Idk what to do with myself this summer. I unexpectedly got an externship with a humane society. It's specifically for veterinary students, so I feel like I'll get far more experience that is directly related to being a veterinarian (i.e., doing physical exams, surgery). The one thing holding me back is the distance. During rush hour it'll take me 40-50 minutes each way and I already don't love driving.
My other option is to work as a veterinary assistant. The clinic is 10 minutes away and pays $3 more per hour. My only worry is that I'll be stuck doing assistant things and not get to watch surgeries, listen to the vets' talk to clients, and be involved with other everyday tasks expected of a veterinarian. Maybe my perception of being a vet assistant is wrong though since I've been in wildlife medicine for so long. The externship is giving me 3 days to decide and I'm stressing :,)
