Same here! And we start clinics on Monday!!! 😱😀

Congrats! I'm hoping I can say the same thing at the end of this week.

You can do it Lissa!

I wanna know your clinics schedule, so I can tag along because at this point, I'm unemployed.

All I can remember is that I start in orthopedic sx for three weeks (although one week will be in PT/Rehab).

Oh, and don't worry about being unemployed, you will spend half of your summer scouring the surrounding area for toxic plants anyway. Let me know when they send out the assignment, and acceptable plant list to you all. I have a few of them in my yard that I would be happy to get for you.

I concur! 👍
I'll also be heading to Nashville for a night or two at the end of this summer, so there are a few opportunities! 😀

You will get to meet Mojo! He goes to PT 2-3 times a week!

And thanks, I've been dreading that assignment.

I FINALLY HAVE A RAVE! 😀

Dana just got home and she is just wonderful. Chased the dot (laser pointer) around the house and even had a good round of bitey face with her brother. She demolished a bowl of food and got some cream cheese with her PM meds.

I am just......ugh. Crying tears of joy. 😀

I hope she holds good throughout the night. :xf: We are redoing bloodwork tomorrow am to see if WBC has gone down. If so then we can just continue antibiotics. If not we will start her on steroids.

ahhhhh! almost $2000 later and I think we are almost out of the woods.

We survived our first week!

First year is almost over!!!!

I may get to volunteer with a therapeutic riding center this summer. Really excited about that. Combined with shelter volunteering, emergency shadowing, and research, this summer is turning out pretty well 🙂

Seriously! That is probably one of the prettiest babies I have ever seen!

She's one of the prettiest GIRL babies I've ever seen. But right now I'm kind of biased in the boy baby arena. I miss that cute squishy baby stage. 😍

Going to Oregon this weekend! My (almost?) bf is from Portland and he is going home to pick up a truck so he invited some friends to make the trip with him. I'm a little nervous about meeting his family, but I'm looking forward to a mini vacation in one of my favorite places! We may even go to the beach on Saturday! hopefully it all works out because I am looking forward to this! 😀

In the past ten days I've helped with procedures on a lion and a tiger. It has been amazing! Our exotics department is very welcoming to students, even first years!

Dana is doing great. =) I am so happy to have her back. The money doesn't even matter.

I was just approved to start studying wildlife rehabilitation courses to become an official wildlife hotline operator! 😀 I'm super excited!!!

I just got the news that I'll be spending the summer doing research at the school of medicine at Emory University.

Couldn't possibly be more excited! I was planning to take summer classes so it'll bump my graduation to May instead of December but I think it'll definitely be worth it.

Only bad part is it means I'll have to miss baby season at the wildlife center this year. Training as many folks as I can before I leave.

Any advice about stuff to do around the area? I imagine I'll have some time to explore and I'd hate to just sit in the dorm all the time.

The zoo is small but fun. The aquarium is great. There are a ton of good restaurants in the area. World of coke is only meh. Decatur can be pretty fun but it all depends on what you like to do. You can PM me with specific questions and I may be more help.

Thanks, I'll definitely do that if I come up with some specific ones.

I'm forcibly vegan due to a lot of food allergies, so I don't tend to go to restaurants much, but there seem to be a lot more flexible options in that regard there than there are where I am right now.

There are vegan places but I don't know them well. There is a farmers market in dekalb that is indoor and amazing and about 10 minutes from campus

Yeah I've read about it before and I'm beyond excited. I love to cook and haven't had access to a lot of the same type/quality of producer since I left Seattle. Hopefully the dorm they house me in will have good kitchens.

Pm me with the dorm name and I may be able to help figure that out.

They aisles upon aisles of fresh produce. They also have a food court with different types of ethnic foods and you pay by weight. And the bakery is good, too. I miss that market.

They haven't told me yet, so we shall see. I'm supposed to start mid-late May.

I miss fresh spices and good honest rice the most. A good authentic curry smells like home and instantly erases stress. Which is maybe a little weird to some folks because I'm originally Canadian and so pale I reflect light, but eh, we have an odd mixed family with a bit of everything.

I really love Little Five Points and Virginia Highlands areas. They have a lot of cool stuff - shops, music venues, etc.

Chattanooga isn't too far, and they have a much better aquarium, minus the whale sharks that ATL has.

There are lots of yummy food places and plenty of neat bars/ places to hang out. You shouldn't get too bored.

I just got this New Investigator in Health Award. Some of the money is going to go to a conference this summer, the rest will cover about 3 months of living expenses when I go back to vet school in the fall and lose my current stipend. Really, REALLY excited!

I 😍 this externship. And I'm finally starting to feel like it is all coming together. Still have a few idiot/student brain farts during the day, but all the doctors here are so great, and really don't seem to mind! (Or they are just hiding it really well lol) .

It's crazy to think how close I am to my internship year now!

Finals are over!! I'm saying I'm done with my first year since selectives are really just fun pass/fail courses our the next two weeks.

Also my GP is home and doing better each day. I took her to get spayed on Tuesday, hoping to keep her healthy later in life (I'd rather not have her get cystic ovaries if I can help it). Well they couldn't find her repro tract and her bowel perforated. They think that she was either previously spayed as I adopted her at 8 months, or that her repro tract is just super tiny. Anyway while they were looking they noticed ingesta on their gloves. Turns out she had a teeny tiny hole that they patched up. They cleaned her out, but apparently GPs respond typically like horses...not well. Since then I've been giving her her meds and she's been mostly taking them like a champ and she's even cheered up about treat time. Looks like she'll probably be okay.
