Did you know Oscar Mayer makes a nitrate and nitrite free bacon? It's yummy without all the carcinogens. And it's not too much more expensive than the regular stuff.

👍 The only kind of bacon I buy now. It is soooooo good and so much better for you.

My app was not working so I missed the bacon talk.

I used to like my bacon limp and dipped in ketchup.
Now I like the vegan bacon, cooked crisp and dipped in ketchup.

I went on a nut shopping spree at the bulk store. Now I am eating Brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, almonds, sesame crisps, dried apricots and dark chocolate chunks as a snack (with blueberries).

We stocked up on soy cheese at the Organic grocer. The boyfriend came home with a huge box of seaweed crisps. They are actually very good to snack on. Thinner than the stuff in sushi, but very crispy with a hint of salt.

Mmm.

I buy them in bulk and they're not as expensive 🙂

I'll have to look at that then. With my roommate moving out, I'll have the whole kitchen to myself. I can be more organized with food etc. haha I've been eating horribly. I'll have the big fridge and little freezer to myself and will actually know what's in there. And can go shopping for more stuff because it'll fit. So lots of healthy food will be coming in starting January. I know it makes me feel better when I eat right. I sleep better, too. So gotta make an effort to do that again.

My coworker stopped me today to tell me I look good and like I've lost weight. I weighed myself on the dog sale cause I'm cool like that and I've lost 25 pounds since I started working here. About 8 of those were in the last few weeks.

I use our dog scale all the time. I always walk over the horse one, too, to see how they compare.

Done!!!! Now I get to bake cookies, watch tv and movies, and play with Baby for four weeks!

Jealous. I'm waiting until Jan 5th for mine to come home. I miss my family's dogs so much. They have two other Bostons back home. They are some of the best dogs ever.

Yeah I saw that a few months ago. I'll have to try it!

That's fantastic! Nice job! :claps:

Unless you're talking BBQ pork... (Also smoked by definition) Mmmmm

BBQ pork is always the ultimate test of my decision to not eat pork

I just ranted in thread? Well, my parents are amazing. They are going to cover the cost and we can pay them back instead so we can close on time without waiting for the bank's answer. The whole mess is fixable and we don't have to move in with my parents because our lease will be up on the apartment. I'm so freaking relieved.

Yay! How nice of your parents! I'm so happy for you!

Today was an all around awesome day. The last of my long term dogs got adopted today. A coworker told me I look good. I got an interview. One of my volunteers told me I don't get enough credit and that I do an awesome job. And I have cute cats to cuddle with.

It's yummy. Also baking it in a broiling pan (I think that's what it's called. It's the one with the slats over a regular pan) helps cut down on the fat a little.

Might be getting a kitten this week or next week already instead of after New Years! 😍

Will be looking at this one if they still have her at the shelter here..

Yay! I love kitties! Congratulations! She is gorgeous!

Congrats Hedgiehog! I am so jealous that you lost that much weight without trying! I plan to get on it over break, but I know the holidays are the worst time.

A bit of retrospective raving...

At NCSU we have a "blue book" (although it's different colours for different years) that has a bunch of our hands on skills that we're supposed to accomplish before the end of our four years. I just updated mine online, and I have over 15% done! Which doesn't seem like a lot, but considering we haven't actually had any of the technical skills in classes and it's all been from me getting out and into wet labs/selectives/spay-neuter trips/etc, I'm pretty psyched.

I think I did a really good job of getting out there and getting experience this semester... just need to work on my study habits (and getting up earlier 🙄) and get the grades up and everything will be golden. 😀

After being behind on what I planned to to at the beginning of the week, I've actually done a little more than I'd planned to today! I'm totally going to finish my lab report tomorrow, and everything will be grand from there. 😀

Rave: I got an awesome graduation present in the mail today.. A really nice pullover jacket and sweatpant set with Mizzou on them.....

Rant: starting to feel the pressure of this application.. I feel like it would be bad luck to wear them... So I have folded them nicely and put them away until after I hear back from them after the interview.. That is, if it's good news...

