I was about to say....300 for one week of one class maybe.....
They are awesome though. I wish it was feasible.
Yeah. I assume they won't be useful forever, but for now they are! 🙂

The notes for our next exam are 710 pages long. That does not include the required reading from Fossum's surgery or the required reading from the Diagnostic Imaging book. Nor does that include needing to practice suturing techniques and gloving techniques for our OSCE exam. It is not feasible any longer to re-write notes/condense into flashcards. I feel like if I read all of the notes for an exam, I have accomplished a small miracle.
For your suturing....what are you using for practice material? My OSCE is on Halloween, so I should probably start practicing....there's fake skin in the practice lab and the profs said we could just go buy meat from the grocery store (I guess tongue is a good one?). Just curious what you were recommended. 🙂

We have not actually started suturing yet, my suturing lab isn't until the 1st of November (if I remember correctly). Our OSCE is in December. I have heard from the year above me that banana peel works really well. I also purchased a bunch of expired suture material from amazon, so that should arrive soonish so that I can actually practice once we have learned how. 🙂
i've heard pigs feet. there are a variety of relatively cheap simulation materials out there and theres always the homemade options with towels and such

So this is kinda stupid, but really annoying. Up until this year the school hasn't policed the trademark on the CVM logo, so all the clubs made generic vet school merchandise and sold it for their fundraisers. Starting next semester all logos are going to be trademark policed. We're not sure how it's going to work yet, but basically no longer can a club sell a polo that says Foxy's CVM. Instead it has to more prominently feature the club. Which will greatly decrease the amount of merchandise each club will sell (because used to everyone would buy stuff, now only club members will). This will serve to make stuff more expensive and means that I can no longer still get cool Foxy CVM stuff. So, in the past 6 weeks I've spent way too much money getting the vet school merchandise I want (a fleece, a few polos, a vest, and a few t-shirts). Whereas in previous years you could always buy it the next year, if our class wants anything we have to buy it this semester. Most of these things are things that I think are a good idea to spend the money on, I just wish I could have slowly amassed a collection rather than buying it all at once. Alas.
Rant?
I wish our clubs sold more stuff. Love school wear!

Cow tongue is what I learned on.
Escalla, I think anything but actual animal tissue is crap. It's -so- different - animal tissue is a lot easier to suture! So I'd buy meat or try the banana peel 👍

But after the mental destruction that was ophtho/neuro yesterday, I needed the confidence boost.I got my first and probably last 100% of my vet school career, on a 25 question rabbit quiz. Too bad the course isn't really worth anything. But after the mental destruction that was ophtho/neuro yesterday, I needed the confidence boost.
Got an awesome care package from my aunt today, which included a tie-dye "Peace, Love, and Cows" t-shirt. Also included a copy of "Fleming's Vest-Pocket Veterinary Adviser" published in 1904. I've been flipping through it, and some of the treatments they recommended back then are hilarious. For example, the recommended treatment for milk fever was to use a bicycle pump or similar apparatus to pump the udder full of as much air as possible. 😱
The thought was that increasing the pressure in the mammary gland would decrease milk production, and therefore decrease the severity of the milk fever (hypocalcemia)

definitely beats my original plan of drinking a bottle of wine alone with my anatomy textbook.

This past summer one of the clinics I work at was remodeled, and while moving stuff I found a similarly aged veterinary book....totally made me laugh. I wish I had kept it. The diet recommendations were the best. Apparently your dog needs 5 meals a day with bread, raw eggs and meat, and an apple. 😀
This seems like a pretty good plan to me! Turkey is better though.
Actually, I'd avoid Thanksgiving if I could. But I have no excuses with living in the same city....I could do with more study time and less family drama. The leftovers are so good though....it's a constant internal struggle.![]()
I've been pretty bummed that I'm going to miss American Thanksgiving for the next four years. This year will be the first time in my life that I haven't spent it with family. So I'm happy to have a nice Thanksgiving dinner, even if it's a month early and 600 miles away from home. I'll just bring the bottle of wine along with me!
I know what you mean! I was super bummed about not being able to go home for Thanksgiving last year, it was probably my most homesick week. Luckily, one of my Canadian friends also invited me to their thanksgiving dinner celebration, and I hosted my own a few weeks later with the help of one or two American friends. So much fun! Would obviously have chosen family over it, but it was a close second. Hope you enjoy your celebrations this year!
Also just for my daily rave, it's my birthday! Got surprised by a really thoughtful gift from my flatmate (wasn't expecting anything since I've only been living with her for two weeks), and a friend I interned with at a sanctuary in Florida 2 and a half years ago is coming into London for the weekend! Haven't seen her since the internship, so this should be good fun. Looking forward to pub celebrations tonight and tomorrow! 😀

My friend just a couple of days ago bought me a book from an antique shop written by a veterinarian in 1916 on sheep diseases and predation. It says that all coyotes should be eradicated because they have no beneficial role in nature and that bears are NOT predatory animals, don't really eat meat and just have a bad reputationlol! I found one like that for cats in a used book store! If I remember correctly, they recommended a slice of bread soaked in milk for breakfast, or scrambled eggs and buttered bread. And milk should be given at least three times a day for adult cats. I ended up taking the book because I was afraid Joe Q. Public would pick it up and think that's actually an acceptable diet. 😱

Tomorrow is my veggie-versary (it is also Canadian thanksgiving). I have gone 10 years without eating meat 😀
I think I've done a pretty good job a disproving some of the myths I have encountered: vegetarians are sickly, are protein deficient, they have to combine certain amino acids at every meal or they won't get enough protein, that they need meat, dairy and eggs to live and that they cannot build muscle or succeed in the gym.
I'm proud of my accomplishments. I am thankful that a lot of people have supported me along the way (I am also thankful that I had the courage to tell the losers to screw off). I am thankful that most people want to see me succeed in the veterinary world. Despite my views, I still want to be involved with animal health care and wellness. It is what makes me happy.
Hopefully I'll be back in university this time next year, alert and clear minded.

I love Catfish!! It' my guilty pleasure.
When I first read this I thought it said "I love Canadians!" And I was like "omg! I love them too!"
