Slip her some ace.

mm i think we need xylazine, propofol, isoflurane, sevoflurane, dexdomitor, or anything with strong anesthetic properties will do.

we've also considered darting her and paying off one of the AV guys to lock her body in a closet:meanie:

I just got the iPhone 4S! I've been dying to get an iPhone for years and now I finally have one!!! 😀😀😀

I found out the Raleigh fire department is pretty quick at responding thanks to a building fire. Spending several early-morning hours outside in the parking lot made for a pretty rough wake-up, though.

I finally saw a rainbow in Grenada!!! For as often as it rains when it's sunny out, I can't believe it took me 2.5 months to finally see one (and apparently they are quite common!)

Did well on my cell bio exam, survived another week of Anatomyhell, and spent the evening dipping various foods into a chocolate fountain before watching movies.

Mmmm, chocolate covered cheesecake. I'll run you off tomorrow.

We got our PS3 back yesterday!! They had called us last week with the estimate and we told them to go ahead and fix it (local company, not Sony so we just dropped it off). On Thursday this week, we got the same call. I guess it hadn't been documented that we were called. So we expected it to be ready next week. Nope!! It was done yesterday! Not that I can sit and play for hours this weekend, but I do have the ability to watch netflix on a bigger screen again.

We are getting LOTS of snow and I have a nasty head cold. The perfect excuse to stay home, order in, and watch scary movies and football all weekend (and maaaaybe study for this week's anatomy practical).

woooo just got offered a job at an emergency clinic!!! I love emergency and critical care nursing so im sure excited!!!

Now my biggest problem is that i have too many jobs!!! I'll just have to quit the one i hate - what a shame!!!

Finished with the exam stretch from hell. We've had something like 10 exams in the past few weeks, plus "quizzes" and all our usual crap. Now we have a whole week without any exams, and only 1 little quiz!
Had Parasit exams today, which I've been sorta struggling with (ok, I admit to being lazy and not studying enough for the last exam), and it went really really well. Aced the multiple choice, just have to wait and see how the lab and essays went, but my grade in this class is definitely on its way up.

So glad to have some time to relax...and clean...and play with my pony and dogs...and go hiking and go to fall festivals and cook and bake and eat and drink bottles of wine. 😍

Dear cat who is deaf; Thank you for being adorable. Even when you throw all my stuff on the floor and stand around crying as loud as you can until someone comes to get you, you manage to redeem yourself by shoving your way onto my lap, purring, and passing out. This makes me incredibly happy.

I love my stupid cats. Deaf Cat is especially precocious when he wants to be.

10 years in the human medical field hasn't been for naught.

Mind you, I've only been shadowing in the vet world now for 3 months. When I asked to observe an emergency hemi-laminectomy & spinal cord decompression yesterday, I was honored when doc said "yes." I was completely shocked, when once in the OR he turned & said "scrub in, you're assisting." Totally out of my comfort zone; however, the experience was awesome and doc is such a soft-spoken, laid back, talk-you-through-every-step kind of guy.

Surgery went well, but here's where I get to toot my own horn. He crashed afterwards while trying to take post-op films, & my assessment skills are what brought it to doc's attention. I've run many a human code, but yesterday was my first veterinary code. Scared the shiz-nit out of all of us, but we got him back. Doc couldn't thank me enough.

Little guy was doing well when I left last night. I just hope the surgery turns out to be a success.

K-9Dane-That is such a great story. You must be feeling so good inside that you are already doing such good in the world of veterinary medicine. Great call, seeing that the animal was crashing after surgery. I was in a situation where the same thing happened, but we lost the patient. That memory still weighs on me to this day (it's been over a year). I know I will have to accept that sometimes we lose patients in order to be a good vet, but it's hard when I think of the owner and how it could have gone differently. Well, moving forward...anyway, glad yours is doing well. And congrats on already being a wonderful asset!

I love all of your deaf cat stories!

My Bengal does this. When he wants something he jumps up onto my dresser or TV stand and starts deliberately knocking things off and meowing while staring directly at me. Like he stands there, paw cupped, and just knocks things over and doesn't even look at them.

On a slightly tangential but related note, I'm adopting a deaf (and probably vestibular) Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever puppy. 🙂

Yay! I'm so jealous - I was wishing i could have taken it! You'll have to introduce me soon! 🙂

Dorian's attitude is less "I'm going to knock **** down until you pay attention" (although sometimes he does, and sometimes he stands in the other room yelling until you go and get him), and more "I'M SO BIG!" while rampaging around and having no perception of where his feet are. Little turd.

My 17-month old Newfoundland passed her TDI test tonight! Now I can take her to nursing homes and also to the "Kids Reading to Dogs" program at our local library. Yah!

I love "The Kids Reading to Dogs" programs. Such a cute idea! :]

Yeah, I'm excited about it. Apparently some kids who have trouble learning to read find it easier to read a book to a dog because the dogs aren't judgmental and don't correct them. I can just see my dog sitting there as if she really understands the stories. I am going to work with her at home, reading to her and giving her treats so she will sit patiently when she gets with a child. I just love the way dogs can be so important in people's lives.

My pit puppy is very playful and jumpy, but when you tell her something (a story or read a book), she will sit down with you and listen the whole time. She even moves her head crooked as if she's wondering about parts of the story. Very cute. And it seems like I have two completely different dogs. Hahaha

Jemappellejane-thanks for the newfie love. I just love doing things with my newfs...they are the greatest dogs. The one that just passed the TDI test is a black one with the white chest, like yours. Eventually my somewhat "naughty" not quite one year old landseer will take the test, too.

