It's finally warm enough to run outside again and I just finished my second run of the "season". Crazy how I was peeling off 3 miles easily almost every day and now I'm struggling with half that  Told my sister I would do a 5K with her when I'm home and I'm going to aim for a 10K in the early fall.

I should probably start studying for my final at 9am tomorrow...oops.

Finals are over!! I'm saying I'm done with my first year since selectives are really just fun pass/fail courses our the next two weeks.

Also my GP is home and doing better each day. I took her to get spayed on Tuesday, hoping to keep her healthy later in life (I'd rather not have her get cystic ovaries if I can help it). Well they couldn't find her repro tract and her bowel perforated. They think that she was either previously spayed as I adopted her at 8 months, or that her repro tract is just super tiny. Anyway while they were looking they noticed ingesta on their gloves. Turns out she had a teeny tiny hole that they patched up. They cleaned her out, but apparently GPs respond typically like horses...not well. Since then I've been giving her her meds and she's been mostly taking them like a champ and she's even cheered up about treat time. Looks like she'll probably be okay.

Yay! I'm glad she seems to be doing well. Did you adopt her from a rescue or something like a humane society?

Every year, on the last day of their rotations, the graduating class at AVC decorates the school. Last year Class of 2012 did a Disney theme which was pretty amazing. But I think 2013 might just have outdone them. I can't even fathom how much work they put into all of this.

It's really amazing how quickly they were able to get him considering on Monday afternoon they had absolutely nothing to go on and were begging the public for information. The cooperation between law enforcement and civilians on this case has been really incredible to see! 😍 Boston 😍

What a weekend ...

My grandma, MIL, mom, & BFF came over and we made and mailed out all of our wedding invitations (my husband and I are legally married but are finally having our wedding this summer!). So phew, invites done and out! What a project!

And I picked up my ring that my husband and I designed together. The center stone is a black diamond he bought for me when he was on deployment in the Middle East 2 years ago. The ring is so special and I absolutely love it!!

I am exhausted. Back to reality and the weekly grind tomorrow 😀

Lately I've been worry about my potential list and considering how realistic my dream of going to Penn is. I love Pennsylvania, I love being in Pittsburgh for undergrad, I've been to Philly before and loved it too. I was actually born at Penn's hospital. I got accepted there for undergrad, but it ended up being more financially responsible to go to Pitt (full tuition scholarship). And I feel like if I end up getting into Penn but also getting into Florida, or one of the other less expensive schools, I'll be stuck with that decision to make again.

But I found out today that if I do get into Penn, my mom (who grew up and lived in Philly until she graduated college) has a friend who is willing to let me live with her and her husband just outside of the city. So at least that is one burden that I know I won't have to think about, and free housing definitely takes away some of the expense 🙂

I wanna see a picture of the ring when it's done! It sounds neat.

👍 That sounds pretty awesome.

As requested, here's a picture. I've been wearing a simple white gold band for so long that this ring feels monstrous and slightly excessive  The black diamond is 2.7 carat and each white diamond is 1/3 carat.

That is really cool!

Thanks!

That is a crazy lookin rock! I dunno that I've ever seen a black diamond. Does it sparkle in the sun? Can you see through it even a little bit?

So if you're ever seen Onyx it looks similar but more sparkly and more opaque in the sun. It's definitely sparkly like a white diamond 🙂

I hurt my knee when I was visiting Scotland 2 weeks ago (same knee that I've previously had 3 surgeries on already) and this morning I finally had an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon this morning. My ACL is NOT torn again (which was my biggest concern)!!! I'm so excited.

There was some laxity in my PCL and some inflammation in my lateral meniscus, but that should get better over the next few weeks with some rest and work restrictions. 🙂 Here's to hoping it's pain-free a month from now so that I don't have to get an MRI!:xf:

I've been thinking of back-up plans.

My plan right now is to go back to school in 2014, retake my expired pre-reqs (general chemistry and an animal science to replace intro bio) and try to improve my other scores that are in the low 80s.

I am going to look into naturopathic medicine. The academic requirements aren't nearly as brutal as vet school although an essay and LORs are required (which AVC does not require). I have no idea how tough or competitive it is but I want to talk to my naturopathic doctor more about it.

