My roomie, bf and I just devoured a pan of delicious butternut squash and gingersnap mac and cheese. It was ridiculously good and I'm sad it's gone.
That sounds amazing!
. Lobster mac and cheese is amazing too 😀
Yeah it does. I just googled that to find recipes. Lobster mac and cheese is amazing too 😀

Woohoo! Congrats 👍
Also, welcome to the world of night owls, where 2:30am is an average to early bedtime 🙂
I may not get a lot of kind words for saying this. The last time I shares my views, I was told I would make a horrible vet, that new slaughterhouses were awesome and that Temple Grandin changed everything... but because of a freak chain of events (my father's heart attack, my weight gain, discovering I am somewhat lactose intolerant, seeing a documentary by a good source about the largest pork producer in the country, going to the gym and by befriending vegans), I am making the switch to veganism. Once the animal products are gone out of my house, there will not be any more coming back in.
but My fiancé said I couldn't do it for even a week... Well I proved him wrong
back on topic.....
Do what makes you happy. Just remember that, just as you don't want to be judged for your decision, don't judge others for not making the same one. I have too many vegan friends who constantly judge me for not being vegan. Not saying this is you, but please keep that in mind bc it's entirely obnoxious. And your diet has nothing to do with you being a good veterinarian or not.![]()

Haha, this is a rare occurrence for me, I'm normally asleep by 11:30-midnight lol

Trem, do what makes you happy! if becoming a vegan makes you happy, or is necessary for you, then do ! Don't worry about what everyone thinks.. They will get over it! 😀

👍 I think it's great you can do that. I tried. Didn't work out too well.
One of my good friends eventually couldn't stop talking it last summer. I never said anything bad about her being vegan and she didn't say anything to me either, so it worked out well. But one day, she just told me what a horrible person I am for pretending to love the animals that I then so easily eat. That I would be a horrible vet because I didn't truly love the animals. That I probably sit at home with my dogs, loving on them, while thinking "Aw, you're gonna taste so good when I eat you later." Needless to say that we are not friends anymore.
I don't judge anyone for a decision on their diet like that. But don't judge me either and say all of those things.
I stopped eating pork last year at the start of vet school and only have cage-free or free range eggs. I don't have a problem killing animals for food, only how they are raised to become food. So I'm selective about what I eat/where I buy it. This is morally satisfactory to me. Good luck on the switch, Trem!
But... bacon....?!?!?!?!?! 😱
My rave- TRAIL MIX in my mailbox!! Thanks Coquette😍
🙂 I wanted to do something for my crew, since lord knows, you all make vet school way more fun than it probably should be. I thought it'd be a nice change from the usual chocolate (not that A's almond bark wasn't delicious!).
I eat turkey bacon, though, which I find really delicious. Plus they always cut it to look like bacon so it's all wavy and perfect haha.👍
I don't eat pork either 🙂

I'm surprised Em didn't say that first.![]()

That's what people always say when I tell them I don't eat pork! I must say, I've been around bacon being eaten, and I think it looks/smells...I'm not gonna say gross, but how about "not for me."
Though, my opinion may be colored: my one experience with pork in my entire life was eating breakfast sausage in an airplane meal. Blech. I don't think even the most ravenous pork-lover would have liked those.

Sounds awful!

It sounds like you always not eaten pork. Trust me, it's really hard to turn down once you've had it well prepared haha! The thing about bacon is that everyone likes it differently. My parents like theirs essentially burnt so growing up I was like eh, bacon. But when I cooked it the way that I like(d 🙁) to eat it, it's amazing! Turkey bacon takes it place for me, though.

Spending my day on airplanes and in airports, home in 14 hours!!!!!!!!I would have eaten pork growing up (I didn't go kosher till I was 12), and bacon never smelled good to me. In restaurants, at my house (not that my parents cooked it much), at friends' houses, etc. I always thought it just smelled greasy and smoky, my two least favorite flavors. I have tried turkey bacon, which I thought tasted blech, and vegan 'bacon flavored popcorn' which I was told tasted like bacon, which I also thought tasted blech. I have never liked any smoked food item I have ever had, including smoked salmon (which you'd think I would like, given that a bunch of my family are New York Jews!). (I do know that bacon isn't always smoked, but many pork products are, right?)
The thing I really miss from my non-kosher days is cajun crawfish, cooked popcorn-chicken style, with cream dipping sauce. MMMMMMMM was that stuff good.
Rave: got a new toster oven! One that actually works! That can cook stuff!
I may have found a Boston!!! View attachment 21949
Bacon is usually smoked and cured by "definition" but most pork is not. Unless you're talking BBQ pork... (Also smoked by definition) Mmmmm