I'm not even vegan (though I do try to be conscientious about where my food comes from and rarely eat meat) and I always make espresso drinks that way. 👍

👍👍👍 This is how I eat too 🙂

Use soymilk and ditch the whipped cream. I'm not even vegan (though I do try to be conscientious about where my food comes from and rarely eat meat) and I always make espresso drinks that way. 👍

I plan on doing that with Starbucks frapps (mmm frapps).

The local fast food chain where I get my $2.49 ice Capps do not offer soy milk 🙁 I would have to ask if they would make it without. It if it not drinkable, I could add my own. That seems like too much work though 😛

If I want that personal trainer that I talked about on the Rant thread, I have to cut back on my fast food consumption. It should be pretty easy now if I just avoid that one chain (which I was spending $25 a month on for food and drinks).

Now I want a frapp 😛

Maybe you could bring some soy milk to them for them to use? 😀

Oh, and the calico kitten is still available! She's already six months by now and I was wanting a younger one, but I'm still gonna go look at her today or tomorrow. She just looks so adorable in the pictures and I gotta give her a chance.

😍

thats fantastic! keep up the great work 🙂

Can you really do that?
Some fast food places will not even warm up a baby bottle for someone.

I don't know. I feel like there's some places where they would if you're a regular, but fast food places.. meh.

Tim Hortons? I'm kind of surprised they don't have soy milk with all the lactose intolerant people out there, and with how shelf stable it is. 🙁

That might be some contamination issue. They have no idea if your soymilk has been stored properly or will bring in some contaminant that will make other customers sick. I imagine they wouldn't allow it but it can't hurt to try!

Maybe if she says just for her. I can see how it'd be bad to give to others, but if it's just for her, maybe they will.

When I worked fast food we weren't even allowed to take people's containers into the back to throw away (worked the drive through window). I would not get hopes up on them making it with your ingredients, although you can always try.

I'm going to spend my time off re-vamping my blog and kicking it off in January. I'm actually really excited 😀

... the blog I started like a year and a half ago was a huge fail. It will be no longer!!

That GPA cutoff I was talking about for the research program in the rant thread? Not only did I get it, I ended up getting almost 0.1 higher! I am so freaking excited it's not even funny. I don't know how I pulled it off, but I did. And my research mentor was super supportive through the whole thing.

1/8 DVM 😀😀😀

That's awesome! Great job!!!

I'm about to go look at the kitten and maybe volunteer at the shelter while I'm there for a couple hours. 😍

Yay NStarz and DVMdream!

And yes, it is Tim Horton's.
I know vegans who brought soy milk in the car whenever they had to resort to Tim's.
I have not had the greatest service there since they brought out their bagel B.E.L.Ts. Sauce added to a bagel is apparently a foreign concept which causes them to screw up their faces or forget 60% of the time. I cannot imagining asking for an ice cap with no cream or milk without a few blank stares or rude questions from the older women.

I will just stick to tea from now on. Perhaps I will give it a try the next time I take a road trip and want a cold Tim's fix.

I love the holidays. I've had so much time to bake (and I'm freezing half of the doughs so I can make more throughout the semester without having to start all over). So far I've made: no-bake peanut butter and chocolate cookies (about 18 good sized ones), chocolate chip cookies (about 6 dozen small ones with another 5 dozen frozen), funfetti fudge (8x8 pan full), and pumpkin biscuits (about 2 dozen with another 2 dozen or so in the freezer). I think tomorrow is buttermilk biscuits and maybe sugar cookies. It'll be so nice to have homemade frozen things. Like I can just turn on the oven and bake them, and they'll be made from scratch so I don't have to feel super guilty. 🙂

they came through in the final minutes! We're gonna be homeowners and not a burden to my parents!

I'm crying right now from the relief (at least it isn't diarrhea from the excitement👍)

:highfive::clap::soexcited:

That's so awesome, dyachei!

(Your name was totally just changed to "detached" haha)