It may be a long shot, but at least I am finding things I am interested in that may land me a job. It also depends how well I do when I go back to school. I have a feeling that my health issues didn't let me live up to my full potential.

I was thinking of taking nutrition courses, but I work with a woman who has a BSc in Nutrition. She had to take a water chemistry course at the community college to get a job. Vet tech would land me a job but a pitiful salary. A masters in Biology wouldn't get me very far either.

It's really crappy that we live in a society where it can be close to impossible to do what we love because there are no jobs or because we cannot afford it.

Oh well. I am going to keep looking 😀

Dana's bloodwork came back normal yesterday. 😀 WBC is back to normal, platelets too .

Thanks y'all! 😀

That vet bill taught me a valuable lesson about the state of my savings account.

Oh! And I LOVE google's logo for earth day.

I got my stuff for graduation! I'm so excited to be done with this semester!

Thought today was going to be an absolutely horrible day. We were planning on doing exploratory surgery on our female golden lion tamarin. She's had a growing abdominal mass for the past few months that we originally thought was a growing fetus, but sadly not the case. We had been trying to get an U/S done, but our usual radiologist has been out of town/not responding to us and no one else wanted to do it. Finally decided to just open her up because it was taking up nearly her whole abdomen and either it was going to be resectable or she needed to go to tiny primate heaven. Fully was expecting to euth her today which would have been horribly sad because she and her mate are super super bonded. If we crate them they will hold hand through the bars. But then we did surgery and it was excellent!

Guess what this is!

And this is her little outfit to (hopefully) keep her from messing with her incision too much.

Google has an archive of all the google doodles. I'm not sure what the url is but you can google it.

My amazing husband got me a very early birthday present, a new camera to capture our adventures ! He has been so amazingly supportive through everything and still surprises me 😍

It's pretty weird to think that 3 years ago I didn't know what glaucoma was and today I did an enucleation. There was about 50% of me thinking serious doctor thoughts about how to do the procedure and 50% of me being like OMG IT'S THE EYE! IT'S HUGE AND IT'S OUT OF THE CAT AND LOOKING AT ME!!!

I can handle anything but eyeballs.

🤣

Eyes really bothered me until one of my dogs started requiring eye drops, eye ointment and regular optho appts after a trauma injury to her eye. Still a bit squeamish, but definitely improved. 👍

1) My boyfriend got a huge scholarship to attend his first choice medical school. So proud of him! I bought him his first stethoscope for his birthday🙂
2) My hamster is doing so well these days. He loves to run around in his hamster ball and he is running on his wheel again. He is also eating his Oxbow food (finally). I think he is all around healthier and it really shows. He just seems happier lately.
3) First year will be over next Friday😀
4) Going on a family vacation, which includes my boyfriend, to the Dominican Republic in 4 weeks. We are staying at an all inclusive resort- unlimited alcohol:naughty: and our room has a hot tub in it🙂...

Bleh. Definitely one of my least favorite classes so far. The ophthomologist gives me grief about not taking his rotation every time I see him, but I just. cant. do. it. Could not handle three weeks of gross eye cases all day every day.

I have to say, eyes TOTALLY squigged me out until I started working at a vet ophthalmologist office. Now I think they are super cool. There are so many different things that get messed up, tons of procedures and surgery. It's a really nice variety. Plus you totally get desensitized to the disgustingness that is eyeballs.

😍 Sounds like the perfect end to a good year!

I think eyes are super cool. 😍 I helped with an equine focus on optho course and it is so neat what can be done with them.

My rave: I made a lentil/chickpea dish that seriously looks like regurgitated dog food. No joke - chickpeas are the big chunks of food, lentils the goopy small chunks. But even though it looks horrible, I've been devouring it every meal because it is freaking DELICIOUS.

Went on a 15 mi trail ride this afternoon the best trail horse ever. He is seriously an ATV - he doesn't care what's in front of him, if you point him at it, he goes. Up cliffs, down embankments, up to his belly in mud, through bushes, over HUGE downed trees, up and down rocky hills. Talk about the little horse that could! Saw lots of deer, lots of armadillos, about 8 million rabbits, and a llama (random, I know. It was in someones yard that backs up to the trail!). Such a wonderful, relaxing afternoon

I have a horse that FREAKS :scared: every time he sees a llama so that is a big deal!