Petpony-You should get your pit bull into TDI. It would not only be good for the kids to read to him but also for the public at large to dispel the pit bull myth. It sounds like he's perfect for this!

Oooops! I called your dog a boy (he)...I mean "she's" perfect for TDI kids reading to dogs program.

She's actually my mom's dog and she doesn't want me to take her to college once I get an apartment here. But I already talked to a pitbull rescue organization and as soon as I get an apartment, they will help me find the right dog. Although that might have to wait another year after getting an apartment. I am part of the guide dog foundation here, so I am supposed to get a puppy next year. But there is a large waiting list, so if I do not get one, getting that pit is the plan.

I absolutely LOVE pitbulls. Chloe must be the best dog we have ever had. For sure she is the sweetest one so far. I don't think she even knows how to really bite. Hahaha. But yeah, everybody who really gets to know here, just really loves her.

Once I have my own pit here at college, I want to start a pitbull awareness program. They always get the wrong puplicity everywhere and I want to help stop that. I plan on doing as many programs as possible with him/her. TDI will be on top of the list though. I want to show that they are as good as any other dog with the right environment. It is not the breed that is bad, but the people who raise them wrong. I am already looking into different things that I can do for this program. I am very excited for it! :]

I so love the pit bulls, too. I recommend a book "The Pit Bull Placebo" which takes us through the history of breed-specific discrimination. It really will give you some historic and legal information if you are serious about starting a club or awareness group. Oh, I also raised puppies for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. What an awesome experience that was (we had labs). So many great things that dogs can do and that we can do for and with them!

I'll try to find the book, thanks!

Even if I won't have my own dog next year, I will be very excited to get a guide dog puppy. I would be a puppy walker for a year and teach him/her certain things. It would live with me during that time and I would take it to class and many other places. It's a very popular program here. Once they go through this puppy training, they will go to NYC for their guide dog training. It's an awesome program!

If you come to Penn for school you should take the "Vet Pets" class. It has lectures about all the kinds of service dogs and therapy dogs and a ton of opportunities to do therapy with your own dogs 🙂

So cute... I want a NSDTR so bad. You will have to post pictures.

My Rave: I am FINALLY going to be getting my first veterinary related equine experience next week; it has been so difficult to find an equine vet that will let my shadow, but with a little help from one of the vets that comes around to do orthopedic surgeries at the vet clinic I currently work at I was able to get an in! So excited!! I will be updating the schools with this experience first thing Tuesday night when I get done.

I hope you have a great experience!! I did my first equire shadowing 2 weeks ago.....it was a disaster. So incredibly awkward, wasn't actually allowed to do anything, no one explained anything as they went along or seemed to be able to answer my questions directly....plus they kept trying to recruit me to their various churches (no offense intended, it just really made me uncomfortable).

As long as they actually explain what they are doing and why, it has to be pretty educational. Have fun!!

Just was elected an officer position in my favorite club <3 I'm very very happy.

AWESOME night of emergencies at our school animal clinic!! and we just hired a criticalist so i am basically in heaven getting to work with him (since i am an ECC junkie and want to specialize in it!)

First Saturday off in 3 months! It's incredible how much you start hating people who are all, "TGIF!" when you have to work EVERY SATURDAY. I enjoyed the experience, but after applications and with (hopefully) upcoming interviews, I'm ready to glide a little. I still work every other Saturday, but I welcome the change! Now to start cleaning my room and working through piles of dirty laundry....

I know what you mean as far as working every Saturday! Hooray for one off!

Can you do that? I was under the impression that most/all schools will not accept updates after the applications are submitted unless you want to bring it up during interviews.

I believe both Wisconsin and Mizzou let you!

I can finally walk normally after breaking my toe! 😀

Also, I just received from a family friend local Angus ground beef and 2 roasts.... me and the bf will be eating good for a while since I think I got 10 lb of meat!

We got our histology midterm marks back today. I may have to revise my opinion of hating histology. I somehow managed to get an A.

Though I'm not convinced it's really my mark. Either they input the wrong mark, or I had a slew of lucky guesses on the lab portion. 😱

I finally mustered up the balls to calculate my Org. I grade going into the end of the semester and finals.

92.1. What?

Who would have thought the ******* old man who took ten years off for manual labor and almost failed high school would be dropping A's in O-chem.

Anything is possible, kids.

*smug* 😀

No need to be smug at you... so... Congrats!

I finally officially got to work at a horse show. lol Usually I pick up some poles when they get knocked down or help a few minutes with loading the jumps onto the trailer, but I never get paid and it's just so that my bf will get done faster and we can go home. But no. I actually fully worked six hours and got paid on Sunday. $100. And I worked hard! I'm so sore and have bruises on my shoulders from carrying like 50 poles and all those boxes, flower boxes and standards we had to load onto the trailer.. ughh.. 2 hunter rings and a jumper ring.. but so worth it. I hope that I now get the chance to work at some more shows when I go with my bf. It's some nice extra money. :]

A year ago, one of the liquor stores in town told me I couldnt get my favorite beer in this state because the alcohol content was too high.

I dont know what's changed in OK's liquor laws, but another store in town now carries some beer from my all time favorite brewery, and is able to order my all time favorite type of beer from that brewery <3 <3 <3

Oklahoma is lookin' up! (The lack of decent beer was one of my major "cons" to this school!)

Passed my second cell biology midterm today which was probably the most difficult exam I've ever taken in my life. Had a good workout, came home and busted out my professional development homework, watched an (awesome!!) episode of Glee, and wrote my speech for tomorrow's class elections (running for President!). My mom is now proofreading my speech and once that's all done I'm going to BED!

Lol, well that was an easy fix for the state of Oklahoma to gain some appeal 🙂
