The veterinarian that works at my shelter doesn't like to do surgeries other than spay/neuter. I won't go into it further but because of that we have to send animals to specialists or contact vets (usually right out of school) who want to practice. Or just euthanize them due to him simply not wanting to do it. Its kindof ridiculous but whatever.

We never did anything like that in PP either. Most exciting thing was the occasional exploratory.

When we get good new vets who want to try things (cherry eye repair or amputations) we milk them for it and I go in to watch. Orthopedic surgery is awesome too.

I GOT AN A/A+ ON MY THESIS DRAFT!

Of course, I'm so neurotic I'm worried I've messed it up with the edits I've made/am going to make since this version, but...I would have been thrilled with an A-, and I did better than that!

Take that, thesis prof.

I didn't have the opportunity to do a cherry eye yet. I would love to. But whenever we have one I get told we don't do them at our hospital - and I don't want to experiment on someone's pet

I think the shelter is a great opportunity for students and vets to "experiment". The animal gets a chance when it would normally be PTS, and if something goes wrong there is not an owner to be responsible to. Terrible, but true.

On foal watch till 4am 😍

Just signed up for a 10K run through the historic district of Cape Town during my first weekend in South Africa... that was either a good or bad idea, haven't decided yet, haha. 😕 😀

As my runner friend once said, "If you can do a 5K, you can do a 10K. At that point it's just mental." I'm hoping for mental fortitude come fall...

They had a 5k option, I just didn't want to miss out on the historic sites the longer routes pass... jealous of the half marathon people, but I'm not anywhere near that level, yet. I run 5ks pretty regularly but haven't really done over 5 miles before, have to ramp that up a little bit over the next couple weeks I guess! Super excited. 😀

Good luck! What better place for your first 10K than South Africa 😍

Had my first Krav Maga class tonight. I'm exhausted, pulled something in my shoulder, and I'm definitely going to be sore tomorrow. But it was super fun and I can't wait to go back! 😀

Anyone ever seen the episode of The League with Krav Maga. Groin, elbow, groin, elbow! Anyone?

Just knocked $20/month off my phone plan!!!! 😀 Getting the same amount of features/mins/data as before plus now get nationwide. 😀

Though I have to pay $166 to break my data agreement. 👎 But it will be worth it after 9 months.

It definitely pays to check the current plans with your carrier. I swear they just hope you don't notice.

Just bought myself a MacBook! 😍 :soexcited:

I bought mine maybe a month ago now and love it. I had PCs before and only got this because I spilled water/gatorade on my laptop back in January and Sony deemed my computer "unfixable." So, I took the insurance money and bought this baby cause I needed a computer quickly. I do still use an Android phone and tablet, so I'm not making the full switch.

i ran out of conditioner last week (although i swear i have another bottle stashed somewhere...) so i bought something cheap at the grocery store this weekend. i could have gone with the brand i normally used, but that would have been like $6 USD for a tiny bottle of conditioner (more than double what i pay at home) instead i bought a cheapo brand to get me through (also doubling as shaving cream as that stuff is too expensive for my taste here too). it smells like apples. i smell like sweet apples. its awesome 😍

All of my school stuff (laptop included) was stolen out if my car at the emergency clinic that I shadow/volunteer at last quarter. It sucked, but I guess this is a silver lining! I have an iPhone, so this will satisfy my unnatural need to have things match, too!

Can you have a "toiletry/cosmetic/whatever care package" sent your way? Rather than spend so much?

hehe it would cost an unbelievably ridiculous amount of money to ship it here, and then i'd get to pay taxes on the items. definitely not worth it! (oh and it might not get here till i leave for home haha things move so slow).

normally i shove 2 of each in my suitcase every term. like i said, i'm pretty sure i have another one around here but a brief search in the places it should be yielded nothing. so apples it is

Last exam for my masters starts at 2pm...

It is CRAZY to think that I will have three degrees from the University of Florida by the time I graduate from vet school..

I just turned in my thesis! I still have to do the entirety of the presentation for it (plus two finals), but I don't need to worry about that too much. And my thesis paper is DONE!

Also, the weather is really really nice and it's supposed to stay that way all week. 😀

Ha! I suppose there is that shipping thing. Well, there are worse things than smelling like apples!

Passed all my classes! Officially a 4th year!

doesn't it feel great?

My rave? I had the day off today. I took the opportunity to go bowling, go for a run (well, mostly walking/jogging but I'm getting there), and go swimming. I feel great about actually doing something with my day off.

I am walking on cloud 9 over here!

Why you ask?

Because I got my first ever A on a vet school anatomy test! And on the final no less!!!

I'm starting to understand "once you go Mac, you don't go back!" I bet you'll love it!

Very true! I have one now (the old Macbook white one) and it is going on 6 years old. Very slow and almost no memory left. So I definitely need to upgrade for vet school 🙂

I don't know if this should be a rant or a rave. I'm feeling so much anxiety over my exams tomorrow...:scared: But at the same time I'm feeling elated, knowing that in less than 24 hours I'll be free!!! Free for the summer! Its like the feeling you get before going to a theme park or doing something incredibly exciting...:soexcited:

I love fourth year so far. (Disclaimer: Only two days in. I'm sure this feeling will change)
I am more tired than I remember being in a longgg time, and my knees and feet are killing me from doing so much walking and foal-wrangling, but I am seriously having an awesome time. The 12+ hour days are flying by. I got to palpate mares today, design treatment plans, design broodmare management protocols, and give more IV injections than I've given in the past three years. And the clinician and resident keep quizzing us and I feel like I know more than I expected (A nice surprise!). And when I have given dumb answers, no one laughs or gets cranky. Tomorrow, I get to take a road trip to play with dairy cattle 😍 I don't even mind too much that I have to be at the school by 5:30 am

I'm so jealous but excited that I'll be in your shoes in 3 years!!

Cowgirl, I was with you right up until the "5:30" part. Generally, if I see two 5:30s in the same day, something's gone wrong.

I wish...that is my everyday. Including most weekends.

On another note, clinics are kicking my butt hard core, and I make an idiot of myself on a daily basis. I'm still in shock. But I survived my first solo patient from receiving to discharge. 🙂
