Nice one SOV! Next time I'm on campus I'll be sure to read the whole article!

Thanks everyone!!!

To be honest, I didn't think the paper was such a big deal when I was writing it (the web program was much more important to me), it still feels pretty good to see it be published. I guess I can still be like a little boy!

I guess you are never too old for a little validation, although one of the reviewers initially said that the program was basically a waste of time. 🙁

Today is a GOOD day.
1) Last night I had my second physics exam (final isn't until end of may... stupid academic calendar) and it wasn't too bad. I'm just so happy that I don't have to study physics this weekend.
2) Yesterday was the husband's birthday. I didn't see him all day so we're celebrating this weekend 🙂

3) My cat Shirley DOES NOT HAVE FIP :biglove::biglove:
We're still trying to figure out what's going on with her but I am so, so relieved.

I have a friend in the UK who breeds and shows cats. They had one little guy that they thought had FIP. Tested negative for FIP. They ultimately had to put him down because his kidneys were too damaged later, but they *think* he had some sort of bacterial vasculitis. 🙁

I really hope you find out what your poor kitty has and it's treatable!

That's wonderful news felinelvr! 👍

Hopefully she gets better soon and you get some answers.

Great news at the orthopedic today. No surgery for my foot and I can be out of my cast in 4 weeks. Yay! 😀
And I got a temporary handicap parking sticker. Take THAT vet school parking :meanie:

Also, I have amazing friends helping me get around, driving me places, walking my dogs, grocery shopping, taking me to appts, etc. The day I broke my foot they made schedules and duties between them to help me out... without me even mentioning I'd need any. So grateful to have met such awesome people in vet school :biglove:

This is seriously the funniest thing I have read in awhile. SO is a redditor and he showed me the "Parents of Reddit, what is the creepiest thing your young child has ever said to you?" thread when I asked him what he was laughing at. I then read this one:

"I don't have kids, but once, visiting some friends on a farm, my buddy's youngest girl (5 or 6) at the time, was afraid of the chickens. I tried to explain to her that the chickens weren't there to hurt us but she wasn't having it.

So I'm sitting around the fire pit, looking at one of the chickens a few feet in front of me when I feel hot breath in my ear as she whispers:

"See. He's always watching."

Horrific and hysterical all at once."

This is exactly how I feel about all chickens. Evil dinosaurs.

This is exactly why I 😍 poultry. Closest things we have to predatory dinosaurs in our modern world! 😀

From the same thread:

When my 2.5 year old and her friend were hanging out, the topic of T-Rex and other dinos came up. I asked her friend:
"If you were a T-Rex, what would you do for fun? "
He answered: I'd chase herbivores!
I then asked my daughter this question:
"If you were a T-Rex, what would you eat? "
She got very serious and looked me right in the eyes and said:
"Children. I'd eat children"

When I was working at the zoo last summer my job was to hang out by the lions and tigers and keep an eye on things. Right across from their enclosures were the cassowaries. One day two parents were standing and looking at the cassowaries with their little boy. The parents were busy talking and basically ignored the kid, so neither one of them actually heard what he said . . .

Boy: Mommy! Mommy! I want to get a bird just like this and put it in the back yard! Mommy!
Mother: That's nice, honey.
Boy: Yeah! I'm gonna get the bird and put in a cage just like this but bigger, with a floor and with a roof on top so it can't get away . . . *turns away from parents, clenches fists, and says in a deep evil voice* And starve it to death!

I felt like I should be calling the FBI and telling them there was a tiny psychopath on the loose. 😱

"My son (about 6) asked my mother to lay down on her stomach, then he sat on her butt and started bouncing up and down and proclaimed, "Now we're mating like reptiles!" Thanks Discovery Channel!"

so much cringe

When I was about 3 we had a cat that had still born kittens. I asked my father if we could make crosses for them, which he did. As he was making them I asked:

"aren't those too small?",

Dad: "What do you Mean?"

Me: "aren't we going to nail them to them?"

Dad: (after several moments silence) "we're not going to do that"

Me: "oh"

😱

Thanks MommaFox for killing the last shred of hope I had for humanity.

When my niece was about 3, she started this thing where she would call everyone "Die".

It started with her sitting on my sister's back, she had a dog toy in her hands and had put the toy right in front of her face and was making the toy talk... then she started patting my sister on the head saying: "Die, Die, Die... DIE!!!"

From then on, everyone was "Die"...

Mommafox, thank you for making my week by bringing that reddit to my attention. Hysterical.

Momma fox, thanks for ruining my sleep with creepy children's visions of men with banjos and long beards :lame:

I just realized my thesis is due WEDNESDAY, not Monday. The class meets on Monday and my other thing is due Monday and that is the worst day for it to be due, so I got confused. But now I have time to work on it even though there's a school celebration Saturday and I'm doing a trip basically all of Sunday, so I don't have to kill myself trying to do 3 passes of editing my 50-page manuscript in one day! 🙂

I am so incredibly glad I got accepted/choose to go to UT. My biggest fear on starting clinics was being allowed to take short breaks through the day to take care of mommy stuff, and so far everyone has been super supportive. And most of the techs I have worked with so far have gone out of their way to watch out for me. This place really rocks my socks off, even if week one on clinics has been exhausting. 😀

Yay! I have first rotation off so only 3 more weeks until I have to go back to clinics. I'm dreading leaving my daughter at home. I'm spending as much time with her as I can. This year is going to be tough.

First entropion surgery since vet school today and it looks like it will work. I 😍 eyes

This and a cherry eye correction are among my favorite rare surgeries to watch.

Its not easy, but its doable. Good luck.

Dyachei, would you ever consider going back and doing an ophtho residency? Or is your life direction not conducive to this sort of switch away from GP?

I have thought about this a lot this year. I just can't afford to right now. I would continue to consider it though depending on my husband's job and his growth potential there
