need to go that far? They also are completely unfamiliar with the area and we have at least 5 major hospitals within 20 miles of our house, so they would have to be really lucky with a guess if they were going to try to show up anyways (but we're also not even telling them when labor starts).

Also there is no GPS tracking of our phones or anything like that, even though his mom actually tried to start that last week (with no conversation beforehand, just sent him an add on the app) and he just denied the app invite lol.

I just don't get it. It's insane. You'll meet the kid when we are ready. I know she wants to be the main character of the storyline she's envisioning in her head, but I will never be able to grasp that level of delusion.

Ugh I'm sorry.

Makes me miss my ex's mom though, she was amazing. But my ex was an idiot. Can't have it all, I suppose

Today was a shift where my goal was just to get the pancreatitis turned addisonian patient to the end of my shift alive and I feel like I did a ****ty job of my management. The patient is doing great, heart rate and potassium improving. I didn't get too crazy beyond just fluid rehydration. But the overnight doctor was just giving me bad vibes that I didn't do a good job.

Totally could be because I was tired and hungry and I'm reading too much into it. I'm on day 3/4 with all three being inpatient and triage. I've probably seen 50 cases alone over the last 3 days it we include the hospitalized kiddos. And I have one more day tomorrow, thankfully the swing shift.

Sometimes its hard to remember you can't be the 100% doctor 100% of the time and you just gotta do the best you can. Thankfully my day doctor tomorrow is a long term member of the team and I can ask her honestly to look through the case with me to tell where to be better.

I have all of my vet school notes and references that I use frequently in Notability on my iPad and it's gotten soooo slow and laggy and annoying - is anyone else using Notability and can you tell me if yours has gotten bad? I'm not sure if it's because I don't pay for a subscription (I was grandfathered in because I bought the app outright before it turned into a subscription model), or maybe because my iPad is old & tired? I can and would get a new iPad if it would fix this problem, but I want to make sure it's not an app issue.

I've been having the same problem and so have my classmates. It's also started suddenly not loading pdfs sometimes. Which of course would be after I've paid for the upgraded version 🫠

I do not use to notability, but GoodNotes instead, and the same thing keeps happening to me. I also have an older model iPad. Not sure if that helps you at all, but I am also considering trying to trade my current iPad in for a newer model!

Ugghhhhh I rly don't want to have to move >1200 notes to a different app, why would Notability betray me like this

Guess maybe I need a new iPad... if only I didn't also need a new computer rn lol

My iPad is about two years old now and I pay for good notes and have not had this issue. If you’re not wedded to Apple, a surface might be a good option! If you do want to stick with Apple, it sounds like they’re launching new products this year so I would try to tough it out until Memorial Day; they tend to have good sales around that time especially on a model or two older than the newest launch

Notability randomly gets super laggy for me too despite my iPad being pretty new. I found this reddit thread and it always works for me, so might be worth a shot:

My conspiracy theory is that they're including increasingly more AI into their software that it really isn't equipped to support yet 🥲

my conspiracy theory was that they were making my subscription-free version laggy to get me to pay for a sub or something

I've been married to this ecosystem for >15 years, can't turn back now

Oh I’m so deep into it. I have a Mac, an iMac, an Apple Watch, an iPad, AirPods, and an iPhone and the interface between all of them is so undeniably easy (a lot of these were gifts or bought very on sale otherwise I would not have spent that much money).

I miss Chicago. I want to go home and get PACZKI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can never find any around here that doesn't sell out at 6am. Back home it's everywhere and for more than just a day or two. I could even find it at Walmart then get it on clearance on ash wednesday lol. I'll be close to home in a couple years 😞 I miss the food culture more than anything I think.

OH I should make my uncle Yubi's fritule recipe. It's the only recipe I have from my family who immigrated from Croatia and it just so happens to be a fat Tuesday food. Let's go 😎

Re Notability and Goodnotes.

I switched to Notability after Goodnotes kept crashing and bugging out last semester after their big update. Now Notability isn’t as bad but it’s getting there

Noteful is more stable and is better for diagrams but I highly prefer being able to use search on my handwritten notes.

you can! (as long as your handwriting is legible enough lol, mine isn’t always). i also use one note (free with my school outlook account) and the only problem i have with it is that if i accidentally delete a page on my ipad there seems to be no way to recover it for some reason. otherwise it’s been fine

Have you tried Ye Olde Donut Shoppe over on Neil? I am admittedly horrible about remembering about paczki day so only had some first year, but they let people place orders for pick up if you order at least a day ahead

THIS LOAN SITUATION IS DRIVING ME INSANE 😭😭😭😭 do i need to take an additional $200k out OR NOT?!?!
I saw what I assume was an anon post by you elsewhere…all I have to say is I hope whoever you talked to was wrong, as frustrating as that would also be. Fingers crossed it all works out for you and isn’t as bleak as it seems right now.

yeah…that was me. i hope they were wrong as well, they said it was the most likely scenario and to prepare for the worst but hope for the best

Good to know! I'm going to mark my calendar for next year lol

Same here in Denver all winter. We're so far behind on snow, it's irreparable for this season
We've had maybe 1.5ish feet sitting for most of January. We got a TON of snow and the high was like maybe 20F for 2+ weeks so it sat around longer than it usually does.

We're in a heat wave now with highs in the 40s/50s right now so the entire earth is a sludgy muddy mess from all the snow melt ugh. We actually had an air quality warning with this melt.

The dogs and I had to evacuate my house last night because of a wildfire approaching my town coupled with high winds. My house wasn’t technically in the forced evacuation zone, but the line was just a couple blocks away and I decided to go ahead and pack a few things and just leave because the roads were getting congested by people evacuating and the smoke in the air was awful. Spent the night at my parents’ house 45 mins away and am back home today. Luckily no one’s homes burned and though the fire isn’t out, it’s in the country outside of town now.

Man, I feel for that student. I hope they're okay. So many of us have made major 'mistakes'
The owners of the cat I spayed last semester never returned my call or text to give me a post surgery update. I have to assume that means she’s fine but there’s a tiny voice in my head that wonders all the time if she’s not.

yeah i’m not sure how posting about a student that isn’t yourself who may or may not have made a mistake was appropriate…key word is student = still very much learning.

i hope the student and the pup are both okay 🫶🏻

The rant was about the dog suffering for days over something that was preventable with more supervision
If you were not in that surgery you should not be making that assumption. Surgeons who have been practicing for longer than we’ve been alive make fatal mistakes. The only people who know if that mistake was preventable or not are the student, the supervising doctor, and the techs in the room.

Me with so many ER cases that I'll never forget. All of the hail mary throws I tried for who knows how many animals...
We had a few oncology patients who just dropped off the face of the earth, even those who spent years treating their pet. Owner stopped returning calls and emails, stopped making appointments. I know that sometimes they don’t tell us because they’re hurting, but I hope they know that we continue to think about them and their pets.
